When hungry and thirsty in Columbia, Mo., The Dash recommends the mini cheeseburgers at Booches (39), an old-school, no-frills pool hall that's been there since Norm Stewart had hair. For drinks, head to Willie's (40), which shares space with The Field House to offer everything an overly enthusiastic (and occasionally over-served) football fan could want.

I've never minded Willie's...
…but it’s never been my #1 favorite spot. I loved Widman’s before it shut down (RIP)…have always loved Flat Branch…was also a fan of Big 12 on Nifong, simply because it was within walking distance of my apartment my last year in school…

Friggin Widman's....RIP indeed
Needless to say, had things been different, THAT would have been the official bar of Rock M Nation

Fieldhouse? Really?
Forde must either be into 15 year old girls, or that place has changed a lot since I was at MU. I think I went to Fieldhouse once, and it reminded me of By George’s with a 2-story dance floor.
Willie’s, I can take it or leave it. I was a fan of McNally’s right after it opened, as I was friends with several of the waitresses (and dated one for a while), but it got WAY too busy. Worked at the B12 on Nifong for about a week in the kitchen.
I juggle one handed, do some magic tricks and do the best imitation of myself.

Ah, McMinors....
I was a regular patron of McNally’s (along with several friends) from the time I could legally drink (one of the bouncers was a good friend of my roomie and long-time friend). Our favorite nights to go were Mondays with dollar pints of Killian’s.
Pretty sure they still have dollar Killian's
Went there one night with a friend who spent $23 on beer. He didn’t feel so great the next day.

I had many nights where I ended up drinking
Dollar double-Capn & Coke’s, and that was including my tip. That was a great semester (well, not for my grades)

Now George's was one interesting place
I used to get SENT there by the AD to make sure the kids were not getting into too much trouble. Seen many of them…well…not get caught :-)
Cannot believe no one has opined about the old Vu….dry bar baby…those were the days.

I recall...
One driving past George’s round closing time, and the cops were leading out a string of underaged girls, tied together with handcuffs…and some of this chicks had class at hickman the next morning.
Widman’s was the great when I moved to CoMo. Sad day when most of the staff walked out. Best beer selection in town.

plus...
…that’s where my roommate and I discovered Ouzo, which was quite the debacle of a night. I just liked the atmosphere—you had your pool and games in the back, but it was dark and relatively quiet (compared to Willie’s/Harpo’s, anyway) up front…could actually carry on a conversation…

Booche's
Forde is 100 percent correct about Booche’s. The Western is off the chains. Remember, No Sniveling!
Willie’s is all right, but Shiloh always had the most talent, in my opinion. You can get your booze anywhere, but having the proper perspective is the most important.
For simply getting piss drunk, there’s no better place on earth than the Black and Gold!
Was once caught putting at night ... with the 15-year old daughter of the dean
The Beef just shed a tear or two. Pretty sure he’s had a few interesting experiences at B&G.

Oh...B+G....
Never a better time to go than with the football team after Spring Practice finished. Watched Mike Morris try to form tackle a light pole…damn near did it too.

Speaking of RIP…at least Johnny’s didn’t close down when I was still living by there.

The beanery closed down?
damn, I used to drink there when I lived on that end of Columbia, right after I got out of the crotch.
Spent a lot of time there when I worked for the AD
Johnny was always very good to any of us who ended up in there after working an event. Played many a game of Golden Tee in the back room, and we did Sunday night karaoke for awhile one summer.

Willie's is...
The worst joint I’ve ever been in, and I cut my teeth in the meet-markets of Iowa City.
Booche’s was the first place I went to when I interviewed for Grad School at Mizzou…asked for a job that night (got shot down).
Best place to get a beer was Skip’s prior to 2004. Shuffleboard and classic tunes on the jukebox.

Willie's has its moments
I actually used to spend a little bit of time in there with Achmed during the summers. When kids are gone, the beer is good, the food is good and the patio is lovely. Not a big pool guy, but never minded that place when it was slower. Wont touch it on a weekend, but never minded it other times.

Meanwhile, from those of us who know that it's "20 items or fewer":
When hungry and thirsty in Columbia, Mo., The Dash recommends the mini cheeseburgers at Booches.
What does The Dash recommend when he’s not hungry and thirsty in Columbia, Mo.?
Pat Forde’s a professional writer; he ought to have heard of dangling modifiers and how to avoid them. Could someone please get the Edit for Spelling and Punctuation Network a copy of Strunk & White?
Go 'Dawgs!
when you get high enough...
…on the journalistic totem pole, dangling modifiers and general poor spelling/punctuation = style.

I'm not sure a bunch of alumni will know this place, but the locals will
There used to be a drive in, about a block north of the Loop, across from Parkade. Kind of on the edge of the shady neighborhoods….little white wood building that served some damn good BBQ.
RE:Drive in
I’m pretty sure it was called Mugs Up.
