In football, the benefit of enrolling early is Spring Practice
The player wouldn’t play any earlier (unless Spring Practice convinces the coaches that he doesn’t need to RS, obviously).
Please educate me about baseball…
From looking at SimmonsField, it appears that Garrison McLagan will be eligible to play as soon as he’s enrolled, so:
What is the benefit of enrolling early? I see a benefit to the TEAM, as it’s an extra arm that is usable, but what’s the benefit to him? Is there a red-shirt in baseball? If so, is he expected to red-shirt this year so he essentially gets an extra semester of practice before he ever plays?

Man, it's weird to think
When I played Morton HS’ baseball team my freshman year of high school, Ryan Crowley was in seventh grade.
Man, I’m getting old.
And usually, when a player joins a school early, the program has identified the players as possibly having an impact that year or the coach, player, and family thinks it would be more beneficial for the player to play college ball instead of high school ball that year.

When is the last time you invited me?
just because I show up occasionally doesn’t mean I was invited.
Plus, you wouldn’t remove the invite from my wife (who is even older than you).

Because a HS Senior is 2 years younger than you?
When I was a freshman in High School, someone who got their driver’s license today wasn’t even born yet.
