Forde: Pinkel gets extension, raise

Missouri and its football coach, Gary Pinkel, have agreed in principle to a lucrative contract extension that will make him one of the highest-paid coaches in the country, according to sources.

"Basically, he'll be able to end his career at Missouri," a source close to the situation said.

The length of the deal is not known, but the extension will include a sizable raise for an annual salary of approximately $2.5 million.

I never was particularly worried about the Pinkel-to-Washington rumors, and this deal will kill those pretty quickly. I don't have anything else to say, I just wanted to make my debut on front page Friday, though.

One thing here.

Offensive coordinator Dave Christensen is a candidate at New Mexico, and defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus also could be courted by other schools.

I don’t think Eberflus has the clout to go anywhere big right now, but I hadn’t thought of Christensen to UNM. I had Christensen pegged for the UWash job, which would then lead to my fantasy of Mizzou getting Todd Dodge to be offensive coordinator.

Oh, and what a fantasy it is.

I doubt he'd get dumped after just two years...

…but they’ve sucked and gotten into a steroids scandal, so…yeah…he might be available after all…

Not a huge surprise

either that it was done quickly and quietly or that he’s pretty much set to be here as long as he wants.

Good for him, good for Alden and great for our Program. His success and the growth (not only of the program, but also of him) that has been shown the last 4 years has been phenomenal. While getting Chase Daniel was the most important piece of the puzzle, the program as a whole is MUCH stronger than it was, and there is no reason to think that the improvement will continue.

Improvement aside, he’s called for higher standards of behavior and academics from our players, which is something that I’m VERY proud to be associated with.

Just shows you cannot please everyone all the time

I have seen comments saying that people would have prefered to keep him here this year, then give him the raise next season, and that also the raise is too much money…
