We should hurry up
and schedule Auburn sometime in the near future. That would be a good resume booster and a great pre-conference gimmes
He was their D-coord
for a while at the beginning of the decade, and they were pretty good under him. I’m surprised at the hire, but I can see their logic.
It's a funny name.
They better be really sure he's the guy, though...
…because he really hasn’t proven anything in two years at ISU…

Label this under the "WTF?" section
Auburn is ready to move in a new direction – and judging by the recent hiring, apparently they want to head to the SEC basement. Move over, Mississippi State, you have some competition.
More wins in 2009 – Gene Chizik or Larry Eustachy? Eh, think I’ll go with Chizik.

Auburn's DC when they went 13-0
and Texas’ when they won the BCS with Vince Young. The guy is clearly has the rep of being a great DC, but I don’t see what they saw from his time at ISU that makes them think he’d be a good Head Coach. Granted, he had quite a job ahead of him in Ames. Can’t say I blame him for taking this opportunity.

You're speechless?
….
You tell me when we hired Gene two years ago, that if he’d leave for Auburn two years later, he was 19-5, not 5-19.
While I am one that believes that Iowa State COULD be
a regular contender for the North title with the right coach, Chizik had a long way to go. I am very surprised that Auburn would do this (though, the article posted on your site certainly implies that Auburn supporters are, too). I can see them taking a flier on him when he was still a coordinator at Texas, but I would have thought that he’d have been judged on his most recent job.
It’s certainly not an overstatement to say that he got an “incomplete” grade at ISU. Best of luck in your new search, here’s hoping that it doesn’t take too long to recover.

Brings a tear to my eye…especially since I despise the Cowboys (the world is divided into two camps – those who like the Cowboys, and those who know better).

Wow...
I copied the wrong link. I’d been sending the Werder link to a friend and meant to link to this bit of excellence from CC:

I just spent 5 minutes...

I like that pick a lot more...
…I still don’t know if Gill can recruit, but his saltiness makes Chizik’s saltiness look…unsalty.

maybe they do...
Ames is fuming about this. I would expect them to pull a WVU and demand a cash payout by chizik to the school.
However, this really isn’t surprising…Auburn has done some utterly classless things concerning their head football coach…just more of the same.
