I say you buy some ad time on a few Columbia TV stations...
That’d make a far better ad than, say, Green Mobile.
Chicago White Sox Examiner — Your what hurts?
not a bad idea...
we bought an ad back in the day…30 second ad during the 1st commercial break of Springer…cost us 65 bucks…we made our own ad…a mumbling hippo…it was glorious…wish I had that tape still…

I don't know why...
… but that’s one of the more unintentionally hilarious things I’ve read in awhile.
You have way too many stories, Beef. Or, conversely, I have way too few.

It was on the Fox affiliate right as it started...
the ad ran M-F for a week during the summer…it was…hmm…1998 I believe. The ad was a still shot of a hippo, with the word “hippopatamus” (sp) under it…and someone mumbling behind it unintelligbly. That lasted for 20 seconds…then the last 10 seconds were the credits (which we had to ad because of truth in advertising laws). I believe I was either choreographer or a Young Henry Kissinger (since all I had done was given 5 bucks for it.) There were 14 people in the credits…13 who paid 5 bucks and the camera man from the TV station who filmed the hippo and put it together.

What was this hippo selling?

Ahh the Hippo
Beef (this is truncated from Beefcake, as we knew him back then), myself, and 11 other guys just wanted to create the strangest commercial to ever be aired. I do have the tape of the Hippo and I am pretty sure I can digitize it and put it up on this site if allowed. As far as what we were selling… not a damn thing.
This all came out of Dave Thomas Sunday… which is another sordid tale on its own. It was the summer of 1999 and perhaps the best time of my life
Oh I guarantee...
…that if it ends up on YouTube (or wherever), it will end up on Rock M Nation.

Thrust nunchuk upward!
Ah...Dave Thomas Sunday...that story still has legs after all these years
Especially my ending up on the front page of the Missourian with a huge beer in my hand just in time for my first ever meeting with Mike Alden
and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get that video up if you can :-)

Nothing...there was not an audible word in the 30 second spot
It was just a still shot of a hippo…

I like it, yet I'm slightly disappointed in the end.
