No. 12 Missouri upsets No. 5 Oklahoma in Kansas City at the Big 12 Championship tournament, 70-64 in overtime.
Details and analysis to follow.
How Mizzou stayed in this one early, I'm not sure I'll ever know. Alyssa Hollins and Jessra Johnson came out early and were awful from the field, with each sitting 3-for-16 from the field with 07:10 remaining in the second half. Amanda Hanneman drilled a 3 with 0:21 left to tie the game and proceeded to steal the ball from All-World center Courtney Paris to force OT.
In overtime, the Tigers did something well that has absolutely HAUNTED them all year: free throws. Paris opened the extra period with a jumper for OU to take the lead, but Hollins and the Tigers were in control from there on out, taking the lead for good and hitting 10 of 14 free throws to keep the Sooners at a distance.
The tournament win could do wonders for coach Cindy Stein, who has been under constant criticism this year despite her extremely young team. Wednesday, the Tigers face No. 4 Texas A&M. In their last meeting, the Aggies defeated the Tigers 62-43 in College Station.
