Spring Game Live Thread

I'm having some graphical issues, so this will be as basic as it gets. If you're at home watching on ESPNU at 1:00, feel free to use this thread for your observations and statements.

I think

it is time to investigate a new scoring system for these Spring Games.  Ridiculous..

What I saw...

looked ok...when Daniel was going against the number 2 defense, we could do no wrong...but the #2 O-line was shaky at best...Patton didn't look like he had a lot of time.
(Also, I see Patton holding on Dental school for a while.  He's got all the "intangibles" that scouts talk about sans playing time.  He can make the show somewhere.  Mizzou could do some real damage in the '09 draft.)

I'm the guy that keeps Mr. Death in his pocket.

Quick thoughts
  • I was impressed with Dom Grooms today. He looks very fluid and very agile. There's no mistaking him for Daniel in the accuracy department, but I really think Gabbert will have to fight a far more uphill battle than anticipated.
  • Patton seemed to lack some zip on his passes. Not sure if it's because he threw a lot of drags and slants, but the velocity seemed to be lacking a tad.
  • I honestly believe the Jackson/Washington/Moore trio may be more consistent and effective than pre-Cotton Bowl Temple.
  • Snaps seem to be an area of some concern with Barnes. There was a lot of reaching from the QBs.
  • Jeff Wolfert? Good god. And kickoffs seem to be 4-5 yards better than last year, forgetting that one, miserable, unforgettable kick.
  • I can't believe Weatherspoon is hurt. He was all over the place - hitting hard and flying to the ball. Plus, he seems to be the impromptu leader on D. On the sidelines, everyone gravitates towards him. He and Baston seem to be the "emotion" guys on the sidelines.
  • The cornerback position is solid: Gettis, Bridges, and Hobson look like quite a trio. However, safety is of some concern to me. I'm still not sure if I trust Justin Garrett.
  • Overall, I still don't feel any better about the punting situation.
