Keep an eye out also for Jared Cosart
Mr. Cosart is a pitcher out TX who is on record as saying that he will come to Mizzou in the fall is he is not selected in the top 3 rounds of the draft today.

I'll keep an eye on that...
...three days from now, when the first round ends.

Eh...5 minutes per pick...they are halfway through right now
They are doing alright…I mean…no one picks before their 5 is up…but it is pretty straight at 5 minutes.

Through 4 rounds, and Cosart has not been called
Tim Mehlville of Holt HS, at one time thought to be a sure-fire 1st rounder ended up going in the early 4th round to the KC Royals.

I was surprised...
Alonso went so high and Smoak fell to Texas at 11. Apparently, Cincinnati went with the top hitter despite the fact that they already have Joey Votto at 1B. I thought for sure the Reds were going to steal Gordon Beckham or Crow at 7.
Smoak may have been the best 1B in the draft—which is why I was shocked KC went with the high school kid. I guess they’re looking at long-term upside and will develop him with Moustakos, but you have to wonder if they could have made a better pick there (Buster Posey, anyone? I guess that $12 million price tag scared a lot of teams off).
I can’t say I know a whole lot about Washington’s farm system, but I’d have to assume that Crow instantly becomes their #1 or #2 prospect as soon as he’s signed. That’s a pretty desolate franchise and it’s kind of a shame Crow couldn’t have gone to a good organization like Cincinnati. Man, can you imagine in two or three years, a rotation of Volquez/Bailey/Crow/Cueto/Harang? As long as “120-pitch” Dusty Baker wasn’t still managing them, that’d be one HELL of a team.

Oh, no, Mr. Scioscia. At this time tomorrow, you'll barely be able to breathe.
I still can't believe...
...that a GM (not named Dave Littlefield) was dumb enough to actually have the following thought process: “Hmm…our biggest strength is our depth of young pitching…I wonder who would handle a staff of young, developing arms the best…oh, I know—Dusty Baker! He handled Prior and Wood well…he’s our guy!”

The Edinson Volquez arm death clock is moving quickly towards midnight...
With every 100+ pitch start Dusty lets him throw.
Pedro Alvarez was a great pick for the Bucs. They need to get him signed ASAP because he definitely could have an impact in the majors as soon as 2009.

so many different opinions on Alvarez....
...I like the “we’re not scared to draft Boras clients” message, but I’ve heard a) he’s by far the most talented guy in the draft (and only fell to #2 because of the hand injury) and b) he struck out way too much in college and will likely fail because of it. We’ll see…but I’m happy with the pick. Last year’s first rounder was a failure the moment the name was announced (they picked Moskos over Wieters because they didn’t want to spend the money to sign him…and then traded for $20+ million of Matt Morris…GOD I hated Dave Littlefield), so this is an upgrade.

Sign me up on the Smoak bandwagon...
If he’s promising at all, the Rangers will do what they always do: trade him and start someone like Chris Shelton.
After all, Adrian Gonzalez, Travis Hafner and Mark Texiera never really amounted to anything anyway.
Wooooo Rangers.

Hasn't that been a trend with Texas?
Any promising player they have gets traded (Gonzalez, Hafner, Tex, Danks) or falls completely off the map (Blalock). It’s good to see them finally locking up guys like Young and Kinsler…man, that’s a hell of a double play combo. Too bad they can’t pitch…

Actually, I take back that crack about Washington...
They don’t have a whole lot of good prospects above AA, but they do have a lot of good, young talent in the lower levels of their system. They could be the guys Crow comes up with to give Washington a good, young, group of players that could have an impact in 2-3 years.

Rick Zagone goes early in the 6th round to Baltimore
Was not sure he would go that early, will be interesting to see what decision he makes as it pertains to next season

Congrats to Crow
to bad he is a Nat and couldn’t fall a few more spots to the Cards
Baseball-Cardinals
Football-Rams
College Sports-MU Tigers!
Priday to Houston...
With the 332nd pick.
Also, the White Sox now have both the Danks brothers after taking Jordan in the seventh round!

Both of whom could have done great things in the state of Texas...
At least Jordan didn’t have to deal with Jon Daniels.

Other Tigers drafted...
Ryan Lollis—20th round, pick #613 to the Detroit Tigers
Kurt Calvert—32nd round, pick #971 to the Chicago Cubs
Lee Fischer—46th round, pick #1377 to the Chicago White Sox
Lollis hopefully will return and try to improve his stock next year. I laughed my ass off when I saw the Sox took Fischer.
