Measuring rivalries

The neutral site game needs to be the biggest rivalry we have. I like what was mentioned in the podcast, that it’s during Thanksgiving week. It’s got a lot of importance around it. This has the potential to be our own Red River Rivalry, and that’s good for both teams, and the city.

It’s great to have the home games, but I’d rather have my season opener versus Illinois so that the Como fans can see an actually good non-con.

Also, I second the motion to never go to Lawrence, ever, ever, ever again.

Agreed.

If anything, having the Illini game be on the campuses only makes it more of a rivalry, which could be a good thing. While having Braggin’ Rights at a neutral site works well, it does so because of the nature of the basketball schedule allowing other rivalries to be a home-and-home.

Plus, while St. Louis has a fair amount of Illinois fans, it’s much more of a Tigers town (especially now that they’re good and have the bandwagoners on their side). KC is a much more split town, even among the bandwagon jumpers and on the Kansas side.

It's a funny name.

… you would have had full support on motions never to go to Boulder or Manhattan ever again, either.

I just don’t see a home-and-home “building” the Illinois rivalry. It’s semi-convenient for a lot of fans to make it to St. Louis, but how many would travel from Columbia to Champaign and vice versa? At least with Kansas, the hatred is built from proximity. The Nebraska win was much better last year because it afforded you the option to yell “Restore the Order” at all 5,000+ of them once the assault was finished.

no no, different story...

…we had long losing streaks at CU and KSU because they were better than us most of the time. In ’97, ’99, ’03 and ’05, we were better than KU (on paper) and laid big, fat eggs in Lawrence. Never wanna go back.
