Live Thread - Volleyball vs. Tulane
That's right folks...figured I had a little bit of time, I'd see how Mizzou Volleyball does in their opening match of the 2008 season, coming from BYU against Tulane. Remember, a major rule change this year as sets will only be played to 25 (instead of 30 previously) in sets 1-4, set 5 still goes to 15. How will the fairly young Tiger start their campaign?

Match is underway and Tulane currently has a 19-14 lead with Tulane coming out hot hitting almost .300 and the Tigers not hitting in the positive right now.

Mizzou blocking the heck out of the ball...up 14-12 now
Still not hitting all that well, but Tulane is either scoring or getting it stuffed back in their face.

7.9%?!?
Wow, that’s awful. Is it that Tulane just isn’t swinging well, or is the Tiger D just that good?

A bit of both..
I think Tulane was having a tough time with the Mizzou block and started forcing things in that frame. They seem to be settling back in a bit in the third.

Tigers picking it up, Tulane calls TO still up 17-15
Service errors are plaguing the Tigers at this point, giving away a lot of points to the Green Wave in the 3rd set.

Brimmage has been big in the middle…Wendy Wang was big to close it out. The Tigers hit only .156 in the 3rd, but Tulane was even worse at -.028 with 12 errors. Mizzou is hitting .212 for the match, while the Wave are down to .111. Freshman Priscilla Armendariz is having a great match with 10 digs in the back to go with Vann’s 14. Tigers still hitting .346 and have it out to 19-13
Tulane has called timeout…will need to turn it around in a real hurry or they will get cloesd out by the Tigers.

An ace closes it out...Mizzou wins 25-14
a blocking clinic down the stretch with TWENTY total blocks by the Tigers. They end up hitting a very decent .248 for the match, and right now need to clean up the service errors. They dug very well for the match with three in double digits, as Megan Wilson is a kill short of a double-double. Lei Wang had a great last 3 sets and finished with 39 assists for the match. Wendy Wang with 15 kills to only one error and a 41 percent hiting percentage.
Mizzou moves to 1-0 and will have two matches tomorrow.

20 BLOCKS?!?!
Holy crap. If you get three per game, you’re considered a darn good blocking team. But an average of five? That’s getting it done. By the way, I caught Nebraska’s match against Stanford on TV. The Huskers swept, which is very surprising even though it was played in Omaha. Stanford has three hitters as good as anyone in the country, but they lost their setter and I guess it will take them time to find a rhythm (and I believe the Cardinal’s libero, with the last name of Ailes, is related to a former Tiger). Either way, NU will be ultra tough as always.

Is Sarah Pavan still up there?
Seems she has been around forever, but it would not surprise me if she had one more season of domination/eligibility left.
