Rock M Roll Call '08

This is something I've wanted to do for awhile, but with football season inching closer, I figured it's time to take the first official Rock M Roll Call.

At its core, the roll call is simply a way for everyone here on RMN to introduce themselves and establish some sense of who they are, where they're from, and their affiliation to the University of Missouri. For an idea of what we're shooting for, check out what Double T Nation did early in July.

Whether you joined Rock M from its first day last October or are brand spankin' new to the RMN community, join us in the comments and give us a little insight about who you are when it comes to Mizzou fandom.

In addition, to get this post to stick at the top of the FanPosts throughout the season, everyone please take the time to click the "Rec" button below the text to recommend this post. Hopefully, this will entice every RMN member to join in the Roll Call.

Here's some ideas of where to start:

  1. Where are you from originally, and where do you live now?
  2. How are you affiliated with the university: student, alum, parent, fan, etc?
  3. Why did you develop an interest in the University of Missouri?
  4. What is your favorite all-time moment in Mizzou history, and who is your favorite athlete?

Ugh. Introductions? I thought this was anonymous, and I could badmouth anyone and everyone?

Anyways…

1. Where are you from originally, and where do you live now?
Originally from Dallas, Texas (which remains one of the most underrated cities in America), currently living in Tulsa, Oklahoma (which remains one of the most underrated cities in America).
2. How are you affiliated with the university: student, alum, parent, fan, etc?
I'm a recent alum. BJ '08. And yes, that's what she said.
3. Why did you develop an interest in the University of Missouri?
Best journalism school in the nation did the trick. Made a visit to Mizzou and immediately knew it was the place for me. Plus, sweet dorms.
4. What is your favorite all-time moment in Mizzou history, and who is your favorite athlete?
Hard to top Mizzou-KU at Arrowhead last year, descending the spirals chanting "We're No. 1" and meaning it. But I must admit, Mizzou-KU 2006 (The Thomas Gardner Affair) was pretty sweet.
Favorite athlete? That's tough, but I'll probably cop out and go with Brad Smith. Still the only Mizzou jersey I own, and I've worn it to every Mizzou football game I've attended the past five years.

I vote that BaseballIsMyBoyfriend buys the Rangers.

Did that post come out looking really weird for anyone else?

Whoa, uh, epic fail?

No idea what happened there. Let’s try again.

Where are you originally from, and where do you live now?
Originally from Dallas, Texas (one of the world’s great underrated cities), now living and working in Tulsa, Oklahoma (one of the world’s great underrated cities). And yes, I know rpt. We’ve met.

How are you affiliated with the University?
Recent alum. BJ ‘08. And yes, that’s what she said.

Why did you develop an interest in the University of Missouri?
Best journalism school in the nation did the trick. I visited during my junior year in high school and immediately knew it was the place for me. Also, sweet dorms.

What is your all-time favorite moment in Mizzou history, and who is your favorite athlete?
Hard to top Mizzou-KU at Arrowhead last year, descending the famous spiral ramps chanting “We’re No. 1!” and meaning it. But Mizzou-KU 2006 (the Thomas Gardner Affair) was pretty sweet, too.
Favorite athlete? It’s a cop out answer, but I’ll go with Bd. Smith. Still the only Mizzou jersey I’ve ever owned, and I’ve worn that jersey to every football game in the last five years.

I vote that BaseballIsMyBoyfriend buys the Rangers.

To keep us rolling

1. I was born in Dallas, TX and raised in a nearby suburb (Coppell) where I attended the rival high school of one Chase Daniel during parts of his tenure in Southlake. I now emanate my Mizzou thoughts direct from Columbia, MO during the school year and from back home in Texas during the summers/breaks. And, yes, as proud as I am to be a Texan, I’m that proud to be a Missouri Tiger. And anyone who knows me will say that’s saying something.

2. I am currently a student at the University. I have no family ties to the university whatsoever.

3. Like I said, I had no family ties and no immediate connection to Mizzou. As a freshman in high school, I began to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, and subsequently found Mizzou. I began rooting for MU that year, and my interest only grew from there.

4. I’ve broken down my favorite moment before, not just because it was a big moment for the program, but because I got to share that moment with my family. For my favorite athlete, big names like Daniel, Maclin, Bd. Smith, etc. are a given, but I still hold a soft spot for the tremendous heart and passion of Pig Brown, which I detailed in the Spider Regional of the initial Mizzou 25 competition.

My turn...

1. I was born in Columbia (my dad was getting his Ph.D at Mizzou) and moved to Weatherford, OK, when I was about 1.5. I lived there through high school.

2. Two-time alum.

3. I was born here and, ever the contrarian, decided that Mizzou was my team instead of OU or OSU—all my family/friends were OU fans, and I’m talking about the “Charles Thompson was framed” type of OU fans. I couldn’t take part in that, so I went with the school that gave my dad his final degree. Then it turned out I had an interest in journalism in high school, and guess what…Mizzou has the #1 journalism school! It was fate…even though I decided after 1 semester that I didn’t want to do journalism.

4. For moments I’ve experienced in person, here are the top 5: a) the go-ahead touchdown (Corby to Eddie Brooks) in Q4 of the ‘97 MU-NU game; b) the fake FG in Q4 of the ‘03 MU-NU game; and c) Clarence Gilbert going off, d) Mizzou embarrassing Ohio State in the NCAAs in 2002, and e) the 11pm “we’re kicking their ass” wave at Faurot last October.

My Story

1. Where are you from originally, and where do you live now?
From Chicago area, still live there when not at school
2. How are you affiliated with the university: student, alum, parent, fan, etc?
Current student with no other connections to the school
3. Why did you develop an interest in the University of Missouri?
Randomly suggested that I check it out when I was a junior in HS. Went on a visit, and loved it. Now here we are.
4. What is your favorite all-time moment in Mizzou history, and who is your favorite athlete?
My first Mizzou football game I watched was Brad Smith’s senior year game against Nebraska. The Independence Bowl was real fun to watch. Last year against Nebraska was the second loudest I have ever heard a stadium (Lambeau when Favre is announced). That was also the most fun I have ever had at a football game. Cotton Bowl win was the highlight of my Mizzou fandom so far.

As long as we're outing. . .

1. Where are you from originally, and where do you live now?
I’ve lived in Ohio, Texas, Louisiana and Oregon. Moved to CoMo 3 years ago (wife’s family is here).
2. How are you affiliated with the university: student, alum, parent, fan, etc?
My only official connection to MU is a shared zipcode. I do a sports show called the Closers here in Colmbia on KFRU (Spencer is my name), so it’s in my best interest to follow the school’s sports teams. It just so happens I really like the Tigers.
3. Why did you develop an interest in the University of Missouri?
What’s not to like about the football team. I guess I showed up at the exact right time to see some great football in Columbia. I’m hoping that I will also see the hoops team turn around.
4. What is your favorite all-time moment in Mizzou history, and who is your favorite athlete?
It would have to be the Arrowhead game last year. I ended up down on the field for the end of the game. An unforgettable night.

by SleepyFloyd7 on Aug 3, 2008 7:49 PM CDT   0 recs

forgot another favorite moment:

We had Brian Smith on the show last year and he put me in a headlock. I’m still walking crooked.

Bam

1. I am from just west of Chicago, in the largest village in the world. Yes, we have a village-style government because the way we used to do things was rife with corruption. So we became a village. I still live here but when I move back to Columbia for school I plan on staying to get in-state tuition.

2. Supposedly my Godmother went to this school for a semester. But we are not related. Also, Missouri almost offered my grandfather a scholarship for diving way back in the day but Oklahoma beat them to it. That is also speculation. But I am to be a Sophomore.

3. Truth be told, there were only two schools I got in to. When I told my Aunt which schools, she kinda vomited in her mouth when I said the other. That and when I called the admissions office of this other school, I was not digging the response I got. Oh, and campus was gorgeous when I visited in June of ‘06.

4. In person, no doubt it was Gold Rush against Nebraska. But my all time favorite was when I was on my couch in my warm, warm house and I saw Todd Reesing eating turf for a late night snack.

by mcboomofdoom on Aug 3, 2008 9:23 PM CDT   0 recs

Here goes...

1. Oak Park, IL (same as mcboomofdoom) is where I’m from, but starting last Friday, I’m living full-time down here in Columbia.
2. Student, class of 2011, majoring in journalism—like every other out-of-stater.
3. Initially, I have Kareem Rush to thank for that. I remember pulling hard for Mizzou back when they made the elite 8, and then my mom mentioned that Missouri had a good journalism school, so it’s basically been my dream school since I was in about eighth grade.
4. What is your favorite all-time moment in Mizzou history, and who is your favorite athlete? My favorite moment would be watching from 7 rows off the end zone as Todd Reesing went down at Arrowhead. Yeah, I was freezing, but it was completely worth it. As for my favorite athlete, I’m going to take Kareem Rush, but I’m pretty sure Terry Dennis is climbing on that list.

Will...I...be...able...to...play...softball...tomorrow?
Oh, no, Mr. Scioscia. At this time tomorrow, you'll barely be able to breathe.

Formerly Lucas, now amorphous

Ditched Lucas because it was boring.

1. Where are you from originally, and where do you live now? I moved to St. Louis when I was about three, now I currently reside in Austin, TX, as a student at UT, currently in 21st grade, by my count. (side note: Mizzou comes here this year, finally, again)

2. How are you affiliated with the university: student, alum, parent, fan, etc?
BS ChE ‘04.

3. Why did you develop an interest in the University of Missouri?
Honestly, I grew up an LSU fan. My parents weren’t much into sports, but that was their alma mater. Neither LSU or Mizzou gave me much of an argument to gain their allegiance as a kid, so I stuck with what I knew. As it became more apparent that I was possibly heading to Mizzou (about ‘96 or so), I started to try to force myself to follow them. I became obsessive about Mizzou while there, more thanks to basketball than football. That’s not to say I didn’t love football, but they didn’t love me back so much from 2000-2003. Now I get to be the one guy wearing yellow in a sea of burnt orange (the black stays in hiding until it cools off about 40 degrees, like after Thanksgiving).

4. What is your favorite all-time moment in Mizzou history, and who is your favorite athlete?
Is it sadistic to pick Shevin Wiggins to Matt Davison? I don’t like it for what happens, only for the passion it symbolizes. David nearly toppling Goliath. The year in year out “this could be our year” mentality that the little guys constantly scrape for. That feeling in your stomach when something goes terribly wrong. You never feel more like a fan than when things are at their worst.

Aw, fuck it. I hate that moment. I guess the easy choice was beating Nebraska in Columbia, rushing the field, and watching one of my friends be one of only like a dozen people to get arrested.

My favorite Mizzou athlete was Atiyyah Ellison.

by amorphous on Aug 4, 2008 11:35 AM CDT   0 recs

I guess I'll go

ZouDave here. I’m the idiot that made posting random pictures in the Roundtable into an event that is either the cause of or result of a Roundtable derailing.

1. Where are you from originally, and where do you live now?

Born and raised KCMO. Still live in the Northland area, not too far from where I grew up, but I actually live in Pleasant Valley, MO, instead of KC. The difference is I don’t have to pay the 1% earnings tax.

2. How are you affiliated with the university: student, alum, parent, fan, etc?

I’ve never known life without Mizzou. Mom and dad are both from Missouri, and the families have strong roots in Missouri going way back (as chronicled in a post during the week of the ku game in 2007). Mom graduated from Mizzou in 1968, and while dad didn’t attend Mizzou he’s always been a Tiger (he graduated from SMS). My sister graduated from Mizzou in ‘94, and I attended Mizzou briefly in 1994 and 1995 before uh…not returning. Still, I’ve NEVER claimed another University as my own other than the one I work for now (which is in no way a competitor of any kind with Mizzou).

3. Why did you develop an interest in the University of Missouri?

Honestly, I’m not sure I had a choice. My parents bleed black and gold so I did too. Looking at it from the outside, though, I’m SO glad I was raised a Tiger and not a jayhawk which is predominant in this area of the state. I hate those people, and would not want to realize one day that I was those people.

4. What is your favorite all-time moment in Mizzou history, and who is your favorite athlete?

You know, I never though anything would ever touch the 2003 Nebraska Game as favorite all-time moment. That fake FG pass from Riccio to Sesay is something I’m never going to forget, and I had a perfect view of it since it happened in the corner of the endzone where I sit (30 rows up, parallel to the back of the endzone). But a mere 5 years later, being at Arrowhead for that Mizzou vs kansas game, I once again can’t imagine a sporting event topping that. We’ll see how I feel this year after we win a freaking National Title.

Favorite Athlete? Oy, I don’t know. So easy for me to answer Chase Daniel or Jeremy Maclin, or go with the safe answer of Brad Smith, or even Corby Jones. I’m a huge football fan and have watched Mizzou pretty religiously since I was a teenager, so while I missed our first glory days by quite a bit I’ve seen the lows and am loving the new highs. But honestly, my favorite Mizzou athlete ever is Clarence Gilbert. I love heart, I love hustle, and I love guys that are better than they should be. That’s Clarence Gilbert. All heart, all hustle, and while he had enough talent to be in the Big XII he never would have been here without Keyon Dooling. He wasn’t big, he wasn’t all that fast, and his shot could be pretty ugly. But he was electric, and he gave every ounce of energy he ever had to that team and he always left it all out on the floor. No matter how far out of a game we were, with Gilbert on the floor a comeback was at least possible. I loved watching him rain 3’s, and I loved watching him stifle an opposing guard. I loved watching people much more highly touted than he ever would be have to watch him score on them time and again. He, to me, is what Mizzou sports has always been about. Scrappy, tenacious, and a little pissed off. You don’t necessarily have to win, but you better be freaking trying.

Alright...checking in (finally...was in MN all weekend)

Where are you from originally, and where do you live now?

I am originally from Norwalk, CT, about 40 minutes from New York City. Born and pretty much raised a Penn State fan. I came to Mizzou in 1995 and never left the area (for the most part). I know live in St. Charles, MO, where I have been the last 2+ years.

How are you affiliated with the university: student, alum, parent, fan, etc?

I was a student from 1995 to 2000….and once again for a short time in 2003 (only some know that story). Been a season ticket holder every year since I was in school, and I helped create the Tiger’s Lair and Zou Crew while I was there.

Why did you develop an interest in the University of Missouri?

I wanted to go to Journalism school out of high school, so Mizzou was my 1st and only school to which I applied. Once I got there, I really came to love the school, the area and the part of the country. Even once I decided not to major in journalism, Mizzou had a grasp on me and there was never a question about my potentially leaving to transfer closer to home or something.

What is your favorite all-time moment in Mizzou history, and who is your favorite athlete?

Wow…that’s a tough one…a good number come to mind. * The 2 OT game vs. kU back in 1997’ * Our win over Ohio State down in New Mexico in the 2nd round of the NCAA’s * Standing on the field as Olivo scored the TD late in the 1st half against NU in 1997 * Walking into the stadium for our game against NU in 2007 * Brad Smith’s game against OU in Faurot, even though we lost * The noise in Hearnes as Gilbert hit the deck after being fouled on the 5th straight 3-pointer (I believe it was 5…maybe 4)

As for favorite athlete, I will have to go with Ben Askren. Just total dominance and a true Univeristy embassador

An older generation checking in.....

1. Where are you from originally, and where do you live now?

I’m originally from the farmlands of the Mighty Mo watershed just East of Kansas City. Norborne, but no one here has ever heard of it. I currently reside in Nashville West (Branson, MO).

2. How are you affiliated with the university: student, alum, parent, fan, etc?

BS ‘86, MS ‘89, and Ed.D. ‘09 if all goes as planned.

3. Why did you develop an interest in the University of Missouri?

Back before KC had the Chiefs and Royals, the Tigers were our sports universe in small town Missouri. As a high school athlete with dreams, I attended both MU football and basketball camps. Side bar: I’m probably on of a 1,000 kids that has an autograph from Norm Stewart, that was to, “A future Hall of Famer”. At 5’10”, that didn’t exactly work out! My high school basketball coach was a close friend of Coach Stewart and still is in the top 25 or so of all-time scorers, Charlie Henke. Also, my grandparents and parents had football season tickets during the golden era of the 60s. For you history buffs, check out the only town/high school team that defeated MU. My grandfather played tackle for Richmond, MO that played and beat MU in 1916. I believe it was some sort of an exhibition game.

4. What is your favorite all-time moment in Mizzou history, and who is your favorite athlete?

My passion is basketball. I had the pleasure of watching the four year run of the Sunvold/Stepo era in person. My favorite player will show my age and I wonder if anyone else on this site will even know who he was…....Jim Kennedy. He was the consumate role player/hustler back when Stormin’ Norman was beginning to build his legend in the early seventies.

hey there...

Where are you from originally, and where do you live now?

i’m from joplin (or j-town as its known by the indigenous peoples) and lived there thru high school. now, i live in centennial, co, which is on the southeast side of denver. i’ve also lived in columbia, nixa, leadville co (high temp of like -5 that winter), and gypsum co.

How are you affiliated with the university: student, alum, parent, fan, etc?
i attended mizzou from 91-95 and 96-99. even managed to acquire 2 degrees, bes in education and ms in recreation management. i also worked for the intramural program at mizzou starting as a referee and eventually serving as the interim im director for a year.

Why did you develop an interest in the University of Missouri?
my first experience with mizzou was a summer camp i attended while in high school. it was like no place i had ever seen and i loved it. i knew then and there that this was my school. i briefly considered attending colorado, but my first mizzou fb game (the 5th down game) ended those thoughts.

What is your favorite all-time moment in Mizzou history, and who is your favorite athlete?
i’ll stick to ones i’ve witnessed in person:
- 10+ minute standing o after beating nebraska to go 14-0 in big 8 in 94
- arrowhead 07: safety to seal the deal
- 4th quarter against nebraska in 03. man, that was a long time coming.
- 4th quarter against nebraska in 97. no, wait a minute…
- watching the ncaa pre-season video conference in norm’s office with norm, kim anderson and rich daly. those guys were hilarious, ripping on refs and other coaches.

favorite athletes: norm stewart, anthony peeler (i had to guard him in a pickup game once, not pretty) and martin rucker

i’m sure you were one of my many minions. just kidding.

remember marshall? i started reffing for him in 93. then became supervisor and summer camp counselor in 94. when i came back in 96, i was his grad asst for 2 years. he quit in the summer of 98 and i took over for the 98-99 school year. it was a temporary gig, and i left after i graduated. i think they’ve had a new person in that position every year since then.

what sports did you work? summer camp?

by Wooderson on Aug 6, 2008 4:00 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I do indeed remember Marshall...

...I ended up doing football for 3-4 years and soccer for 1. I hated soccer. And I took over coordinating the individual sports somewhere in there…probably 98-99, actually. Did that for a couple years. So…yeah…we had to have known each other. :-)

My wife (the former Katie Kelly) sends her regards...

I was relaying the story of you and The Boy bumping into one another on here…

Me: “Do you remember a guy named Marshall from rec sports?”

her: “Marshall Robb?”

Me: “Oh yeah…I Remember that name…well…there is a guy on the site that knew him from rec sports.”

her: ” (wooderson’s real name)?

Me: “Oh..um…I don’t know…I guess I can look it up…..(looking it up)...son of a bitch…yep…(wooderson’s real name).”

Story might lose something in the translation…but she pegged you from the get-go.

Go Tigers!

1. I grew up in Louisburg, KS (I’ll bet I’m the only one on this site that can say that … technically, I lived about 50 yards inside the Missouri border, but I went to all Kansas schools growing up … mom and dad were both school teachers in the LBC). Now, I live in KCMO North, in between Liberty and the airport. Flying the oldschool ‘M’ flag proudly in our subdivision.

2. I am a lifelong fan of the Tigers, though I’ve never graduated from there. I received a full-ride from CMSU and not much financial help from Mizzou, so I took the money and ran. I did, however, attend grad school at Mizzou for a year in 2000, but I was offered a job before I could finish and again, took the money and ran.

3. My first memory of Mizzou is either the 1981 Tangerine Bowl or the 1981 NCAA tournament in which Stipo and Sundvold lost in the NCAA tournament (though I can’t remember who they lost to in the game I watched). Anyway, one of those two games was my earliest memory of Tiger sports … but I can’t definitively say which one it was. Regardless, I was a big Tiger fan beginning from the time I was six years old (probably was before that too, but I don’t remember it). My fandom kicked it up a notch when Derrick Chievous came along (coincidentally, I worshipped Kevin Harlan … too bad I found out later that he was a Beaker). That 1987 team that beat kU in the Big 8 tournament on a Lee Coward jumper was one of my favorites. Unfortunately, that team also tanked to Xavier … it’s for that reason that I still cannot cheer for the Musketeers. That scarred me for life.

Despite not attending Mizzou, I feel as though I paid my dues (as well as more than a few bar tabs at Harpo’s, Booche’s, Quinton’s, Shiloh, Willie’s, Field House, Sofia’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Big 12, Black and Gold, etc.). Not only was I holding it down for the Tigers in enemy territory throughout my formative years (and let me tell you, it was great when Mizzou won, but it sucked ass when we lost), but I’ve carried the mantle on into my adult life fighting it out here on the frontlines against those Beaker a-holes. Hopefully you guys from Chi-town or Texas or wherever understand just how much beating kU means to guys like me that grew up in KC.

4. My best memory of my Tiger fandom is definitely Armageddon at Arrowhead last year. But there are so many more. Coward beating kU not once, but twice on a buzzer beater in the 1987 season. The Anthony Peeler dunk against OU the night Norm got sick. The day AP went off in Allen (unfortunately, those two AP games were both losses). Beating kU twice with them ranked No. 1 in 1991. Chris Heller’s Big 8 Tournament run. Finally becoming bowl eligible at Colorado in 1997. Finally winning a bowl against Marc Bulger and Jerry Porter in 1998. The drubbing by Arkansas in 94, only to go undefeated in conference that same year. Then there’s all the recent memories. The 02 tourney run. Bad Brad’s intro to college football versus Illinois. Getting mad at OCDC in the 03 bowl game. Giving OCDC props for the offense he created in 06 and 07. Being on the FirePinkel bandwagon in 04. Eating my words the last couple years. And there’s probably a bunch more.

Born a Tiger

1. Where are you from originally, and where do you live now?
Born and raised an hour from Columbia. Went to school at Mizzou and ended up staying in Columbia for about 5 years after graduating. Came close to leaving for Colorado in 96 but ended up meeting my now wife, also a Mizzou grad and decided to stay for a while longer. We moved out to Charlotte NC in 98 and have been enjoying it since.
2. How are you affiliated with the university: student, alum, parent, fan, etc?
My parents never went to college, weren’t sports fans and never pushed me to be. I turned out a diehard Mizzou fan anyway. I can remember being 7 years old and setting in my bedroom listening to a static filled broadcast on a bad AM radio to Mizzou basketball after I was supposed to be in bed. My sister did graduate from law school in 2000 from Mizzou.
3. Why did you develop an interest in the University of Missouri?
Living an hour away and basically memorizing articles out of Sports Illustrated after beating North Carolina.
4. What is your favorite all-time moment in Mizzou history, and who is your favorite athlete?
My best all time memory came from beating KU to go to #1 with Doug Smith and AP, then getting to do it again in Lawerance. I still remember going home from a party that night at 4am and people were still out partying in greek town. Great night. Seeing us become bowl eligible out in Boulder for the first time in a generation was awsome. Making the trip out for Nebraska and seeing all that gold will be somethng I’ll keep forever. I’ve been there for likely the two worst defeats in school history, 5th down and the kicked ball. I still catch the replay on ESPN once in a while and see myself standing in the corner of the endzone. That said, I was still so damn proud of both of those teams those 2 days.

Respect and honor your opponent, unless that opponent is a fictional bird. In which case you hit him until he falls, kick him until dead and burn the remains.

Raised a Tiger

1. I’m from Kirkwood, MO, but I currently live in Tulsa, OK @ TU.
2. Well, my dad went to Mizzou, and 2/3 of my high school class went to Mizzou. It was too big for me, but I still love it as a college. I’ve been to too many games to count. Also, I enjoy Shakespeare’s.
3. Blood, locality, good taste, and cousins who went to KU brought a natural sense of rivalry into me.
4. Either the Mizzou stomping last year on KU, or going to Indianapolis to watch them play in ‘02.

Prospects are good. Especially when they aren't rushed.

Representing the ladies...

Where are you from originally, and where do you live now?
I was born and raised on the East Coast, moved to the Chicago suburbs in high school and I came back to the Chicago suburbs after college.

How are you affiliated with the university: student, alum, parent, fan, etc?
BS HES ‘04 – I would probably wager I’m the only Human Development and Family Studies major on here.

Why did you develop an interest in the University of Missouri?
I had planned to major in Journalism, but things didn’t quite turn out that way. I visited the campus on a whim when I was picking schools, because my high school journalism teacher was an alum. And also, awesome. I ended up falling in love with the school and staying even after I chose a different major.

What is your favorite all-time moment in Mizzou history, and who is your favorite athlete?
My absolute favorite moment was when Mizzou beat Nebraska in 2003. I lived in the Providence Hill apartments near the stadium and just up the hill from Reactor Field. Everything was electric – we had friends over for the game and it was just amazing the way we could watch the game happening inside and hear the game happening outside. As soon as we won, we ran out of the apartment and ran down (and then up again) the hill to the stadium and walked with the (gigantic crowd and) goal post to Harpo’s. Probably one of my favorite memories as a student…Also, my favorite athlete would probably be Marcus James, he was #0 I think, a football player we lived with my freshman year in Smith Hall. He wasn’t necessarily one of the big names (although whenever anyone would mention him, we’d squeal with excitement and be all “I know that guy!!”), but he always was such a fantastic guy to know – really friendly and hysterical.

Lurker last year, possible poster this year?

1. I am from Creve Coeur, MO, and I have recently moved back there after graduation from MU.
2. I am an alum- Middle School English and Social Studies Education.
3. My parents, all my aunts and uncles on my mom’s side, my older brother, and now my younger brother all went (is going) to MU. So, yea, one could say I’ve been there before. I was the little girl in the MU cheer leading uniform when I was a toddler.
4. Well, I must admit, I have only been a big fan of MU football since I was a freshman, so I only have 4 years to choose from. If I had to pick a top 3, I would say; any play from Chase Daniel to Chase Coffman, beating Kansas, especially seeing Reesing with the turf in his helmet, and going to the cotton bowl.

thanks!

I enjoyed reading your posts last year. You really seem to know a lot of valuable information, and I relied on it heavily to teach my roommate last year about tigers football. I got really into vivaelbirdos.com this year (a cardinals SBnation blog), and after reading RockMNation all last year, it was strange to figure out that the blogs are related. Thanks for the welcome!

Always a Tiger fan

Grew up in Appleton City, MO. Currently living in Independence. Been a fan since the late 60’s. I remember losing the Orange Bowl in ‘70 and thinking we’d get a chance to redeem ourselves next year. Still waiting.
Not really affiliated with the university. I attended Call Me Stupid University.
Favorite Tiger memory would be my sophomore year in College. Hitchedhiked to Birmingham to watch the Tigers take on Alabama.
Favorite athlete would have to be Brad Smith. Without him, none of this is happening.

Re: Roll Call

Well, I came across Rock M Nation roughly 3 or 4 months ago, and have been an avid visitor/reader since. Good timing, by creating the Rock M Blog… Mizzou needed a good blog system to go along with Mizzourah and the newly created ESPN Big XII variant. Seems to be the wave of the future.

In any case, on to the questions!

Where are you from originally, and where do you live now?
I am from a small town in Missouri… Salem, MO. For those of you that know where Rolla, MO is – think 30 miles south. I currently live in St. Louis, MO (after living in Charlotte, NC for 3 years).

How are you affiliated with the university: student, alum, parent, fan, etc?
I am an alum. I went to the University of Missouri from 1998 to 2002. It was the only university I ever followed in sports, and the only university I ever wanted to attend (or apply). Good thing I got accepted!

Why did you develop an interest in the University of Missouri?
I was more of a baseball fan and never really followed football since I was from St. Louis. I loved watching Missouri basketball and was disappointed when we lost to UCLA. Nebraska versus Missouri back in 1997 changed all that – don’t get me wrong, I love my college basketball – Mizzou football has been the #1 sport in my heart since that faithful game (which we ended up losing).

What is your favorite all-time moment in Mizzou history, and who is your favorite athlete?
In person, my favorite all-time moment was watching us beat West Virginia and Marc Bulger in Tucson, AZ at the Insight.com Bowl. Mizzou versus Illini and Mizzou versus Texas Tech were fun games last year. I also loved seeing games at Nebraska and Kansas (although I had to take a mighty THOROUGH shower after that visit) – traveling and rooting for the Tigers of Ole Mizzou. MU-KU basketball games back at the Hearnes also stand out in my mind.

Favorite player? I’d say Kareem Rush – the star of MU basketball during the years I attended Mizzou. Chase Daniel, Jeremy Maclin, Wesley Stokes (and his hair), Corby Jones, Brad Smith, Justin Smith, Justin Gage, Brock Olivo and Darius Outlaw (remember the Outlaw for Heisman signs? Man, we were silly back then). Finally, Kirk “Mr. Glass” Farmer’s sadly injury riddled-run and Clarence “shoot-shoot-shoot” Gilbert’s basketball always holds a place in my heart (as they were seemingly always the topic of discussion).

My freshman roommate was from Salem, MO,

I spent a number of weekends down there rolling Sonic and and getting around town. I started in 1995, Eric Lewis was my frosh roommate (he was a year older than I was)…ended up in the Air Force…as far as I know his mother is still down there.

Where are you from originally, and where do you live now?
I was born in Fulton, MO and now i live in Lee’s Summit, MO after living in Knoxville, TN for 4 years
How are you affiliated with the university: student, alum, parent, fan, etc?
Both my parents went to mizzou (my mom transferred there after a couple years at SEMO) Also i have been a fan since i was born and get season tickets every year. Missouri is on the top of my list of schools to attend next fall
Why did you develop an interest in the University of Missouri?
My uncles father, Bob Vanatta was a head coach for the tigers basketball team from 1962-1967 (he has the worst winning pct of any coach there so far lol)
Also i love the town of columbia and always wanted to go to school there
What is your favorite all-time moment in Mizzou history, and who is your favorite athlete?
When Bd. Smith led missouri to a bigtime comeback against south carolina in the ‘05 independence bowl. My friend said there was no way missouri would beat USC ( i was living in tennessee then so he was a diehard SEC fan). This game showed that the tigers had potential to be a good football team and they’ve never looked back since then. Also the KU game last year was pretty exciting too lol
My favorite player from mizzou would have to be Jeremy Maclin, before last year Damien Nash and Kareem Rush

Robot's Back, Bitches.

After a long hiatus (outside of the roundtables), I have returned.

Born in KC, raised in Arkansas by a pack of coyotes. Attended Mizzou to pursue journalism because the J-School was the only thing that reminded me of scavenging.

Class of ’04. Brad Smith was in my freshmen philosophy class with the least football centric professor of all time who liked to give him a hard time. “Could you please stop scoring touchdowns or whatever they are so often? The cheers do tend to drown out all sound in my humble abode while my wife and I enjoy our morning coffee and tea.” Watching Brad Smith wax poetic on Kantian philosophy was one of my favorite things to happen there.

Live in Austin, TX now. Writer for Ridiculous Upside (an SBNation site), Hardwood Paroxysm, and AOL FanHouse.

Favorite moment? Oh, Reesing getting turf-surfed was pretty nice… but I’ll go with Mizzou beating UCLA to advance to the elite eight in 2002. After the coast to coast debacle, I’d be happy with beating UCLA seventeenhundredthousand times.

But my favorite athlete? Golden Watermelon Balls of Fury, of course.
