All I have to say is....WOW
Check out the pictures from TTech and Jones/AT&T Stadium after NINE inches of rain fell. And, this was NOT Hurricane-Ike related...just a pacific storm blowing through. Needless to say (again)....wow.

Tech's athletic website saying
game will be played as scheduled. Wow. I know they’d have better drainage if this was a grass field, but with that much rain it really doesn’t matter. Can you imagine the shape that field would be in if it WAS grass? NASTY. Be worse than that NFL game last year when they laid the new sod 2 days before the game – Pittsburgh?

Yes,
it was the Pittsburgh vs. Jacksonville game. It sounded like a loose interpretation of “home field advantage” and like questionably ethical gamesmanship to me.

Lubbock is not made for rain
I am really wondering how many people make it if they do have it, that town does not have much of a storm sewer system and from what I’m hearing from some friends/colleagues there many people are stranded. And if they do have more rain, which they may, it sounds like the drainage system hasn’t necessarily been fixed. Tech did not have classes today and neither did ATM in anticipation of Ike.

Lubbock is not made for human inhabitation, period.
Sorry, it’s a personal thing.

My bro's a Tech grad.
Sent me those pics. Unreal. But he said that apparently, they have state-of-the-art draining apparatuses (and yes, I looked it up, that’s the plural of apparatus). So we’ll see.

the apparatuses are not working
they had to have fire trucks from the city drain it so although it’s empty now, if it rains again, they might be in trouble. There is a 30% chance of rain there tonight and 60% tomorrow…
Release from Tech and more pictures here.
apparatuses is almost as good as syllabuses or syllabi, both are correct.

I've got 9 inches for you. (sorry, had to do it)...
And they better have some good drainage or this thing will look like a water polo match.

Single Day Rain Record
for Lubbock. Previous record was 5.7 inches. Official tally from LIA was 7.8 inches. It wasn’t that the stadium pump system didn’t work, it was that the city lines were just full. Pumps had to be turned off for fear of burning them out. Needless to say, this was a 100 year storm event, and the drainage system simply is not designed to handle that much rain in such a short time.

Field ready to go
as of late afternoon today. Fire dept helped pump out, and we haven’t got anymore rain today. People don’t realize that flat land is still at risk for flooding if the rain really comes down.
