I actually got to know Paul over a couple of years, as he frequented the Boston Chicken/Market I worked at while in high school. Ordered the same thing almost all days (came in every Thursday) wihch was a bowl of soup and a small container of stuffing. We had some pleasant conversations and I did meet his wife New Year’s Eve in 1993 as they came in to get some food for a quiet night at home. Always a pleasant man who never minded chatting with me about movies or his racing or anything.

Tebow had Murphy wide in the end zone, but underthrew it just enough for him to drop it. UF settles for a field goal, so it’s now 7-3 Ole Miss with 13:31 left in the 2nd quarter.

I know...the original plan called for beer #1 by GameDay
but then later this past week, I remembered I was supposed to work for about six hours, so that changed the plan. But, then I was smart and talked my way out of it, so I could be home, but I had started a bunch of small stuff around the house that needed to be finished. So, laundry is finally moving through and I can settle down to start drinking.

…reminds me of the high school football game I covered last night. Traditional smashmouth football. Of the 60 snaps that the winning team ran, 18 were fullback dives and 22 were rushes by the halfback. The opposing team knew what was coming and couldn’t stop it. Fun to watch.

…and allow me to quote the AP story from the Ole Miss/Florida game.

Michigan will win...I dont want to overstate it...
But this is a really nice win for Rich Rod. The Boy had it pegged…Wisconsin is decent but Everidge is still their QB and he could not hack it at kSU. This is not a signature win for Michigan, but this is a nice win, and BLOWS open the door for Penn State, especially if they can put a nice number on Illinois tonight because, let’s face it, the nation always wants a Big 10 team to be involved in the national title hunt.

Well, I was just conversing with my boss, who is an AP voter.
He said obviously it’s going to be a tough call this week, but that he sees it being REALLY, REALLY close as to who is No 1 between Bama and OU.
I mean, really, who has OU beaten? I’m not trying to poke the Sooners, because I think they’re legit, but…TCU? TCU = Clemson, and Bama kicked the crap out of Clemson on a neutral site.
And don’t discount another big factor: Bama’s doing this on national television, while OU’s doing it on regional television. Unless OU turns it up and puts a really impressive score up on TCU (a distinct possibility), you could be looking at No. 1 Alabama next week.

Not real sure what to make of it… TCU had a little bit of success on both sides of the ball at times, but OU got up early and never looked back. OU’s still the class of the Big XII, IMO.

…I think I picked 44-10, so it wasn’t quite as big a dominating score as I expected, but it was dominating enough.

hmm...
…just looked at the box score…not what I expected to see. Brown and Murray combined for 53 yards on 26 carries, but the big play worked well for OU. Manny Johnson had 203 yards receiving on just 5 catches, and three guys other than Johnson (Iglesias, Murray, Gresham) had receptions of at least 20 yards, and that was enough (along with 4 TCU turnovers) to get the job done despite no running game and 3 sacks. Not a dominant performance by the OU O-line, but the receivers came up big.
