A couple really interesting things.

I don’t necessarily understand why USC moves up to No. 1. I mean, I understand it, but I don’t understand what UGA did wrong. I suppose it’s a product of another offensive line injury, but that’s an awful severe penalty.

People are very bullish on Florida, which I guess is because the defense seemed pretty good against Hawaii. However, I’d like to go on record as saying I’m not convinced.

There is precisely no reason for OU to fall, outside of maybe to make room for Florida. And in that case, Florida should just stay there. OU looked damn near perfect.

A 12-spot jump for ’Bama? And two first-place votes? Color me unconvinced.

It’s refreshing to see that Mizzou has the second-lowest standard deviation. That presumably means that people believe Mizzou is still a good team, and last week’s defensive performance was either an aberration or a product of Juice Williams’ improvement.

A 5.2 standard deviation for Penn State. People have exactly no clue how good/not good they are.

Rock M Nation: fifth-most consistent ballot. I suppose there’s worse awards to win.

I'll try to speak for others:
I don’t necessarily understand why USC moves up to No. 1. I mean, I understand it, but I don’t understand what UGA did wrong.

I think this is a function of a lot of voters trying to ignore their initial polls. Thus, the No. 1 spot was never Georgia’s to lose in their eyes. Everyone starts fresh week-to-week, with SC apparently being the most impressive team after Week 1.

OU looked damn near perfect.

Word.

A 12-spot jump for ’Bama? And two first-place votes? Color me unconvinced.

I think this is a function of two things:
1. A lot of people (read: me) had Bama unranked. Thus, any ranking immediately becomes a jump.
2. Several voters are 100 percent loyal to resume ranking, no matter what. So, thus, they rank Bama’s win over Clemson as the first- or second-best win, thus putting them way up on the ballot.

It’s refreshing to see that Mizzou has the second-lowest standard deviation. That presumably means that people believe Mizzou is still a good team, and last week’s defensive performance was either an aberration or a product of Juice Williams’ improvement.

That stat surprised me. I saw a lot of people dropping Mizzou a spot or two because of the defensive struggles against Illinois. I was surprised to see Mizzou maintain its positioning.

By the way

Here’s the distribution of Mizzou votes:

Notes:
-Frank McGrath and Saurian Sagacity remain the low voters, with both bumping Mizzou up to No. 15 this week.
-Varsity Blue must not think highly of Illinois, as Mizzou drops 5 spots on their ballot
-Last week’s high voter, Garnet and Black Attack, is joined this week by Rakes of Mallow by putting Mizzou at No. 2. Rakes of Mallow is a well-noted resume ranker, thus ranking Mizzou’s win over Illinois as the second most impressive of the weekend behind Bama’s win over Clemson.

Garnet and Black Attack.

Seems to me, based on what I’m reading, that they have their own very (ahem) unique way of polling. Touchdown handshakes to them for being the second-least biased when it comes to South Carolina, but it’s awful odd to see North Carolina at No. 15 on their ballot.
