Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

National Duals: Day 1

Not going to be around too much today as home improvement is calling, but the action is already underway up at the University of Northern Iowa.  Live results are getting posted to Intermat.com today, and that is where I will be getting my information each time I get a chance.  Mizzou started off with Penn State this morning, and some interesting moves have already been seen from Coach Smith.  Keep your eye on this post/thread today, as I will post my updates here.

Star-divide

10:00 a.m. - Mizzou finds itself in a pretty decent hole already this morning to be honst.  Troy Dolan went out and lost a decision 12-7 which did not appear to be as close as the score would dictate.  At 133, Tyler Crane took the mat instead of Todd Schavrien, and got tech'ed by this opponent 17-2, putting Mizzou down 8-0 early.  Marcus Hoehn then did what he has done all season and won his match, an 8-4 decision to put Mizzou on the board 8-3.  Then, instead of Andrew Sherry, Brandon Weist took the mat against #2 Bubba Jenkins, and suffered a first round pin, now putting Mizzou down 14-3.  Mizzou really needs a win here to stay in this one without having to depend on bonus points later.  Chandler is on the mat now with Vallimont and has lost a 3-1 decision, making the score 17-3 halfway through.  Mizzou is really going to need some big wins to pull this one out.

Henderson falls 11-5, but Askren wins 15-2

Score stands Penn State 20, Mizzou 16 headed to the final match…Ellis needing at least a tech fall to win it…not sure what happens if he majors and ties. Penn State’s wrestler (Cameron Wade) is unranked

3rd period will start tied at 2-2

Wade will start on bottom…Ellis pretty much needs to stick him at this point

Ellis picks up a point for Wade's stalling, leads 3-2

however that will not help Mizzou at this point

Ellis rode Wade for almost 3 minutes

But could not get his back…wins the match 4-2, but Mizzou will LOSE 20-19…the bonus points at 133 and 149 REALLY hurting them.

Northwestern will be their next opponent, having lost a squeaker to Nebraska 19-18. That should be at 1pm or so…will try to circle back and cover that a bit later.

Wow...

You said previewing the second round was the jinx of all jinxes. Mission accomplished, I guess.

Alright...match vs. Northwestern

Dolan loses a 9-2 decision to #3 Precin, so really not a bad result
Tyler Crane wrestling again at 133 and lost 7-1, so Mizzou is currently down 6-0.

  1. Hoehn vs. #16 Sulzer should be a good one at 141
Sherry vs. unranked Nadhir at 149
  2. Chandler vs. #17 Welch another good one at 157
Dorian Henderson will have to wrestle #1 Jake Herbert (who is STILL around, was the first person Ben Askren beat for a national title) at 184.

No one else on NW is ranked.

Hoehn with a full 2nd period ride wins 2-0

Hoehn rode Sulzer for the full two minutes, then escaped in the third for a point. The long ride gave him the riding time point, and he wins the match 2-0. Mizzou is down 6-3 currently. Another real nice win for Hoehn.

Sherry with a major decision victory, Mizzou up 7-6

Chandler is up 4-2 in the third, a win here would give Mizzou a nice lead considering their strength the rest of the way out.

And I am sure this match is long over, but the website I was following the results on is down…

Mizzou did win this dual 25-12

Henderson was pinned in the first period by #1 Herbert, but everyone else for Mizzou won, including Dom Bradley at HWY. They should be wrestling the #3 Cornell and #6 Ohio State right now…but I do not have that info, as the site was overloaded and has not kept up at all today since the early bouts.

yup, quadruple jinx accomplished...

Mizzou fell behind Ohio State, 19-0, after four matches, and couldn’t make up the difference, losing 23-19. Mizzou bows out of the duals with a 1-2 record. Massively disappointing result…caused partly by major struggles in the lower weight classes and partly by the RMN quadruple jinx from earlier in the week.
