The Big Twelve's passing offenses are overrated
"This brings us to the biggest fraud of them all... Chase Daniel. A friend of mine has a connection with some NFL scouts. He told me that the scouts came to watch Daniel's backup instead of Chase. Daniel appears to be out of shape and is the only QB in this group who is close to wearing a size 40 pant."
I can get on board with his general premise that offenses in the Big 12 benefited from poor defenses to an extent, but there's just so much I disagree with here (i.e. measuring a college player's value by how he'll perform in the NFL, or measuring a conference by the number of QBs drafted) that I just had to share.

I don't want to rip this apart, because he obviously did a lot of legwork...
…but the fact that he is pooh-poohing away the strength of the Big 12 WRs is absolutely, 100% laughable and should discredit every single word.
The Big 12 is, without a doubt, the strongest WR conference in the nation, and the only mention he makes of it is:
So, maybe these Defensive Coordinators don’t play aggressively because they respect the opposition’s receivers?
This might have some merit this year, as Crabtree and Dez Bryant have been studs for the Big12, and Maclin is a nice all-purpose player. Still, the Big12 has had only ONE first round receiver in the past 4 years.
So not only are you going to hammer away at the conference’s quarterbacks based on the past generations of QBs (OK…) and small sample sizes (in bowl games, no less), but then you are going to refuse to give credit where credit is due to the absurd talent of the people who catch the ball? Really?
If you want to say that the Big XII quarterbacks are overrated, there’s some merit there: certainly the gaudy numbers are overblown due to struggling defenses.
But to say that the "Big Twelve [sic] passing offenses] are overrated is an absolute joke. Crabtree, Bryant, Maclin, Briscoe, Cosby, Shipley, Iglesias are all among the nation’s elite receivers, and if you want to include TEs in there (Coffman, Gresham, Pettigrew), you have the best receiving corps in the country, bar none.
Daniel, McCoy, Harrell, Bradford, Robinson overrated? Maybe. But the Big XII passing offenses? Please.
"Please. What the hell do you know about starting a sports-related website and then deciding to leave it to work on other things and then? How dare you, sir." -- Michael Schur, aka FireJoeMorgan's Ken Tremendous, to Will Leitch

The part that really got me was pointing to a lack of success in the NFL
That is a very short-sighted way of measuring college success. The game has always been different at the professional and collegiate levels, even more so in recent years with the spread offense explosion. I don’t believe the spread translates well to the NFL (though my Chiefs were damn set on running it last year, which was kind of fun in spite of the lack of wins)…defenses are just too athletic and quick at along the defensive line, and you have just as good athletes in the secondary and at linebacker as you do at WR, TE, and RB in the pros.
But in college, these quarterbacks were very successful because the spread DOES work in college. Why diminish that?

If we're drawing conclusions from bowl games...
…then the Big 12 North is better than the Big 12 South, and the Pac 10 is the best conference in the country.
In other words, how’s about we hold off on drawing too many conclusions based on bowl games alone, huh?
