Jeremy Maclin: Going Pro.

Just said so at his press conference.

UPDATE, rptgwb: I had to add the photo from the season countdown...

Let me be the first to say ...

… good luck J-Mac! Make us proud.

And in truth, this might be better for the program in the long run. If he goes off in the NFL, then that might make a couple future J-Macs out there consider Mizzou. And surely it’ll help in St. Louis if he does well in the league.

of course...

…if he’d stayed one more year, THEN torn up the league, it would have had the same impact, only we’d have gotten him for another year. :-)

Really, the only problem I have with all of this is that we were gypped out of one more year of watching #9 play…you’re set up to get three years with these guys, and we only got two thanks to the knee injury…

Here's something for your "What If" files:

What if he’s able to play in 2006?

Didn't we look at that at some point?

Not in an actual post, but in a roundtable or something? I think the answer was, “We still lose to Nebraska and OU but we probably beat ATM and ISU.” But I guess I could look at recruiting from that year and maybe see if we’d have gotten a teeny tiny recruiting boost from a 10-3/11-2 season heading into 2007 or something…

Godspeed.

Loved watching the guy play.

I agree that it’s probably the best thing for the program if instead of staying, he’s able to make a significant impact at the next level.

Jeremy Maclin, you are a man.

Good for him.

Now just don’t get drafted to the Packers or Vikings so I can continue to enjoy watching you play.

It has been a pleasure.

I will miss seeing JMAC catch a short slant, put on the burners, and run past the safeties all the way to the house.

Anyone have a favorite Maclin moment? I’d say mine was probably the kickoff return for a TD against KState last year (or maybe that whole game, he was brilliant).

Wouldn’t mind if he fell to #18 and my Chicago Bears…although, I’m not sure I want to wish our QB play on him. Still, it would be fun to chant MIZ every Sunday when he makes a catch ( I got to do that a bit with Justin Gage, but not too often)…

The return against Illinois this year.

Perhaps the biggest single momentum shift I’ve ever felt.

Top Moments

In chronological order:

- The punt return against Illinois in 2007
- The untouched return against Illinois State
- A hell of a performance in a loss in Norman
- The late catch and run TD against Tech
- Torching the CU Cover 1 over the top in Boulder
- Torching the KSU Whatever the Hell That Defense Was on Chase’s scrambling TD in Manhattan
- The 98-yard kick return TD that preceded it (setting the freshman record for all-purpose yardage in the process)
- Watching him draw three defenders in Dallas as Tony Temple ran free to the opposite side of the field all day against Arkansas

- The kick return against Illinois to swing momentum back (Pasch: "Jeremy Maclin, says I’ve got a little something for ya!")
- The PA F Slide catch and run early against Nevada
- Doing the EXACT same thing in Lincoln against Nebraska
- His HUGE day against K-State on a senior day where we all knew it was his final home game
- The return against Northwestern, perhaps the biggest single momentum shift I’ve ever felt.
- His final offensive play: A touchdown pass from Chase Daniel, the way it should be.

He said in the bowl post-game press conference that his biggest memory of his career will be that he caught the last pass of Chase Daniel’s career for a touchdown.

Which, ironically...

… was one huge mistake.

Not only did Chase bobble the snap and essentially just shut put it in Maclin’s direction, but J-Mac was apparently supposed to be running a bubble screen.

No, going to the Bears

Would be great…a receiver with his hands and speed, with two TE’s and a RB that can fly? Orton would coast with that.

I'm the guy that keeps Mr. Death in his pocket.

I've been championing Maclin to my Bears brethern for months now

Seriously, anybody who thinks Orton sucks needs to see what he can do with an actual offensive weapon at WR before they come to that conclusion.

Orton had a great 1st half of the season and a bad 2nd half of the season...

that said, yes, a real WR threat would help any QB. The jury is still out on Orton in my opinion, but he has shown some signs that he can be an at least above average QB for the beloved. Here’s to hoping he is that and much more.

Personal Favorite

The play at Nebraska is the most memorable for me…for the sole reason that I jumped off of my couch, dropped the remote, and accidentally hit the previous channel button. Fortunately I had been having problems with the HD channel earlier, so the channel changed to the non-HD broadcast and I still got to see him cross the goal line.

he is awesome.

His decision is totally understandable, and I will miss him in a mizzou uniform. However, hopefully he will do well in the NFL.

a bittersweet moment

you know this guy’s going to kill in the pros, but i’ll miss him nonetheless.

i’m going to continue the trend with either the Illinois return for a TD this year (because of the momentum shift and because he obviously heard the announcers talking upset, and he responded by shushing them as he ran into the endzone) or the catch for a TD in overtime in the Alamo Bowl. i know it was a blown play, but they both did exactly what you’re supposed to do on a blown play, andit was nice to get a little flash of the real Chase Daniel – Jeremy Maclin pair to end both of their Tiger careers.

best of luck, J-Mac. we’re gonna miss you.

I am shocked, SHOCKED to find out

that there’s gambling going on in this establishment Maclin is going pro!

Seriously, as much as I would have selfishly loved to have watched him for another season (or two), he’s ready to go pro. I would have made the same decision if I were him. Best of luck, Jeremy, you made us proud.

From the bottom of my heart, Thank you for picking Missouri.

This photo HAS to lead off the next Mizzou Links, right?

Great stuff from the Tribune’s Nick King, posted over at Behind the Stripes.

Favorite Moment

This year’s KU game. Yeah, the final product for the team was sucktastic. But Daniel was having a rough day, Coffman was severely hobbled, and Saunders was the only other receiver who could catch a ball. KU was obviously keying on Maclin. He still had 9 catches for 123 and a 30 yard TD catch. My memory may be obscured through the fog of anger in which I watched the second half of that game, but it seemed that this is when it truly dawned on me that this isn’t just a speed guy – this was a true #1 wide receiver. He caught everything in his area code (and it was necessary seeing what happened to Daniel in the season’s second half), including a leaping “hang out to dry” pass that resulted in a hit whirlybirding him through the air. He did his characteristic hobble off the field injured bit – and returned two plays later, at it again.
