So, not only did Missouri fans not threaten the lives of these Husker fans, they were, gasp, actually courteous to them?

I guess that means that only 99 percent of Nebraska message board posters have felt scared for their lives in Columbia.

That was a great story!

I saw this all tailgate long.

We invited about 5 NU fans under our canopy and the person next to us did the same. These people were just slowly walking around completely drenched.

I spent the last hour before the game/and at the half giving these NU fans beer and brats, because dang it was cold and nasty out. (and we had too much beer and brats)

Too bad I feel this story will not do well over in the papers in Nebraska land, it would suggest a semi-good light of a fan base other than NU. This can not happen.

I was finishing my beer just outside of the stadium before the game started and I personally went to an extra effort to greet Nebraska fans that passed by me. I shook a whole lot of hands before I finally got to my seat. Fuck yes I will try to out nice you, Nebraska fans.

Yeah, I've always maintained

that outside of a few drunks, overzealous students and the Antlers, Mizzou fans are just as friendly as the rest. It is quite refreshing to see someone acknowledge the friendlyness that I think most fans exhibit. Add to the fact that, while this can become a great rivalry, it will always be 2nd to Kansas, where there is true hatred.

I think that Nebraska (like all schools) has its share of idiots and assholes, but most of the ones I deal with, either here or online are okay people, and I’ll pull for Nebraska outside the Big 12 (sometimes).

I think that Mizzou fans really mirror our opponent's fans

If the other fan gives us the air that he’s respectful of our traditions and is there to just support his team, and not take us down, we will do whatever we can to ensure he has a good time. Maybe a little friendly ribbing, but when the other guy has a good sense of humor, it becomes fun.

If the other fan is talking trash and being disrespectful, we will give it back to him. If a guy is kinda rude, we will come down hard on him and try to put him in his place. It’s a factor of a little insecurity that we gained over the last 25 years.

In other words, most of the people who claim treated them poorly probably deserve it.

I would agree with that

I went to a minor league hockey game in Fresno one time, an elimination game in the old Taylor Cup playoffs. Anyhow, not any San Diego fans made the trip and seating was general admission, so needless to say I ended up in a section full of Fresno fans. I came back from smoking at intermission and some guy comes up to me and starts telling me how much he hates San Diego, the people, the fans, the team, the city, etc. I was somewhat intoxicated (my buddy and I drank a case of beer in the parking lot before the game) and my friend had to hold me back because I was going to kick his ass. In another part of the arena, some Fresno fans dumped beer all over some San Diego fans.

I’ll never go to Fresno ever again, it’s a nasty city with nasty people and it would take alot to change my opinion about that, but I don’t think that all Fresno people are that way.

25 years is a long time to suck. I think the core of the fans (not the bandwagoners, of which there are plenty) are good people who respect our opponents and their fans.

I want to come to Columbia to a game. Obviously, this year wasn’t going to work – it being a Thursday night game, but the year after next I’m getting my ass down there.

The only negative thing I’ve ever heard was from a friend at the ‘97 game. Said at the end that a Missouri female fan next to him turned and said "Don’t you have some cows to tend to?" right after we scored in overtime, which was actually pretty damned funny.

Other than that, I’ve haven’t ever heard anything negative about your fan base from people I know that have gone to games down there.

..i am not calling you a liar. but, i know for a fact that mizzou fan bashing goes on. i saw a group of wet nebraska fans at the game and we sat peacefully the entire game with casual conversation. however, after nu scored 13 straight and went up 13-12 they proceeded to chant SCOREBOARD. to which i replied “the power is out on the scoreboard you morons.” and then moved sections.

..i am just ranting now really. this is less a reply than a new post.

Try traveling for baseball as a Mizzou fan...

Places that are ok to go to: K-State, OU, UT, BU
Places where you need some armor: A&M, Tech, NU
Places where you need full fledged bodygards: K*****, Ok St.

But considering I am not very quiet during baseball games, I may not have the best perspective.

There is a God and I'm not it, after that EVERYTHING is subjective. Be careful for what you wish for, you just might GET IT!

I have a friend from OSU who was complaining about a really vocal Mizzou fan at the Big 12 Tourney one year…I’m pretty sure I know who he may have been talking about… :-)
