Love the full quote. Love the movie.

Kirk Lazarus: Check it out. Dustin Hoffman, ‘Rain Man,’ look retarded, act retarded, not retarded. Counted toothpicks, cheated cards. Autistic, sho’. Not retarded. You know Tom Hanks, ‘Forrest Gump.’ Slow, yes. Retarded, maybe. Braces on his legs. But he charmed the pants off Nixon and won a ping-pong competition. That ain’t retarded. Peter Sellers, “Being There.” Infantile, yes. Retarded, no. You went full retard, man. Never go full retard. You don’t buy that? Ask Sean Penn, 2001, “I Am Sam.” Remember? Went full retard, went home empty handed.

Psychological edge?

Their quarterback was in eighth grade the last time Nebraska won in Columbia.

If you want to say they’re embracing the underdog/disrespect/revenge mentality, that’s fine. I’ll understand and respect that. But saying that’s a “psychological advantage” is flat out stupid.

by RPT on Oct 2, 2009 8:28 AM CDT reply actions

Exactly...because last time I checked

No one on the team has won a game in Columbia.

And they’ve lost 4 out of 6 against us as a program as well.

So I’m still struggling with this psychological advantage.

Sounds a bit like Charlie Weis’s “Schematic advantage.” We all know how well that’s worked.

That article about Jerrod Johnson baffles me

I mean, yeah, the kid’s numbers are pretty gaudy, but look at who he’s played against. The point at which he hangs 300+ yards on an actual team is the point at which I’ll start being impressed.

I'm with William Quantrill. Go Missouri, beat Kansas.

by jaeger on Oct 2, 2009 10:09 AM CDT reply actions

that starts this week...sort of...

…I mean, the Arkansas defense is far from great, but they’re at least fast. Will see what they can do against a defense with more speed than Utah State’s…

It should be noted...

… that the guy that wrote that article about Jerrod for SI is also a columnist for TexAgs.com.

Although there isn’t a massive conflict of interest, it’d be like if me or Bill wrote something extolling a Missouri player. We may be justified in our own minds, but there’s still going to be some skepticism about our judgment.

Oh, and congratulations to kansas Coach Mangino

who is either having a grandchild today, or had one yesterday.

He’s on the L&D floor this morning, as we’re waiting for our daughter to be born.

My comments posted about the Keep a lid on it story...

This story reads just like the one you wrote about “spitgate” last year Mr. McKewon; like a junior high school paper, he said she said piece. You are in your element however; the comment section isn’t too far behind. Larry, you’re old school retired military and I’m sure there are many more classy Husker fans like you in Nebraska. But your generation is dying, along with NU’s reputation of having classy fans.

Yeah, the "Keep a lid on it" story sure is sounding like an Oklahoma disrespect journey
