Saturday, he put on one of the greatest one-man receivers shows I have ever seen in college football. It wasn't just the numbers, though the numbers were plenty good -- 10 catches, 200 yards, three touchdowns.
No, it was the show. In the second quarter, with the scored tied 3-3, Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert lofted a high pass -- it looked almost like a Hail Mary pass -- in the direction of Alexander, who leaped up, hip-checked the Kansas State safety in mid-air, took the ball away, landed on his feet and ran in for a 54-yard touchdown. It was Randy Moss stuff.
Then there was the pass Alexander caught over the middle. He ran a couple of steps, then suddenly stopped, pivoted (holding himself up with his hand), ran the opposite direction to get some extra yards. It was Terrell Owens stuff.
Later, he caught a 12-yard pass over the middle, eluded the safety and hit max-speed. At least three Kansas State players had clear angles on him -- but none caught him. He went 80 yards for the touchdown, the fourth time this season he has caught a touchdown pass longer than 70 yards. That's Larry Fitzgerald stuff.
The best sportswriter in America right now gives some love to arguably the best wide receiver in America right now.

That's spectacular.
I can’t wait to watch the recording of this game when I go to my parents’ this week – I was in Kirksville this weekend, where apparently they don’t get Versus. Listened to it on the radio, which was great (nice to get calling from Mike Kelly instead of the jackasses who normally call games on TV), but seeing Danario in person is worth it 100%.
And you ain’t kidding about Posnanski being the best sportswriter in America. I love his writings about baseball, and when he writes about Mizzou it’s like Christmas. Glad to see him showing our man 81 some love.
And, you know, I wish he hadn’t been hurt all those times, but if he’s at full speed, he’s gone pro already, and thank God we’ve still got him this year. Hope he keeps this up – he may work his way back up to a first round draft pick.
I'm with William Quantrill. Go Missouri, beat Kansas.

could you imagine having a healthy DA and J-Mac for the full '07 season?
we probably would’ve beaten OU. at least once.

Don't get me wrong, I would have LOVED a healthy DA81 in 2007...
… but I’m not going to say he was the reason MU lost to Oklahoma. A quick list of things even a healthy DA can’t do:
- Keep Pig Brown from dropping a pick in Norman. Keep Auston English from having a field day in MU’s backfield.
-
- Cover Gresham Keep a freak bounce from going off of Rucker’s hands to Curtis Lofton in San Antonio
-
— Keep Chris Brown from bowling over MU defenders in the second half of either game
But, sweet lord I would have loved to have seen what he could have done for more than just the Kansas game.
