University of Missouri senior linebacker Sean Weatherspoon (Jasper, Texas) has been named the Lott Trophy IMPACT Player of the Week, for his outstanding performance in last Saturday's 36-17 win at Colorado. Weatherspoon led an impressive defensive performance for Mizzou, with a game-high 12 tackles as the Tigers held Colorado to negative-14 yards rushing overall, and just 176 yards of total offense in the win.
Weatherspoon had a huge play in the fourth quarter when he made a stop for a loss on a CU 4th-and-1 attempt from the MU 13-yardline. With the Buffaloes trying to close the margin to just one score (MU led, 33-17 at the time), Weatherspoon burst through the line to tackle Colorado RB Rodney Stewart for a two-yard loss to give the ball back to the Tigers. He also had four of his tackles in the fourth quarter as the Tigers maintained their lead to notch a Big 12 road win which kept them in contention for their third consecutive Big 12 North Division title.

Man, I love Spoon, but
I don’t know if he was the best defensive player in that game. Spoon made a ton of tackles but his only real “impact play” was that 4th down stop. Aldon made big plays, a couple guys caused turnovers, Jacquies even caught a TD pass … I just don’t know.
[now hiding under my desk for fear Spoon will come and thrash me]
Can you really call Smith’s TD a “pass?”

Sure the entire defensive unit did pretty darn good against CU(nods to Smith/Smith/Coulter, and many others), but in terms of perhaps a high leverage play, the 4th down stop must have been pretty high on the list.
oh, yeah, and SPOOOON !11
