Memphis coach Lionel Hollins relayed a great story before Wednesday night’s loss to Atlanta. The Grizzlies were mired in a 1-8 start and the team was sitting in a film session. Hollins told the players they had to run it and walked out of the room. What happened? Rookie DeMarre Carroll stepped up, went through the tape and called out everyone on where they were making mistakes. Hollins said that in retrospect, it was better that it was Carroll and not one of the starters, because it would have been the case of the pot calling the kettle black. Instead, the Grizzlies got some religion on the defensive mistakes that had plagued them in the early part of the season. While this is still no defensive juggernaut -- Memphis ranks 29th in Defensive Efficiency -- its D has been much-improved in winning nine of the past 16 games.
