One All-America team is out...
No Danario. Their first-team receivers:
Mardy Gilyard (75 catches, 1,032 yards, 10 TD)
Golden Tate (93 catches, 1,496 yards, 15 TD)
As a refresher, Danario: 107 catches, 1,644 yards, 13 TD. And yes, I will be doing this for every AA team that comes out until somebody makes Domino Axelrod an All-American.

Big names win awards?
Shocking. Franklin Gutierrez feels Danario’s pain.
Chicago White Sox Examiner — I wish I could cuss right now.
If names won All American awards
Golden Tate would easily get in, no doubt.
I mean, c’mon – Golden Tate? It just screams awesome football name.

Is that his real name?
because how arrogant as a parent do you have to be to name your kid “Golden?”

yeah, his birth name.
I know people go by a nickname all the time – that’s normal. But if this is the name his parent’s named him….
Well at least he has this

mardy gilyard knocked over a small child.
that is not All-American if you ask me.

"inflated" is a term I have seen on the internet
To explain DA’s numbers. People claim the offense inflates them. I took the stats from espn on rushing and passing attempts for this year and adjusted Gilyard’s numbers (Tate’s were very comparable). Cinch ran 18% less plays than ND and MU. Mizzou passed on a lower percentage of downs than either ND or Cincy.
DA – 107,1644,13
MG – 91*,1253*,12*
GT – 93,1496,15

And think about what these numbers could
Have been without the monsoon like conditions against Nebraska.

and the "had a one-legged, inaccurate QB for three games" condition...

Quarterbacks mattter too
I think voters needs to take into consideration who is throwing the passes to these receivers as well. Tony Pike who is throwing to Mardy, is a senior who has thrown 23TD/3INT and completed 65% of his passes. Clausen who is throwing to Golden, is a junior starting for his third year and he has throwing 28TD/4INT and completed 68% of his passes. Gabbert, on the other hand, is as sophomore starting for the first time and he has thrown 23TD/7INT and completed less than 60% of his passes. Given this reality I’d say that Alexander would have BETTER numbers if he played for Cincy or ND.
The voters never consider these factors, however. I mean look at the Heisman. Is there any seasoned quarterback that wouldn’t thrive at Florida or Texas? Put either Daniel or Gabbert in Austin/Talahassee and I bet they get numbers that are equal to or better than Tebow/McCoy. This is particularly true of Tebow. Consider the time that the two of them get in the pocket, the receivers that surround them, and the ground games that open up the passing games.
To me the true measure of an athlete is how good he is IN SPITE of what surrounds him. Moreover, if you can get superior/similar numbers at Missouri compared with those at traditional powers, chances are your a better player.
you mean Gainesville not Tallahassee.

Hence Zack Greinkes' 09 season will go down as epic
with so little run support, such a poor defense behind him, and he actually had to face powerful offenses while other SPs from the AL got some gimme wins pitching against the Royals.
I am just glad Cy Young voters are starting to seem more educated in “the numbers”, than other voting committees. ( I am looking at you Belinta-wrong Award committee)

Greinke to Domino is really a good connection
though Domino does play for a slightly better team.
" If I had a gun on a boat I would shoot you right here, right now"
EXACTLY...
And this phenomena of awarding the Heisman/AP accolades to the best player on the #1 team in the country (or the #2,3,4,5…) is exactly why so many of these touted players flop in the NFL. They’re really not that exceptional, they’re just surrounded by exceptional talent. Tebow is the perfect example. He’s being heralded as the best quarterback since the creation of football and, yet, there is absolutely no team interested in him playing behind center. The St. Louis Rams’ Jackson is a perfect example of the opposite. He was relatively unheralded and last until almost the second round and, yet, he’s one of the best backs in the NFL. Where is Mr. McFadden?
Mr. McFadden
is in the perpetual talent-suck void that is an Al Davis franchise. I lived in AR when he was down there, and the talent on those Razorback teams was anything but exceptional. This is the same team that gave us
and outside of that was probably most famous for this:

Jacob Skinner, the punter, would perform this sun-god yoga exercise prior to every kick. It worked pretty well… but he’s not in the league. There were some fringe talent guys and some guys that got a little bit of run in the league (Marcus Monk, Tony Ugoh, Shawn Andrews, to name a couple… and FB Peyton Hillis, admittedly a hoss), but I would hesitate to compare the talent level of those Hogs teams with anything above what the Tigers have at this time.

Who cares about NFL success in the realm of college football?
I’m sorry Danny Wuerffel couldn’t win in the NFL. Doesn’t mean he wasn’t an outstanding college football player.

exactly.
it’s the same in college basketball, where tyler hansbrough was in incredible player but isn’t expected to do as much in the nba. no one would say he was only good because of his team (although they were pretty darn good), but his style of play and body type just aren’t expected to translate well.
a lot of college football players are able to get away with hustle and football smarts in college, but their lack of size or wrong body type gets overexposed in the nfl.
capital letters suck.

right....
and in no small part because the NFL seems to have a ubiquitous offensive type system. Sure I know I am going out on a limb here with that statement, but there really doesn’t seem to be vastly different offenses in the NFL.
Maybe here is where I reviel my total lack of football knowledge but…

True
With so much being made of coaching pedigree (Bill Walsh’s, for ex), it’s not surprising. Coordinators that get hired are position coaches that worked for coordinators that won all the time.
Think back…the West Coast was revolutionary at the time, but now most teams run it. Now it’s the “Wildcat.” There was also the Run and Shoot, which is really just the Spread that MU runs….hell, the wing-T was actually invented, though I ran it in Middle school.
Regardless, there are a fair amount of active head coaches that run a Walsh’s offense, or the Tampa-2 on defense…for no other reason as its worked.

Good point.
Alexander deserves to be recognized this year.
