Is this Sumlin's last game?

I cannot decide how I feel about his possibly moving to kU…

I'm more scared of Sumlin than I would be of somebody like Edsall, I think.

Just because of youth, Texas ties, offensive prowess, etc.

yeah...

…he’s apparently 45.

He’s also apparently a midwestern/Purdue guy, which I didn’t know. He’d be rumored for every Big Ten job that came open, I’d assume. (Speaking of which, I’m not sure why he hasn’t been rumored for every Big Ten job already…)

So I have had two "WOW!" moments so far this morning

Dion Lewis of Pitt.

I realize Matt Millen may be prone to over-exaggeration, but I see a lot of Barry in this young man. A LOT. What Pitt did with their first drive with him was just old-school. Good hands out the backfield, understands how to chip and pick up a blitz as well. Is on pace to carry the ball roughly 50-odd times today.

John Wall of Kentucky

Turned over to CBS to see a little in between quarters of Pitt/Cincy. In a three possession segment, he grabbed a defensive board, went the length of the court, was 2 on 2. Made a move on his guy in the lane and just EXPLODED to the hoop for a two-handed dunk. On the third possession, he ran the floor, was 1 on 2, got to the bucket and went up and under for the amazing finish.

Both freshman (though obviously Wall will be a pro next year while college football gets to enjoy Lewis for two more seasons). Great stuff

Cincy benefits from that terribly called rule on hitting WR's over the middle

Pitt takes 12 plays on each drive…Cincy moves down field real quick and is on the two after another bad call on the Pitt secondary.

yes...if you can just jump straight the final four

but since it is only December, I would think they need to develop SOME bench…even if it is 3 guys who can play about 10 min. per game…totally agree on their starting 5, but they will need some help down the road.

Cincy punter just cost his team 5 points

was REALLY slow in getting the kick away, and gets it blocked. Goes back to get it on the 2 and has time to pick it up with not many people around him. SHOULD have thrown it out of the back of the endzone, but picked it up and ran around with it, going nowhere and giving it to Cincy on the 3.

SHOULD be 26-10 coming up on the end of the half. Instead, it is 24-10 with Pitt knocking on the door of a 3-score lead.

Cincy showing good resolve though…pushing Pitt to 3rd and goal.

Lewis has 26 for 100…IN THE HALF.

Stull gets in on the QB keeper on the end. 31-10

I’m shocked they haven’t solved that yet. I suppose it’s just too hard to find a suitable midway site that would draw a ton of fans. Maybe a beefed up Texas Bowl at Reliant Stadium, or something at Jerry World?

by MissouriMarine on Dec 5, 2009 3:11 PM CST up reply actions

yup, geography is the biggest problem...

…Pac-10 teams don’t tend to travel well, anyway, especially not across 2-3 time zones. And why would the SEC or any more eastern conferences change what they have since a) they can draw a ton to more local locales, and b) the current system works out pretty well for them, to say the least. I’d love for bowls to be picked on merit instead of travel/attendance, but I can’t exactly blame bowls for picking things the way they do. Money = survival.

by shaffe on Dec 5, 2009 3:38 PM CST up reply actions

yes, but that is not how these awards work

Bill C and I have talked about how Ressel is in REALLY good shape to win the award because of the season he had this year and that it put him VERY quickly on the map. More often than not (and I am not saying it is right), these awards are based on the previous year’s body of work. Ressel, with another season or two is really damn near a shoe-in to win it as a senior because he already is on the map

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J. Jasper Howard had his little sisters' names tatooed on his chest. His friends say it was a constant reminder of why he was at U Conn _ to provide his family with a better life than the one he had in Miami's Little Haiti. (AP Photo/Mel Evans, File) link
