Nutts!

Houston Nutt isn’t all he’s cracked up to be (no pun intended). He never could deliver on the promise of excellence that was (perhaps overblown) touted in Fayetteville, and we’ve seen the DREAM SEASON in Oxford fall flat (8-4 and a Cotton Bowl is NOT what Hotty Totty was yellin’ about). He’s been livin’ off of Orgeron’s recruits the last two seasons…the honeymoon down in Ole Miss will disappear in a few seasons when he has to bring in his own boys and they start showing up to Music City and (gasp!) Liberty Bowls (if they bo bowling at all). Need I remind you that losing the Egg Bowl is on par with Mizzou losing to Kansas…only worse.
That said, I’d like to see him make the move. I’m not a fan of Ole Miss (received my graduate there and was not pleased) nor Kansas (can’t spend four years at Mizzou and like the Chickenhawks), so why not screw up two programs with one move? I’m good with it. Although we all know the liklihood of this happening is slim.

In my opinion, they couldn't ask to do better than Gill

If they don’t hire him, I seriously doubt they’ll get anyone better.

^^^what he said

you get Turner Gill some recruiting pull and I’m immediately scared of what he could do.

I'm skeptical on this one...

Nutt has a history of having his name floated around in connection to job openings only to see a nice pay bump at his current institution. Wondering if this is more a leverage play.

Curiously though, Bill Self and Houston Nutt are cousins.

I...learned something today.

Thanks, Denver!

Yeah, this is my guess.

Whereas Stoops has gotten the “flirts with others for a better contract” reputation through very little of his own doing, Nutt seems to have earned his reputation. Honestly, if I were a KU fan*, I’d be worried about him bolting from the moment he stepped on campus. But I doubt this ends up happening, anyway.

Or just a straight-up, one-day trade? :-)

my thought...

was a straight up one day trade…April first would seem appropriate.

So

What’s better for Mizzou fans? Nutt or Gill?

In my uneducated opinion

Houston Nutt will make kansas competitive, but will never turn them into anything special. Maybe a North title every now and then, but they’ll never get to the next step. Basically, Houston Nutt is a known entity.

Turner Gill has the potential to be a great coach and a great recruiter. What he has been able to do in Buffalo has been impressive, even if they were under .500 this year. He’s got connections all over this part of the country and is respected. Obviously, it could all be hype, and he might not be cut out for a BCS conference, but he has a much higher upside.

by Andy--01 on Dec 8, 2009 10:01 AM CST up reply actions

Also

Nutt is a known jumper, so expecting him to stay with the program long-term would/should be low. Especially considering the loss of talent.

Gill has youth, connections, and an up-and-coming, which can also make for a short-term deal, if you consider kU to be a “basketball school” at the expense of football. though Lawrence is updating their facilities, is that enough to keep a coach, that if successful, may jump ship to a more football oriented program.

basically, both fail in year one and two, but I would think Nutt has a bit better chance to excel in year three (when OU and UT not on schedule). Then Nutt leaves.

Actually, year 1 and 2 have no OU/UT

The next 2 years are the same as their 2006/07 schedules. The 3rd year, is when OU and UT show up.

Sad news

From the WWLthat Nutt isn’t interested (which means he has the job already)…
