The ladies are in the process of finishing a weeknd sweep of the tournament down in Florida, where they have been absolutely dominant over the field. This morning, they are taking on the Providence Friars
Freshman Kristen Nottelmann got the call on the hill, and performed just as all Mizzou pitchers have so far this season. She threw 4 innings of shutout ball, spraying 4 hits and a walk while striking out 2. She got out of a 2-on, 1-out situation in the first without giving up a run, as well as a bases loaded, 2-out situation in the 4th. Junior Jana Hainey has come on since and given up 1 hit over 2 innings of work while striking out another Friar.
At the dish, Mizzou has used 6 hits to generate 5 runs. Each batter 3-7 in the lineup has an RBI.
Mizzou has a home double-header with SLU on Wednesday before heading west for a VERY competitive weekend in San Diego. They will take on San Diego, San Diego State, Santa Clara, Oregon (receiving votes) and #6 UCLA (Sunday at 11am)
There are two outs in the bottom of the last, as Hainey is preparing to finish off her 3rd inning of work to give Mizzou their 8th straight win to start the 2009 campaign. And as I type that, she retires the side in order and Mizzou completes their domination of the FAU Tournament with their 4th shutout in 5 games. The team has outscored their opponents on the season 54-5 with 5 shutouts in 8 games, 3 of which were run-ruled. Impressive start to say the least.
