Mizzou Links, 2-6-09
Late start this morning...oh well, huh?
First things first: get well soon, Mike Kelly. Mizzou's got one of the neatest, most unique play-by-play men in the country, and I hope he's feeling better soon.
Now...remember that Texas win? It was great, right? Now it's over--time to get ready for tomorrow's trip to Ames, where Mizzou has lost 13 of their last 15. The KC Star has a quick preview, and mutigers.com has all the information you could possibly need (and if they don't, Cyclones.com does). ISU's only 1-6 in conference and 1-2 at home, but they thumped Nebraska and fought well against KU and OU at home as well, so expect a battle. And this is the PERFECT trap game for Mizzou--they just won a huge game, and they have the biggest game of the season (KU at home) on Monday. Cross your fingers.
Defense. Toughness. A legitimately strong resume. These are not things we're used to talking about with Mizzou Basketball, but we're there...and it's pretty friggin' fun.
That's right--ISU's up first, but it's never too early to start reminiscing about previous great KU games...
To football! Will it be tight end Sheldon Richardson or defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson? Or maybe Hutchinson Blue Dragon Sheldon Richardson? Call it Round 2 of the Richardson saga, and The Trib's on top of it.
Don't want recruiting to end? Already want to dive into the 2010 class? That's okay--so does PowerMizzou. Check out the first CHAMBER!!!!! of the '10 class...
Finally, quickly to wrestling, where The Missourian has a lovely story on Raymond Jordan and the struggles it took to get where he is today...
Oh yeah, and don't forget...

Mike Kelly, if you read this
Best wishes for a speedy recovery. From everything I have heard, diverticulitis is a particularly unpleasant condition, so I hope this fixes everything for you.
You’re a great talent, and we’re blessed to have you at Missouri. I know we fans sometimes joke about your mannerisms, but we’re VERY lucky to have someone as good as you doing our PBP, and 99% of us know it.

yeah...
…as much as I like to poke fun at him some time (with the Mike Kelly Drinking Game, etc.), having heard plenty of other college play-by-play guys, we are VERY lucky with who we’ve got. At the college level, the only guy I’ve really enjoyed more than Kelly was Bill Teegins…

Thrust nunchuk upward!
Whenever I get frustrated with Mike Kelly (which is rare, but still)...
…I always think, “Well, ”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45A5hIXJeos" target="new">he’s not Dave South."
Get well soon, To The House.

Mizzou is lucky
To have a great PBP man in Kelly, and a spectacular fill-in in Chris Gervino.
I'm the guy that keeps Mr. Death in his pocket.
I've always said that the Mizzou media's best attribute...
…is its depth.

well...they are nice people too
I cannot ever say I had a bad dealing with either Kelly or Gervino or Link. Just all really good people in my book.

How many times
has Mike Kelly said “to the house!” when talking about Brad Smith? It should be a trivia question answer.
The only other CFB announcer I liked was the guy who just retired for Georgia, I think… who talked about stepping on his face with a hobnailed boot and broke his nose!
