Decent effort, but he certainly has a good way to go...
Few people are going to be able to stop him from taking them down, but his defense standing up did not look grea (since he got hit with each punch the other dude threw). Strong strikes while he was in command on the ground, but he will need to develop a submission aspect (especially when your opponent rolls over to his stomach, as that is the easist position to submit someone out of).

Ben Askren: not a puncher.
But hey, a win’s a win. I love that he immediately shoots the leg when given the opportunity. Instinct over training, FTW.
My 2009 New Years Resolution: Quit feeding the trolls.
Tyron Woodley also won his professional debut last night
Submitting Steve Schneider with strikes at a little over a minute in the first round. Woodley is also fighting at 170.
Woodley went 7-0 in amateur fights. He also was recently among the last cut for the UFC’s “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 9. Former Mizzou football player Brad Smith (now Imes) made it to finals of that show in season 2 I believe and has lost a couple of UFC matches while winning a number of others in smaller organizations in his attempt to get back to UFC.
