FIRSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSST!
so pumped for the evening! are we not having a mizzou-specific thread tonight?

As hard as this is to say,
good luck guys. I’d much rather a team from the North win this thing.
I just got back from your mom's basement.

thanks!
was hoping for a little north love. sucks that 3 south teams are still in it. at least it’s nice knowing all of them were lower seeded teams.
by stlcardinalsfang on Mar 13, 2009 5:58 PM CDT up reply actions
Well, the conventional wisdom in October
was that the South was the better of the two divisions.
During the regular season, the North had a 19-17 head-to-head advantage against the South. The North had 3 of the top 4 teams (based on seeding), but the South had one more team over .500, and the North had Colorado.
Into the Post-season, there is 1 North team remaining, vs. 3 South teams. (So, 5 North losses, 3 South losses). Head-to-head (tourney) has UT beating CU AND K-State, Baylor beating KU, OSU beating ISU (4 wins South) and only MU beating Tech (1 win North). That puts the aggregate record at 20-21 head-to-head (South Adv).
Obviously, the important thing to take from this is – the two divisions are much closer at the top than anyone thought. But, which is the better division? Best case scenario for the North is 22-22.
So, are the two divisions equal? Is the South better because their average team is slightly better? Is the South’s talent gap finally displaying itself in the post-season?

if mizzou wins both games against the south....
Won’t the north be 22-21? Where is the other loss coming from?
by Zou want a piece? on Mar 13, 2009 6:15 PM CDT up reply actions
nevermind....
The typo was this sentence:
That puts the aggregate record at 20-21 head-to-head (South Adv).
and not this sentence:
Best case scenario for the North is 22-22.
I get it now.
by Zou want a piece? on Mar 13, 2009 6:17 PM CDT up reply actions
No, you were right.
The south can only get 1 more win against the north, but if MU wins it all, they will not get it.
22-21 is best case for the North.

So who's everyone rooting for?
Not to look past OSU (a team that scares me right now), if we were to win tonight, would you rather face Baylor or Texas?
My gut says Baylor, but that could be due to word association (Texas=good at sports, Baylor=Baylor).
by RoyalsFanInBillings on Mar 13, 2009 6:36 PM CDT reply actions
Honestly neither team is playing
with much spunk.
I don’t want to play against Pittman.
And do we get a different set of refs? This is atrocious.

not able to watch, stuck at work
refs letting things go? or trying to use whistle to audition for the pep band?
Another POV…which team has the deeper bench? Again, my gut would say Texas, but the team with the better bench is going to be a little stronger after three games in three days.
by RoyalsFanInBillings on Mar 13, 2009 6:42 PM CDT up reply actions
This is a big jinx.
We shouldn’t be talking about this.
The refs are letting Texas maul Baylor players & then calling offensive fouls.
I thought the officiating last night for our game was awful as well. Can you just let these guys play?

And then call some ticky-tack bs at the other end.
I don’t like to complain about the refs but I feel that it is unusually bad this year.

We're clearly saying
that we’re not overlooking OSU. If anyone is assuming we’re going to go into Oklahoma City and handle OSU, they’re foolish. We CAN win, as our win in Stillwater proves, but we certainly don’t have an automatic win.
Of course, I wonder if we’ll have the OU fans supporting us. Do they hate OSU enough to go just to root against them?

like I said, OSU scares me
I keep thinking back to their comeback earlier this season. Between the three, OSU worries me the most.
by RoyalsFanInBillings on Mar 13, 2009 6:50 PM CDT up reply actions
Hard to say... OSU scares me more than either of these two teams
simply because of WHERE we’re playing them.
Of these two teams, I’d rather face Texas. Baylor, if they win this game, will be SUPER Hot, and Texas relies so much on Pittman.. I don’t count on him to be terribly effective for game 4.

Even if we were to win it all
I think OU will be seeded higher than us. They should still be a 2, we’ll be lucky to be a 4, MIGHT play into 3.

but I agree, we’re probably looking at a four, and I think we get that even with a loss tonight.

Yeah, I misspoke when I said "lucky"
if we win it all, there is no way we’ll fall below a 4… and a 3 would probably be more likely. But, a 2 is really unlikely, and that’s what we need to get to KC.

Baylor taking advantage of turnovers and good transition play. Looking a lot like us, really. But, I don’t think they’d be able to do this effectively in game 4.

Baylor has no business being this close.
Their defense, especially their interior defense, has been ragged at best. If they do beat Texas, I like JYD’s chance of running things.

That, of course, is dependent on beating OK State, which absolutely comes first.

My 2009 New Years Resolution: Quit feeding the trolls.
The big X-factor right now...
… is that Abrams is starting to heat up.
Texas is a completely different team when both Abrams and Pittman are getting theirs.
Exactly.
Texas is like a worse version of Kansas, with a dynamic shooting guard and a pound-it-inside big man who are exceptionally streaky. When Abrams/Collins and Pittman/Aldrich are on, they’re golden. When they’re off, the climb gets exceptionally steeper.

Someone mentioned 2 fouls on Carroll...
Was that wrong, or does he have all of our fouls?

Why are
we not ready to play in the first half?
we're fine...
…it’s a frantic pace, and neither team has a rhythm yet…they’ve just gotten a couple more rolls…

Because we thrive on the effect
that our pressure makes cumulatively. We wear down teams. It’s not that we play worse in the 1st half, it’s that we get better opportunities in the 2nd half because of mistakes that we force the other team into.

So.. even if we win tonight
and have a chance to go from nothing to a GREAT season, the big story in the media is going to be the “cinderella” run by Baylor. Even though they are supposed to be good and just pissed their season away.

Was worried they'd call a foul on that
hate to see Eaton get hurt here, but wouldn’t mind if he was out… then completely recovered in 3 hours.

Have to feel good being down 2
And with all the OSU fouls, we’re in good shape if we can figure out how to score
No way we're shooting that bad in the 2nd half.
But they will hit more too. Interesting to see if they can run the offense without Eaton.
Should be a fun 2nd half.

Good D to close that out
looking forward to the 2nd half, if they can continue to stay in foul trouble. ESPECIALLY if we can start shooting.
