Lunardi says Texas A&M is "solidly in"
according to interview on Eric Kusilias’ show this AM. That means Big 12 gets
Missouri
Kansas
Oklahoma
Texas
Texas A&M
Oklahoma St
Baylor(?)
I don’t think many people would be upset with getting 7 schools in, even 6 would be a better situation than it looked like last week.

Yeah, I think ATM's pretty safe...
Let’s look at my Last 8 In/First 8 Out from yesterday…
Last 8 In
Boston College (lost tightly to Duke)
Minnesota (lost to Michigan State)
Michigan (lost to Illinois)
San Diego State (beat BYU—they’re in)
Penn State (lost to Purdue)
UNLV
South Carolina (got thumped by Mississippi State)
Florida (lost to Auburn)
First 8 Out
Arizona
Maryland (beat Wake—they’re in)
Creighton
St. Mary’s
Temple (beat Xavier—they’re in the A10 finals and might be in anyway)
UAB (lost to Tulsa)
New Mexico
Miami-FL
So an at-large bid disappeared when Temple and Duquesne made the A10 finals…so now I’d say my last four in are…
Michigan
Penn State
Maryland
UNLV
First Four Out…
Florida
South Carolina
Arizona
Creighton

I came so close to going to OKC today
but my Grandma can’t watch my sisters tonight. My dad even printed out directions to OKC. :(
that sucks

Tulsa making an attempt at a run
Anyone think they have a chance?
coulda been within a point
but missed the bunny
Be nice if they did
we’re sitting on the cusp of a #2 seed, if the CBS RPI that Atch posted is reliable. Memphis loses, that might be enough to give us the KC invite.

Of course, it also has OU and kU being top 10
along with us, so KC may be out of reach.

this has been updated
they’re No. 10 in this as well. It’s the same formula.
I think if they win today
they should jump up to at least #12, which should be enough to get them to the #3 seed line.
According to Lunardi's "nitty gritty report,"
Mizzou is the top #4 seed. But that’s not updated daily, and it appears that was before last night’s win.
That dream probably sailed when we lost to A&M
Realistically, the best scenario is us getting a 3-seed somewhere and being in the bottom half of the bracket. I don’t see the selection committee giving us a home-court two-seed even with a win tonight.

It will be a big bummer
if KS ends up getting to play in KC.
And Texas too!
I really don’t know how they do it, so maybe it’s fair but it would make me & my family puke.

Mizzou locked up a 3 with the developments yesterday.
I think Wake’s loss drops them to a 4 seed, which opens the door. And then UCLA, one of the few 4’s that I thought had an outside-outside-outside shot of taking a 3, lost to USC, which is large.

I think if we win today
we could logically claim to have the 8th best resume(Pitt, UConn, Louisville, UNC, Duke, Wake, Michigan State), but getting that would require moving in front of some programs that have a lot of inertia(Memphis, Kansas, OU).

i don't think you include duke and wake on that list
but you could definitly include memphis. i just don’t think the commitee is going to put ahead of such “historical teams” such as oklahoma, kansas, memphis, duke, and wake. which i think is bullshit.
by stlcardinalsfang on Mar 14, 2009 12:33 PM CDT up reply actions
Duke
Duke’s profile is still awfully good. RPI is 2, KenPom is 7, ranked 8 by the coaches and 9 by the media. SOS is 2. The one thing they lack is many eye-popping wins. They’re 6-5 versus the top 50, and their best win is at home against Wake (RPI 15). We could be close to them.
As for “historical” teams, I don’t think the committee cares in the least about that.
by Michael Atchison on Mar 14, 2009 12:56 PM CDT up reply actions
I don't think a 2 is possible, unless we get a TON of help.
The truth is that a number of teams have dibs on a 2 ahead of us right now: Michigan State (or UConn, if you feel MSU should be a 1, which I don’t), Memphis, Duke, OU (yeah, I know, but still), probably Villanova, and maybe even Kansas. The only way we can start talking about a 2 seed from where I’m sitting, is if you see Duke and Memphis lose today.
My 2009 New Years Resolution: Quit feeding the trolls.
CBS RPI still has OU at #5
if that’s accurate, they’re a SOLID #2.
"When he went for that ball and dived over the table, I knew what was next to come. I felt sorry for what Texas Tech had to face after that."
-- J. T. Tiller - 3/12/09
Is it possible to get KC as a No. 3?
Probably not, considering KU and OU will have dibs, and maybe even Memphis (they are equidistant from Dayton and KC). I think the best thing to do is win today and hope for a 3 in a bracket where Memphis is NOT the 2. I think we can hang with anyone else.
Also, hope for Minneapolis or maybe Dayton. Beats the hell out of Boise, which is where all the leftovers go.
Contenders for Minneapolis — Michigan State, OU/KU/Memphis (whoever’s not in KC), Missouri, Illinois if they win?
Contenders for Dayton (much harder) — Pitt, Louisville, OU/KU/Memphis
So asking for KC is too much, IMO. Minneapolis would be a fine consolation prize, with a 3, a team like Clemson or Tennessee as the 6 and Duke or maybe MSU as a 2.
I believe that KC only has 2 and 7
but, I may be wrong. Are the sites pre-defined with the seed they will get? IOW, is KC ALWAYS going to be #2 seed, regardless of who the potential #2s are?
"When he went for that ball and dived over the table, I knew what was next to come. I felt sorry for what Texas Tech had to face after that."
-- J. T. Tiller - 3/12/09
I don't think so (Lunardi has OU in KC as a No. 1 a couple of weeks ago)
I think it’s simply, here are the top four seeds — where would they most like to go? Here are the No. 2s, where do they want to go and so on. But once two 1-4 seeds are assigned to a site, the others have to go somewhere else.
Baylor is hot, but there's a reason that only the top 4 seeds have won this thing
However, MU’s legs were looking tired last night, but I think that Baylor is going to have a lot more trouble recovering than Missouri. I hope for Baylor to try to play us like they did Texas – fast and furious. If they do, we can keep up, and we’re better at it than they are. By 12 minutes left, they’ll be dead and we’ll have enough to put them away.
But, they are playing REALLY well now. I am glad we’re playing them on day 4, not day 2.

I like Jimmy Dykes
But he has this horrible habit of defending to the death whichever team he’s watching. Auburn is NOT in the tournament, probably not even if they win today.

They rely so heavily on the three at times, and with our perimeter defense, we’d be able to shut off that scoring aspect of their game.

Lunardi has changed his bracket
There’s this impression around here that he’s horrible, and sometimes he is. But it seems like he changes his mind a lot and usually ends up somewhere near accurate. I mean, yesterday he had New Mexico somehow in and now has them rightfully out. He’s flip-flopped on Creighton and now St. Mary’s after their tournaments were already over, and I think both of those teams are in.
He has Mizzou as a 3, by the way, in Boise with Clemson as the 6 and Memphis as the 2.
KU has top-20 SOS, top-10 RPI
Since Jan 1, they’ve only had 1 loss outside of the top-50 RPI. They’ve got a win AT OU and were the outright winners of the Big 12. Yes, the have lost their last 2 games, but that doesn’t change what they’ve done all season.

Not just one seeds either — there's an impressive list of championships casualties
UNC, UConn, Pitt, Oklahoma, kansas, Michigan State, Wake Forest, UCLA, Washington, LSU, Xavier, Villanova
Duke, Mizzou and Louisville still playing, Memphis won out. But everybody else in like the top 12-15 is having big-time problems this week.

If Maryland beats Duke
Duke should drop to a three, but the committee seems to be in love with them and always gives them a high seed.
which is why they're always a nice upset pick the first wkend
ever since the Duhon-Deng-Sheldon Williams crew left, they just haven’t had that many good players.
And yes, this includes you, J.J. Redick
No offense intended but
wow, you are young, aren’t you?

I knew that, but that doesn't make it hit home for me
the fact that you have never picked them to go past the Elite 8, when much of my life (at least from high school through college) it was expected that Duke would be one of the top 2 or 3 teams EVERY Year.

it's funny
I was thinking about the Mizzou team that went 14-0 in the Big 8, and then I couldn’t remember if I had a computer yet or not. I didn’t. The next year, I had a computer and was connecting text-only to the internet, and remember the old espn.com chat rooms where everyone was in love with Kerry Kittles and Marcus Camby and UMass made their big run in the tourney. Good times.
Dickie V says Maryland is No. 35 in his Bald Dome Index
That’s behind 10 ACC teams and 12 Big East teams.
well
He’s just in love with the ACC. 35 is way too high for Maryland, at least unless they win today.
Seriously? 23 of his top 35 are ACC and Big East teams?
I mean, there are some good very teams there, but they’re not the ONLY good teams in the country. Of course, for ESPN, the country stops at Appalachians.

with a 7-8 record (entering today), I doubt it
But they’ve now won 9 of 11 against Texas. That’s a nice program to own.
I had no clue what their record was
I know they didn’t do too well out here in San Diego a couple weeks ago. Mizzou baseball has always been one step away from being an elite team for as long as I can remember. Tim Jamesons done a good job, but I’m not sure he can get them over the hump to be a national contender every year.
I think there's some truth in that
They’ve started preseason No. 10 a couple of years and tumbled. But to say they can’t get over the hump is a little premature. Seven, eight years ago, MU was a bottom-feeder in the Big 12. Now they’ve been to the tournament every year since (I think) 2003, the only team in the league that can say that. So Jamieson has been terrific. But, again, there’s some truth to that: All these regionals and just one super-regional and no CWS. If they keep getting the pitching studs, though, that’ll come sooner or later.
Getting this win against UT was huge
I was of the mind that if we can steal 1/3 from Texas, we’ll be in good shape heading into next weekend’s series against another top 5 team in Texas A&M. Winning the series in Austin would be huge for this team’s confidence in the long run, too.

they’ve got that built-in excuse of Lawson not playing (at least I assume he didn’t play – I didn’t see him out there at the end of the game).

They’re playing around with a video on the scoreboard that’s a compilation of images and highlights from the first three days of the tournament. Great looking stuff – “One Shining Moment” esque.
Side note: J.T. Tiller did to Alan Voskuil what I wish Justin Garrett had done to receivers over the middle all year long.

Would you kindly explain to Faschilla that DeMarre Carroll is the JYD, not JT Tiller? Also, see if you can get him to let it slip that Zaire Taylor is Mr. Coffee? That would kick ass.
Yeah, that was my cue to go to bed
he laid him out. I’m surprised that Voskuil got back up after that. Maybe Tiller is our next Gage… but on the Defensive side of the ball?

I'm starting to get a little worried that Duke-MD won't be over by the time we start
what’s the chance that ESPN would put us on Classic or ESPNU?
the first ACC game went long
lots of fouls and a situation with the arena lights, i think
I suppose the could delay the B12 Final
for a just a few minutes, since it’s the only game at Ford Center today.
They'll put it on 360, I'd guess

God I love Kimmie:
— Eyes on the prize: With ESPN cameras filming B-roll of the Big 12 Championship trophy at mid-court, Missouri freshman guard walked by and began doing pushups next to the trophy, pretending to kiss it on the way down.
