Around SBN: Champions League Preview with Jimmy Conrad

Championship Week, Day Thirteen

Consider this your open thread for the four remaining games of Championship Week.  It's been a really fun twelve days.

ACC FINALS: 3 Duke v. 4 Florida State (12:00 on ESPN and ATDHE.net)

SEC FINALS: E1 Tennessee v. W3 Mississippi STate (12:00 on CBS and ATDHE.net)

Southland FINALS: 1 Stephen F. Austin v. 6 UT-San Antonio (if UTSA wins, they get one of my 16 seeds) (12:00 on ESPN2 and ATDHE.net)

Big Ten FINALS: 3 Purdue v. 5 Ohio State (2:30 on CBS and ATDHE.net)

GAME OF THE DAY

Mississippi State v. Tennessee (12:00)
Fans of St. Mary's, Creighton, Penn State, Auburn, Maryland, and San Diego State should REALLY be rooting for Bruce Pearl's Vols in this one.  A Bulldog win, and that's one final bubble slot removed.

Come on Florida St!

If you win, maybe we could sneak in and grab Duke’s two seed!

That was pretty clearly a 2

his entire foot was over the line.

Are there any other conferences that play their tournament

at the same location as another conference plays their FOOTBALL Championship?

Georgia Dome – host of the ACC Tournament and SEC Championship game.

Jeebus

they can’t miss from 3. Impressive shooting. 70% for the game. 5-5 in this run.

I typically try my best to stay away from games Vitale is calling. MAN is he annoying. I’ll give him credit, he obviously loves the game, but that doesn’t explain his popularity when you consider how annoying he is.

But, he actually was yelling because Duke DIDN’T get called for a foul.

Mississippi State down one to Tennessee with 2 minutes to go in the first half.

San Francisco, State College, Omaha, Auburn, College Park and San Diego are wringing their hands.

FSU is making a nice run

Duke went from being red-hot in the 1st half to ice cold in this half

AWFUL call by the refs

Classic “called blocking foul when there was no contact”—should’ve been a travel

Timeout Tennessee with about 10 seconds left

62-60 Mississippi State. Yawn. Another exciting finish in championship week.

Oh my...

The officiating in this game has been brutal. One ref calls a foul, one a travel. It was a travel, they called it a foul. Good God.

Makes one free throw, misses on

Rebound tipped out of bounds by MSU, Tennessee ball with 9.6 to go and down 1.

Wow...

Officials just called 5 seconds on the inbound when UT might have got the timeout off. I don’t think I’ve seen worse officiating down the stretch than in this game—these SEC refs make Big 12 refs look like Gods.

How did no time run off the clock there?

It shouldn’t have been much, but it starts with contact of the ball, right?

They took 0.6 off

And Tennessee just forced a turnover!

They've inbounded the ball 3 times...

and only 0.3 seconds have run off the clock TOTAL…including when they looked at it initially.

Go Boilers!

I like Ohio State, thanks to some time I’ve spent in Columbus.

HOWEVER, I almost went to Purdue, so I’m rooting for them.

Palm's "final" bracket (after everything except B10/11 champ)

Has Mizzou as a 3 in Minneapolis

KC spots go to OU and Memphis

Kansas goes to Boise (as a 3).

I would love that.
Our road would be
NDState – Arizona State – Michigan State – Louisville – Pittsburgh

Bracketology 101's final bracket

These guys have been the most accurate for the last several years.

I’d prefer Utah out of the 6th seeds, but I like WVU better than UCLA and OSU. Facing Memphis in Indianapolis would be fun.

by Transmogrified Tiger on Mar 15, 2009 4:19 PM CDT reply actions

I would hate WVU

they make the sweet 16 every freakin year, and they’re in KenPom’s top 10. Please no West Virginia. That’s even more important to me than being in KC or Minneapolis.

Agreed.

Stay away from the Mountaineers. They’re a well-coached, scrappy team that’s hitting its stride.

Last minute Predictions?

3 seed.

OU will get a 2 and get a trip to KC. If they can do a 2-pod and a 3-pod in KC (I’m not sure if they can), we’ll be in KC. Otherwise, we’ll be in Boise. Kansas will be a 3 in Memphis.

by Andy--01 on Mar 15, 2009 4:46 PM CDT reply actions

Memphis will be in KC

They can do whatever pod they want, but Memphis is a one/two seed so they get the nod over us.

by solidpit on Mar 15, 2009 4:47 PM CDT up reply actions

But, it makes as much sense to send them to Dayton

as to KC. So, might as well save the air fare to put either MU or KU here in KC.
