"The rumor now is that [Alabama] going to go after Izzo from Michigan State instead of Anderson. But, the thing is, they're saying that if Izzo is going to leave Michigan State, then Kentucky is going to go get him and Gillespie is out."
-- From my father, an Alabama graduate who is currently in Birmingham and talking with some of his UA friends. Take it or leave it, it is an interesting rumor.

I'm sure there's a gif that can better express
laughter at the delusion of anyone from Bama thinking Izzo would come there. The SEC is way down, and Bama is not a strong basketball school. The only thing that could potentially woo someone of even Anderson’s caliber is a truckload of money. That shouldn’t be overestimated, but they’re going to have a hard time pulling someone from a program in better standing whose team is currently having success.

um, yeah good luck with that 'bama.
you’ll have to pay him ten million a year just to lure ‘em. and that probably won’t even do it.

btw
the fact that alabama is even thinking about this suggest that they are just ROLLING in cash in the athletic department. it’s kind of disgusting.

My thought process during all this has been
if they can pay Nick Saban 4 mil a year (which is EASILY bigger than his pro contract), and they’re getting all sorts of money because of what John Sarah Jessica Parker Wilson did for a few games early this year…then it is completely within the realm of possibility that they will offer a $2m-year contract or bigger to some quality coaches.
Think back to last season: wasn’t there a few rumors that Okie State, before the T. Boone money dried up because of the economy, was going to offer Stutterin’ Bill Self a massive contract on the romantic notion of him returning to his home? This is a similar situation, and Alden should be keeping his ear to the ground to know what sort of extension he should offer CMA.
It's a funny name.

Well, Self has legitimate ties to Oklahoma State
like has been pointed out , Anderson’s ties are “he used to coach in the same state”

He's also from Alabama
It’s a sort of “favorite son” thing. This reminds me a bit of how Steve Alford was the top choice of the fans to take over for Bob Knight after he got forced out (and yeah, Alford did play for the Hoosiers, I will admit) at Indiana. However, Alford didn’t want it because he said he didn’t want the pressure of being at IU, as well as his belief that he had a good thing going at Iowa.
It's a funny name.

Speaking of Alford
COY this year. Wonder how long the honeymoon will last down south.
This is going to be a real pickle for Alden. Though I think that Anderson deserves a raise for what he’s done this year, with the economy in the crapper, Alden has to be cognizant of the amount that he increases the yearly salary. Though I understand that money for these salaries has nothing to do with the overall budget of the University, you still would need to deal the….well, stupid people in this town that didn’t get it with Pinkel’s raise. I’m going on the popular theory (my own) that Anderson would rather make a bit less money in a league that current doesn’t suck eggs, and will not suck eggs for years. He’s got the makings of a near-dynasty with some of the kids here and those coming. Maybe he doesn’t want to start all that again (similar to Dave Matter’s theory on Pinkel staying at Mizzou for as long as the school wants him).
I'm the guy that keeps Mr. Death in his pocket.
Assorted Comments from the 'Bama Homer:
Disclaimer: I don’t think we’re going to get Izzo.
That said, nothing that has been said thus far sounds any different from the things that were said about ‘Bama and Nick Saban a few years back. In fact, people were even more sure that Saban wasn’t going to go to Tuscaloosa than they are about Anderson or Izzo. So, yeah, never say never.
Regarding the $2m: I made the same suggestion here a few weeks ago and that’s still what we’re hearing through the grapevine.
All of my comments on that Rock M Nation thread still apply: Alabama’s athletic department not only has more money than it could possibly spend, it has access to even more than that. My understanding is that there’s a significant number of boosters who would like to make a big donation to something specific, but the athletic department doesn’t have any huge needs right now (aside from the recently approved stadium expansion), so I have no doubt that there are boosters that Mal Moore has already secured who are willing to pony up funds to get some high-powered, big-name type coach to fill Gottfried’s shoes.
In short: for all intents and purposes, money is no object.
Also worth noting, if Saban takes Alabama back to the SEC Championship game next year, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him get an extension and raise. If he wins the SEC or a BCS bowl game, I would be shocked if he didn’t get both of those.
