Not going to get to really devote any time to this as I am pretty crushed at work and I am headed out of town/country on Saturday morning...but I will do my best to keep this up to date.
The opening rounds of the NCAA Wrestling Tournament was this morning/afternoon here in St. Louis. It has been an OK morning for the Tigers, but with one upset. Mark Ellis at HWY has yet to wrestle, though should at any moment
First, those who held their seeds were:
#5 Marcus Hoehn, who needed OT to win his match 3-2 at 141
#6 Mike Chandler who won his match 4-3 at 157
#5 Ray Jordan who won his match 11-3 at 174, getting some bonus for the Tigers
#6 Max Askren who won his match 7-2 at 197
Those who did not win (nor were they expected to perhaps) were:
Todd Schavrien at 133 who lost 13-2
Dorian Henderson at 184 who lost 8-1
The one surprise result was:
#5 Nick Marable losing 5-2 to an unranked wrestler from Stanford at 165
The tourney is double-elimination (actually it is possible to lose 3 depending on when you lose your 2nd) so there is still plenty of ground for Marable to get some wins. But that is a tough start for a wrestler with the highest previous finish of any who are attending (3rd last season)
