Res Hall Linebacker
[Promoted for Front Page Friday!]
I know some of you may have seen this before, but I'm not sure if I've ever posted it here so I figured I'd take advantage of the Front Page Friday to show if off. First, if you're not familiar with the old Reebok "Terry Tate Office Linebacker" commercials, go watch that first.
Okay, a little back story. Back in my freshman year, I guess around February or March 2005, I lived in the new Discovery Hall. Down the hall lived Brad Ekwerekwu and his roommate (who I won't name because he makes a "surprise" cameo in the video). My friends and I got bored one night and decided to recreate this commercial in a Mizzou fashion. We first tried to get Brad's roommate, but due to some soreness in the ribs, he politely declined. He did, however, make a few phone calls and soon thereafter we had our star, the ridiculously awesome Greg Bracey. From the get-go, Greg was 100% about this movie. He needed no script, no rehearsal, what you see was all first or second take. For the "interview" scenes, we actually could only have one cameraguy in the room (Brad E's dorm room at the time) because we'd inevitably end up laughing too hard and ruining the take. (I wish I could find the bloopers. On one take instead of tackling the target, Greg just stepped in front of the camera and mooned everyone.) Unfortunately on such short notice, we couldn't get uniforms, pads, or even a competent actor for our Res Hall authority (sorry if you're friends with Phil). But it was an awesome way to spend an evening and I think for the three hours it took to make, it was totally worth it.
Interesting fact: we gave a DVD of the clip to Greg and we hear that he showed it around the locker room to the rest of the team. I don't know who all watched it, but maybe Pinkel has seen it??
Second interesting (and much funnier) fact: most of the people in the video are friends from the floor, but to this day we still don't know who the kid studying in the lounge is. We busted in on the poor guy while he was actually trying to study, and he just sat there in bewilderment as we filmed the scene. So lounge guy, if you're reading this, I hope we didn't screw up your test grade.
Without further ado... Greg Bracey: Res Hall Linebacker.

I guess Gary Pinkel didn’t appreciate Bracey’s style of enforcement.
But what a fun video. I watched about three of the Terry Tate before I saw yours.
Thanks for the vids.
Mike Anderson) doesn’t need to go out and sign a bunch of McDonald’s All-Americans. He just needs to go find a few Burger King-type guys and he’ll get it done - Nolan Richardson on Mike Anderson

In 2005 I was a Senior..
and Bracey was in a class of mine. I remember him having some pretty classic moments…he was a funny dude.
Here are my 3 other encounters with Mizzou athletes during my time in Como:
1. Taking a food science class with Ricky Clemons. He had the same stealy eyed look on his face every day…I remember thinking there was something weird about the dude…who knew!
2. I worked at the REC all 4 years of college. When I was a freshmen just getting started, someone at the front desk denied Clarence Gilbert access because he didn’t have his student ID or a license…and he went absolutely crazy about it. Can’t blame him really, EVERYBODY knew who he was, and the person I was working with was a stickler for the rules…but it was pretty funny watching how nuts he went about it. He kept saying, “I’m Clarence Gilbert” over and over again. I was really close to laughing, but glad he didn’t see my face because he would have just gotten madder. Eventually, my superior broke and let him in.
3. My senior year while working at the REC, Rickey Paulding came to the front desk and asked if I could clean up some blood. He told me someone had just gotten elbowed playing basketball. No biggie, happened all the time. However, he was lying, and neglected to tell me that it was actually from a fight that had broken out on the bball court. Some guy got punched and bled on the court…he then grabbed a small knife from his coat to go after the guy who had hit him, but his buddies held him back and got the knife from him. Needless to say, when I got over there, I had no idea in the world what was going on…we ended up having to call the cops and it turned into an interesting day. Thanks for the heads up Rick!
My brother lived on that floor
and I was wondering if he was in the video. Alas, he was!
Great video, thanks.
