Mizzou Softball vs. Texas Tech

Mizzou looks to take another step towards the Big XII regular season title today with the first of two games on the road down in Lubbock. Texas Tech currently occupies one of the spots in the basement of the conference, so this game, while one of the last on the road, is extremely important. Stacy Delaney gets the call in game 1 and action is underway.

Despite a 2-out double from Marla Schweisberger in the top of the first, Mizzou could not plate her. Delaney gave up a leadoff single, but got out of the inning, so we are scoreless through 1 full inning.

After Nottelmann was retired, Ubrun and Christopher have back to back singles and a double steal, for runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Vock with a fielders choice to plate Ubrun to give Mizzou the early 1-0 lead with 2nd and 3rd still with 1 out.

Another FC from Allen got Christopher retired at home, and then Allen was picked off as Taylor batted.

the bats are hot again, as Taylor walks and steals second, and scores on a double from Gina Schneider who then comes home on a 2-run homerun from Marla Schweisberger

Thomas strikes out the first two and gets the last on a ground out, giving the Tigers a dominant 12-0 run rule win

Sophomore catcher Megan Christopher stays red hot with 3-4 with 3 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. Sophomore Marla Schweisberger hits another HR and goes 2-4 on the afternoon with 2 RBI’s. The pitching was effective, spraying 3 hits and 1 walk with 6 K’s.

They will be back out there tomorrow, as I assume freshman Kristen Nottelmann will take the hill.

OU is keeping pace this afternoon with a large lead late on aTm. Right now, since Baylor and UT still need to play a game against one another, OU is probably the main threat to the Tigers, especially since they have two games remaining against one another. The Tigers need to keep winning the games they are supposed to win and I imagine the rest will take care of itself.
