Meme Madness: Boulevard Regional First Round
In the vortex of large-scale athletic emptiness until football season begins again, we're passing the days here at Rock M Nation with Meme Madness, a 32-entry, bracket style blowout to determine the best theme/inside joke RMN has to offer. The full bracket can be found here.
Today, we feature the 2 v. 7 matchup in the Boulevard Regional.

There's nothing quite like the official celebratory music of Rock M Nation. There's a reason we let it play in its entirety at the end of the postgame podcast following Missouri's win over Memphis to reach the Elite Eight. Yes, in a short time, Brass Bonanza has become as much a part of Rock M Nation as any member or any other meme. We all feel the hurt of the Hartford Whalers absence from the NHL, but that's no good excuse to let the euphonious melody of Brass Bonanza go to waste. While we get an occasional bittersweet laugh at Brass Bonanza's evil counterpart (Total Eclipse of the Heart), there's nothing quite like the explosion of brass to accompany us into discussion of Mizzou's epic successes. The question now becomes: If Brass Bonanza wins Meme Madness, would using it as celebration music for its own celebration tear a hole in the Internets and the space-time continuum? |
Let's make this abundantly clear: ghtd36 LOVES Kendial Lawrence. Missouri's newest freshman tailback may not come to Mizzou with out-of-control hype from the Rivals guys, but Lord knows he's already carrying a fan club of at least one. It's not uncommon for ghtd36 to lead off the subject line of a post with "HOLY GOD," but the sheer giddiness of our boy ghtd36 reached a landmark point with Lawrence's commitment. The manlove allowed me to create the image you see above, an image that nearly sent The Boy to the hospital. The resulting "Kendial Lawrence is God" meme has reached some pretty epic proportions around here. The Boy perhaps best summed it up: One day.... Kendial Lawrence is going to google his name, and he’s not going to be even REMOTELY prepared for what he finds. No pressure, Kendial. The weight of ghtd36's world is on your shoulders. Welcome to Mizzou. |

I cast a vote for my own meme...
…but damn, do I love me some Brass Bonanza.
Also, I’d like to take a moment to remind people as to why I’m excited about Kendial Lawrence. This is video of The Man.
It’s not like I’m worshipping…oh, I don’t know…some pretty good safety who played just half a season (AHEM).
Seeking a new signature...
Follow me here:
No Pig = no Illinois victory
No Illinois victory = no confidence in 07 non-conference
No confidence in 07 non-conference = No 41-6
No 41-6 = No fight in Norman
No fight in Norman = No chance to stop Reesing and Co. at Arrowhead
No chance to stop Reesing and Co. at Arrowhead = No North title
No North title = Nebraska or Kansas North title
Nebraska/Kansas North title = Victory for the terrorists
Victory for the terrorists = Poor impression of Missouri
Poor impression of Missouri = Kendial Lawrence elects to go somewhere else.
So, you see, No Pig would have meant no Kendial Lawrence. It’s science.
I never have understood this one
Seriously, who other than The Beef cares about the Whalers and their song? There’s a reason the Whalers no longer exist.
Several reasons...
I used to joke around with celebratory music, linking to YouTube videos of various techno songs. We needed something we could call (or at least claim as) our own.
Brass Bonanza is a classic. I wish I could describe to you the hours of my childhood spent with Brass Bonanza playing in the background of my games in NHL 94.
That doesn't change the fact...
…that the song is the greatest thing in the history of the world.

Well...my caring should be enough...shouldn't it?

Rock M Nation
Not enough to get me to vote for it in the coming rounds...
It wins this round, but all bets are off in the future rounds (and keeping my vote). I have no emotional attachment to the Whalers or this tune. “One Shinning Moment” or “It’s the Heart of the Champion” or “Monday Night Football” or etc. has had more play in my household (not outside of sports mind you). Screw the Whalers – Let’s go Blues!
(sorry Beef)
Could we get an update
on what the brackets look like, sometime soon? I have no clue what the 2nd round matchups are like.
