ESPN College Football Live
Yesterday was Big 12 day on ESPN College Football Live. Dari Nowkhah and Andre Ware spent about 20 minutes talking exclusively about the South (as well they should, the power is still down south, obviously). But when they finally got around to talking about Mizzou and the North (and interviewing Coach Pinkel to boot), Andre Ware dropped this bombshell, and I quote: "I have a hard time finding five wins on Mizzou's schedule".
So let me get this straight, Andre. You're basically saying Mizzou is going 4-8 next year?
Hey, I'm expecting a pretty sizeable letdown, no doubt. We lose a ton of talent (QB, two best receivers, three starters of DL, three starters in seconday, All-B12 kicker). I know it's going to be tough. In fact, my baseline expectation is only 7-5 (just get bowl eligible baby) and anything past that is gravy.
But I think predicting a 4-8 season is a little overboard. In fairness, he's pretty consistent. He did predict that Texas Tech would have six or fewer wins as well.
In the immortal words of Lou Brown, I hope we can give Andre a big sh*tburger to eat.
I know it's only Andre Ware, but if this is the kind of offseason attention we'll be getting, it's going to be a long summer. I'll be interested to see what Phil Steele, Athlon's and others have to say.

You could make a lot of money...
…betting against whatever Andre Ware says.

I just refuse to care about this...
If someone who you dont respect says something you dont agree with…why take the time to worry about it. All the people calling for this as a rallying cry for the team are off too. The team and coaches do not care enough about what the “pundits” say in April about a team yet to see the field. Control what you can control, and this is not something we can control (other than not watching/listening/paying attention to it and eventually it will go away)

agree with the first part, disagree somewhat with the second
If Pinkel’s smart, he will definitely use this as a “Nobody believes in us” battle cry (or, dare I say, DISRESPECT)…not with Andre Ware specifically, but with all the pundits over the next four months who are probably going to say exactly what Ware said here…

I just dont see Pinkel as a bulletin board motivator...
For someone who would appear to have the controls and processes in place that he does, I just dont think that material comes from the coaches. Now, that is not to say the players wont find it on their own and use it how they see fit, but I do not believe it will come from this coaching staff.

Back in 2006, I think...
…when Brad was gone and everybody was picking Mizzou 5th in the North, the guys they took to Media Day made it a point to mention the polls/lack of respect in answering just about every single question…whether the players or coaches put it in their heads, it was there, and I expect it to be there again…encourage it to be there…people need to be busting their asses over the summer, and while I’m sure the coaches motivate them pretty good on their own, every little bit counts…

Well..then I guess it is just me
I guess I just refuse to pay attention to it and dont think it is worth the attention of the coaches or really the players. Probably explains why I dont read Phil Steele or any other rag cover to cover :-)

I understand and somewhat agree with your point ...
… but let me add, if you’re going to start reading one of those preseason rags, I would highly recommend you read Phil Steele. He’s by far the best. His presentation leaves something to be desired, but it’s chock-full of information.

Turnovers = turnaround
I’m hoping that’s the case for Mizzou this year since we didn’t force many last year.

Turnovers = Turnaround!!
Such a great discovery…I’ve used it about 17 times in my Football Outsiders columns…and I try to pass it off as my own a bit more every time…

You formatted that wrong.
“Phil Steele = God” should read:
“Steele (#1 PS) is God in 3 of 5 yrs; big production w/ BCS teams from ’04-08.”

He is the one I will typically spend money on
though I am getting a little tired of his self-flagulation, albeit in very small font.

How about these 5?
1 – Bowling Green
2 – Furman
3 – @ Colorado
4 – Baylor
5 – Iowa State
That’s not even counting other games I think we’ll win
6 – @ Nevada – although that one might be a loss
7 – Nebraska
8 – @ K-State
9 – Kansas

you forget one thing:
For the fourth year in a row, Colorado will be touted as a major “sleeper” in the North, and therefore I guarantee that’s being considered a loss.

No team led by Commander Cody will find big success.

I just think...
…there’s a statute of limitations as to how many years somebody can call you a sleeper. They could be decent this year, who knows, but if they are, they’ll prove it on the field. Eventually you’d think people would stop buying into it before it happens.

I'm pretty sure Andre chalked up Baylor as an L
Because he slopped all over Hot Tub for about four minutes at the beginning of the show. Yes, Baylor won’t be a cakewalk, but I like getting them at home this year, no doubt.
I just have this feeling that we’re not going to have as big a letdown as the national folks will think. We’re probably not going to win the North again, but hey, stranger things have happened.

Well...
Half of my season hopes is we manage a winning record (which seems entirely possible) and maybe nab a bowl game. The other half is beating Kansas, especially if come game time they’re ranked and we aren’t.
