I just can’t believe someone would stuff the ballot box for meme madness. It seems like way to much effort for the result. just makes rpt have to work that much harder.
What I can't believe...
… is that, despite all of the complaining, you still never came up with a solution.
What I can't believe
is that we were forced to choose between the two, when they were both winners in my book!
"Wherever you go, there you are" - Buckaroo Bonzai
Solutions.
1) You keep the original vote. Despite alleged voter fraud in favor of Laffy Saffy, there are at least two other instances of someone logging on multiple times and (apparently) voting more than once. Throwing out the original vote implies that the vote was pushed one way as opposed to another, when it’s clear by both inflated voting numbers that it most likely evened out.
2) You keep the commenter vote open longer than 180 minutes. Off the top of my head, people that didn’t vote: mcboomofdoom, mitch cumstein, Zou Dave. The fact that I can name three relatively active members of the community that didn’t vote without thinking too hard is an indictment of the process.
That’s two solutions.

1) It’s hard for me to fathom that a 60-vote swing in the span of one hour with an average of about 9-10 visits on RMN at a time (generally 4-5 of whom were directed into the archives by means of different web searches) is “evened out.”
2) That I can allow, if the people oblige. If I get three “aye” votes, we’ll open the voting for the full period tomorrow, further delaying the other semifinal. However, for the sake of the revote only, this comment-based system stands. We’ll go back to poll voting with the other matchups in hopes that cooler RMN heads will prevail.
So, I ask, are there enough people wanting to reopen the thread tomorrow to allow those who have not voted to vote?
I just want to say...
…that I’m really happy I’m not running this competition. Me, right now:

and by the way...
…my own personal nickname for Justin Safford right now: Sweet Saffy Prince.

Then explain how Party Starter got 174 votes, exactly 100 more than it got in its first round match-up.

Last night, Bowers slowly came back...
…he was down 20, then 18, then 15, etc., then up 4, then up like 8 when I went to bed. He made a 30-vote swing in about five hours. And then Saffy made a 60-vote swing in one hour, at the same time that the same IP address was hitting the system 60 times in an hour. It’s pretty clear that someone was jamming the system. That said, if everybody else wants to reopen the vote, that’s fine too.
Then again, we’re fighting over meme’s here. :-)

I would go with an "aye" for No. 2
I usually vote on this stuff but didn’t get around to it. Not that I’m as active as ZouDave or mcboom, but …

If 2000 taught us nothing...
It did teach us that (A) Larry Smith got lucky with Corby Jones & Devin West on his squad, and (B) every voice should be heard. I, therefore, say that RMN should extend the voting period so all true Rockheads have a chance to cast their vote…

IT IS THE ONLY CURE FOR SWINE FLU!!!!! ARGGGGHHHHHH
Bacon is officially pissed and is now taking vengance on this planet.
I'm sorry ght, but I've read all the Meme Madness ...
… I just haven’t voted on any of them. But if I were to vote, I’d probably vote for Safford. So I don’t know if that helps or hurts.

That's fine.
I was just using you, someone who is relatively active in the community, as an example.

Do you have to roll with a thread on this or can it just be voted on by polling?
I get that there was a problem, but then again, it’s an effing meme, which isn’t going to change much. Asian Kid will still smoke (INSERT MEME).
We're in this deep.
Might as well see it through for this semifinal.
[/it’s the offseason and we have NOTHING to talk about so we’re picking fights about nicknames to pass the time. God, I miss football season.]
IT"S ALL THAT GUY WHO JAMMED THE BALLOT BOX'S FAULT!!!!!!1!!!111!1
GAHHHHHHHHH1!!!! This is truly madness.
Vote early, vote often
Oh yeah.

For the record...
even though it is closed and I missed all the drama…
I would have voted for Party Starter.
Of all the meme’s I’ve seen on RMN, it is the only one that made me say… “what the hell?”, realize it is someone I knew (Conan), see the real-life version (the commercial) and instantly be amused. Thank you, Mr. Meme creator!
is there an official meme madness logo?
Because there should be? Is it even copyrighted yet? There’s some MAJOR work to be done here.
you are correct, sir
something like this, with the words on the sides replaced by “meme madness.” of course, there’s a very good chance this image is copyrighted.

capital letters suck.
Based on this picture alone...
I regret not voting for Saffy.

all I've got to say is
1. I haven’t had internet access all day, so I’m behind the times
2. I’m 2 hours behind Columbia, and I am on late in the evening my time, which makes it even later there. I very rarely see anyone posting around midnight Columbia time, and to see over a hundred votes cast in about 40 minutes around that time is highly suspicious.
3. I cannot say the exact number of votes, but if there’s a math major who wants to work it out, go for it. I believe when I saw it at the 300 votes mark (which was right at the beginning of the ballot stuffing), but Laffy Saffy was down 10 votes, 51% to 48% (I’m sure something got rounded in there)…I know there was a 10 vote spread.
4. It’s nice to have something to get upset about at the end of April on a college blog.
