I guess neither of those are surprises...
…Appleton might have played next year if Collins were going pro, but I don’t think that’s going to happen, so I guess it’s a good move…

Thrust nunchuk upward!
Having a freshman transfer . . .
isn’t unusual. Having a junior leave is rare. To paraphrase Richard and Linda Thompson, did he jump or was he pushed?

In fairness, his situation is quite unique.
He is a JUCO transfer, and last year was his first year. He committed early on, before we even knew Tyshawn Taylor was a possibility (he had originally committed to Marquette, then re-opened his recruitment once Tom Crean left for Indiana). Effectively, in our 4-guard rotation, it would have been him and Travis Releford battling it out, a battle that Appleton just might have won. So, it made sense. However, once Taylor entered the mix, nearly all of his potential PT went kaput, and he only came in late in games and in an effort to shut down somebody unconscious (Denis Clemente in Manhattan and Ben Woodside in the NCAA Tournament).
Don’t get me wrong, I feel terrible about the whole situation. Terrible. Quintrell leaving makes sense and has been rumored forever, but I wish Appleton could stay. But if he wants to play, he wants to play.
Now, he might have been pushed. It’s conceivable. But it isn’t necessarily a given.
That is all.
Wow, I'm really surprised ...
