Stan Kroenke increases stake in Arsenal FC
Okay, this is off topic, but he does live in Columbia, and his wife's sister's husband is Bill Laurie who donated a chunk of money for the arena. I'm just curious if anyone cares, or if anyone wishes he'd invest money into Mizzou like Bill does, or what? Obviously, his son, Josh, played basketball for Mizzou and his other son plays for Southwest Missouri State.
Frankly, it annoys me on a couple of levels. I wish he'd invest some money into Mizzou, I wish he'd invest his money into US Soccer, and (as a fan of English football) I wish Americans would stay the hell out of England.

I had seen that this was coming
a while back on setantasports.com… so this isn’t necessarily a surprise to me. As far as it goes, I really do wish that some of these folks would put their money into MLS or the US Nats… but it is their money and they can (obviously) do what they want. Frankly, I wish that, all things being equal, Kroenke had put his money into Newcastle as they are dollar to a doughnut to go down… but that’s another story. For what it’s worth, there is American money from worse places that could be going into Arsenal (or Liverpool, for that matter)… at least it’s not a nouveau riche that doesn’t really have anything left that is going over and trying to play the American version of the Russian Tycoon. Would it be great if that $$ was going into Mizzou, it would be awesome, obviously, but at this point in time, Arsenal is not a very bad investment on a worldwide scope.

not to turn this into a soccer discussion
but yeah, he’s been trying to buy out most of Arsenal for a few years now, but has always been rebuffed. Arsenal is a publicly traded corporation (similar to Green Bay, I suppose), and he held around 12.5% of the shares, now more than that.
I agree that it might make sense to get Newcastle, but I don’t think Mike Ashley really wants to sell them, though if they are relegated later this month, the supporters may force him to. The difference between Newcastle and Arsenal is he already owns shares of Arsenal, and Arsenal are playing in brand-new Emirates Stadium, which is a leading candidate for just about everything international in the London area (Wembley too, of course).
It should also be noted that he owns the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche and the Colorado Rapids, as well as Pepsi Arena in Denver and Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, so he has invested some money into MLS, but I don’t hear anything about the Rapids going after the international names like LA Galaxy (Beckham), Chicago (Blanco) or New York (Angel).
Having said all that, and to get back to the point, if he were to dump, let’s say $50 million on Mizzou athletics, what could/should be built/renovated/upgraded?

Green Tennis Facilities
Should be close to the top of the list. That place is a dump. Girls Tennis is a division I varsity sport. They don’t even have a scoreboard.
Or
Stank…rename something after him, but that astroturf needs to go….he could buy some field turf to go on there and prevent half of the knee injuries on campus.

the stankowski astro turf is being replaced this summer...
…don’t remember what they’re replacing it with (not field turf, but close I think), but they are indeed knocking that one off your list…

Thrust nunchuk upward!
I wold LOVE to see Stank get upgraded.
Glad to see the turf is getting upgraded. It can be nasty out there right now when it’s wet. Having a track that isn’t a rectangle out there would be nice too, but I’m just getting selfish.
wouldn't mind him being the big investor st. louis needs to get an mls team.
but what the hey, arsenal’s on a whole different level and i can’t blame him for wanting to be involved with the big dogs.
capital letters suck.
Stan Kroenke is smart
Look, investing money now a-days is a complex/tricky thing. And the man is looking to make more money. English football is popular, profitable, and long-term. It would be like investing heavy in Ameren or Exelon or Con Ed. Everyone needs power. In England (aside from dental insurance) everyone needs football and a pub to watch it in.
