Softball Live Thread: Big 12 Championship

Game #1 – Mizzou scored two in the 2nd off a Lindsey Ubrun 2-run blast to take a 2-1 lead. Stacy Delaney was very solid against OU, pitching 5 and only giving up 1 run on 2 hits with 2 walks and 3 K’s. Kristen Nottelman came on in the 6th for the 2-inning save and got through the 6th fine. However, the wheels fell off in the top of the 7th, and she gave up 5 runs before OU would finally be retired and would go on to win 6-2.

Game #2 – Chelsea Thomas was just making her return from a lengthy injury, and though she went all 7, she was touched for 4 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits with 2 walks and no K’s. DJ Mathis went 7 innings in back to back days for OU, and gave up HR’s to Ubrun and Minner. OU got out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st for the 2nd straight day and extended it to 2-0 in the 3rd. OU would extend it again to 3-0 in the 4th but Mizzou would answer with a run in the bottom of the inning. OU tacked on the 4th run in the 6th, and Mizzou would close the scoring with one run in the bottom of the inning again. 4-2 was the final.

Mathis went 4 yesterday against ISU before being pulled for Kirsten Allen. She then went the full 7 against UT, and was touched for 2 runs on 7 hits with 5 walks and 7 K’s. Delaney went 6 yesterday, while Thomas went only 4 (with Hainey and Nottelman each going 1). I dont know what the play is here for who starts the game. I am almost inclined to say it is Delaney as she did pitch well against them. However, the hook will likely be VERY quick.

Good for Mizzou to get the lead, but that’s a MAJOR opportunity blown only getting one home with the bases loaded with no outs.

Though you would have liked to see more than one run score with bases juiced and nobody out.
