Mizzou Links, 5-20-09
For a brief moment, baseball takes precedent over softball because the Big 12 Tournament starts in just a few hours! Links!
- Mutigers.com: Tigers open Big 12 Tourney Wednesday
- The Trib: Look out for unexpected
- The Missourian: Missouri baseball team eager for Big 12 tournament
- PowerMizzou: Tigers prepare for Big 12 Tournament
- KC Star: Folgia mirrors Missouri's rise off the deck
Of course, we've still got some more softball links as well...the Post-Dispatch asks MU players about UCLA's softball tradition. Predictably, the Tigers are unimpressed.
Need a football recruiting fix? PowerMizzou takes a look at Mizzou's top defensive line targets for 2010. Of course, after that story was published, another name emerged: Midwest City (OK) DT Dominique Jones, who got a Mizzou offer at practice yesterday afternoon. Mizzou's got a pretty good history of success with Midwest City products, be it Lorenzo Williams, Tony Palmer, or my parents, so come on down, Mr. Jones!
While we're at it, PM put together a basketball hot board as well. As I've mentioned before, my dream class: Pressey, Kreklow, Black.
Finally, in case you missed it...Will Franklin: Oakland Raider.

by the way...
…sorry about the sudden lack of Mizzou History posts. Between a visit from the parents last weekend, our (finally) moving into the new house this coming weekend, and my having to write about 11,000 words for the Football Outsiders book this week, I’ve fallen behind. I’ll make it up to you, baby, I promise.

Also of note...
T Kyle King at DawgSports makes the case for starting the year with a tough game. We’re dealing with the smallest of sample sizes here, but you could make the case that playing Illinois helps Missouri a bit.
Years Playing Illinois
2002: 5-7
2003: 8-5
2007: 12-2
2008: 10-4
Win %: .660
Years Not Playing Illinois
2001: 4-7
2004: 5-6
2005: 7-5
2006: 8-5
Win %: .511
Of course, Mizzou was going to be good in 2007 and 2008 (and probably 2003) with or without Illinois, and they were going to stink in 2001 (Pinkel’s first year) no matter what, but still…it certainly doesn’t hurt to start the season with a big game, I guess*.
* Correction: It doesn’t hurt to start with a win in a big game. Losing is a different story.
