NCAA Track Championships - Day 1
As far as I can tell, it is going to be a busy day for many of the Tiger participants down at the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Of the six competing (in seven events as Krishna Lee is throwing both the discus and the hammer), five will be in action today. Here is the schedule for today, via this linked pdf
- 10:30 a.m. - Men's Hammer Qualifying (Chris Rohr)
- 11:00 a.m. - Men's Decathlon Day 1 (Lars Rise)
- 1:00 p.m. - Women's Hammer Qualifying (Krishna Lee)
- 4:30 p.m. - Men's Pole Vault (Brian Hancock)
- 5:30 p.m. - Women's 800 meter Qualifying (Shannon Leinart)
From this website, there will evidently be video available, as well as live results (once the link opens). The only question is...are the times central or eastern? Arkansas is obviously central, but the only reference made on the websites is that the video coverage will start at 10:30 a.m. ET...so check at 9:30 and at 10:30 I guess :-)

Lars Rise with a GREAT start in the decathlon...
They start with the 100 meters, and Rise takes a CHUNK of time off of his personal best (listed on MUTigers.com as 11.35) with an 11.03. Good enough for 15th (obviously not one of his stronger events as compared to the field) and solid start. Next up will be the long jump, where his PB is 23-8

Another PB for Rise
He finishes 2nd in the long jump with a distance of 24-5.75. No running total at this point, but I dont know that he could have asked for a better start.
Event #3 is the shot put, where his PB is 54-5.5
Alright…MUTigers.com is not quite up to date, but as far as I can tell, both efforts so far are PB’s. He went 11.06 at the Big XII’s in the 100, and went 24 and change there as well. So if nothing else, he is besting his pace he set there.

Rise WINS the shot put by almost a meter
He throws 52-3.75 (PB was about two feet further)
Next up will be the high jump, where I believe his PB is 1.96m
Still no cumulative score to be had. He finished Day 1 of the Big XII’s at 4107 and is currently ahead of that pace by 7 points.

Rise stumbles in the high jump, coming in last
he responds and does alright in the 400, as he breaks 50 seconds…no day 1 scores have been posted though

Rohr qualifies quickly and easily for final round
His first throw is good enough for 3rd overall, as he does not even take his other two throws. Henning from LSU and Lomnicky from Va Tech are 1-2 with him, all qualifying easily. It should be an interesting final on Friday afternoon (1pm)

Sweet updates!!!!!!
I had thought they were working on Rises’ speed, and with a 11.0 ish 100m you can see why. Longjumping 24 feet and change should suggest some great turn over, I wonder if his starting outta the blocks is shaky. I would just guess if someone would jump 20-24 feet would be in the some what faster 10.8 or under in the 100m. But who knows……
Mizzou track athletes are dominate in throws and to a lesser extent field events, so it makes sense with his turn in so far in the 1st day of the decathlon.
Good luck Rise, I would guess his 110HH time wont push him up in the comp, unless he is already good at hurdling, just by going by the slower 100m time, and the 110HH are all in the start and first 3 hurdles. But he’ll probably make up ground in the pole vault.

Lee qualifies 6th in the hammer throw
and given the distances, she is pretty solid to become an All-American. She did so on her second toss, fouling on her third

Leinart's time in the 800 is 19th of 27...
I dont think that will be good enough to get her to the semis.

She was the first one out. That’s got to be a tough miss too, as the the cut was nearly 2 seconds faster than last year.
Weather is wreaking havoc down there. The meet is 3 hours behind and they’re about to start it up again at 10:15 pm on a rolling schedule. Not the ideal scenario for a national meet.
Brian Hancock does get through to the finals...
qualifying 15th of 16
