Beatdown Fridays!!

You’re doing it right! Another great one Dave! (you can tell I have had a lot of caffeine today due to the frequency of exclamation marks)

One of my first efforts

I guess this was actually the 2nd one I ever did. This started the “your music sucks” kick. I had one guy tell me I was harming children by using Limp Bizkit songs, and he wasn’t being ironic in any way. That was pretty entertaining.

If you notice on CD’s TD run in the 4th quarter (towards the end of the video), we’re lucky Saunders’ knee wasn’t completely destroyed. He was busy making that CB his girlfriend and that other defender just blasted him in the back of the legs diving at Daniel. That would have dropped a lesser man, but quite frankly there’s a lot of men lesser than Saunders.

And I’m pretty sure UNM’s QB changed his number to 39 after this game because that was the only way people recognized him. Christ, Brian Smith was ALL OVER HIM in this game!

yeah, that was Brian Smith's shining moment.

He was unbelievable in that game. It does make you wonder what difference he might have made the rest of the season after breaking his hip against KSU…we went 1-4 after he got hurt…

He would have helped SIGNIFICANTLY in the Sun Bowl.

I don’t know that we would have beaten kansas any worse with him. I don’t think we would have beaten OU or Nebraska with his mere presence because it was our offenses that really let us down on those days.

The ISU game, well it was a 1-score game so it’s easy to assume that Brian Smith would have helped but again it was our offense that let us down that day. Our defense did its job holding ISU to 21 points. They ran the ball all day against us anyway, and Smith wasn’t a run stopper.

But against Oregon State in the Sun Bowl? Yeah, Smith’s presence in the 4th quarter when we had the 14 point lead would have been huge. OSU was passing all day, and Smith was a human pass rush (whatever that means). He would have harrassed what’s-his-name into more hurried throws or a sack or something that would have changed that game, no doubt about it.

Yeah, but would Br. Smith have helped us ...

… with the 17 instant replay reverses that went against us that game?

I’m hard on officials, I know that, but damn that Sun Bowl seemed like it had a lot of 50-50 calls that went against us that day. I’m still not convince that Yvenson Bernard ever actually scored on the 2-pointer.

No biggie though. It didn’t affect us in 2007 and I doubt we would have gotten any more recruits based off one Sun Bowl victory.

yeah, I'm not bitter about that game...

…at least, not compared to my bitterness level about other losses, but yeah…we got hosed.

1) OSU fumbled at the MU 1 in the first half, and the guy was ruled down (and it was therefore un-reviewable), and they scored the next play.

2) We executed the most perfect surprise onsides kick ever to start the second half, and they reviewed it and said Crossett touched the ball early, even though he clearly hadn’t (love it when they review a correct call and turn it incorrect…I swear they’re looking at replays on a 12-inch television from 1970).

3) Not that replay could have helped, but the more I watched the two-point conversion, the less-convinced I was that he got in.

That was such a fun game, but if any of those three calls—especially the first two, since they were more clearly incorrect—then we win that game.

You are absolutely correct ...

… and don’t forget Willy Mo’s interception that they overturned (though the play on the field looked to have been ruled correctly) … we didn’t actually see it live because President Ford died (I think it was Ford) and CBS was covering the funeral. But the replays later showed that Willy did indeed pick it off (and it was called that way on the field). But they overturned it from the booth.

Nice job

As a Marching Mizzou alum, gotta say I get a kick out of hearing JBs (the drum cadence) at the beginning
