While certainly nothing close to a doctor...
I think he will unfortunately fall out of the first round, though I think he simply needs a little bit of time off and would likely retain his full value. He has a lot of skills which are not teachable, and I think someone is going to get a great value sometime in the 2nd round perhaps.

YES!!!!
Good luck to Crow
With his ‘tangibles’ vs ‘intangibles’ what are the guesses on the ETA to the majors for him?

I suppose it depends on when he signs...
I think he could really do himself a favor and not wait until the last day when a lot of people do, just to get the work in. The year in indy league did not hurt him, but I think he could really capitalize on it if he gets in a solid half-year of work this year, followed by a good fall league. There was some talk on MLB.com that his live arm may lead to his becoming a reliever early on (ala Scherzer), and if that is the case, he MIGHT see the club late next season. If the Royals want him to extend to a starter to start his career, I would think the start of the 2011 season would be about right. Crow is a little older than most picks, so that could work to is advantage in terms of time and coming up quickly.

Congrats, Kyle. Though I think you should still go back to school and aim for Top 5 next year.
Ahem.

He wont have to pitch in the Homer Dome...
not that anyone knows what type of park Target Field will be, but I would have to think it will pitch better than what they have right now :-)

And my head just exploded
[insert 75,000 profanities here that Gibson went to the Twins]
Chicago White Sox Examiner — Your what hurts?
This draft reminded me to check on some kids from my High School
Aaron and Jake Shafer. Younger brothers of a guy I was friends with in HS.
Aaron went 2nd round to the CUBS last year (ick)
his brother Jake went 41st round to the YANKEES!
Man, talk about the two worst teams possible from the perspective of their High School (in the STL Metro area).
Nomination for the "It Was Only A Matter Of Time..." Award: Carlos Zambrano was suspended for "Inappropriate and violent actions on the field and in the dugout."
Only guy crazier than Carlos Zambrano in baseball is Julian Tavarez
I assume that was last year's draft?
The 41st round of this one will be some time on Thursday I think

Gibson on MLB Network right now
Repping the Mizzou shirt
Thanks God
Thinks the injury is the reason he slipped. Talks about how some misinformation was out there hurting him (seems like a Mizzou/Draft problem).
5-week thing, but had planned to take 5-7 weeks off as it was
The thought was there about him slipping through the 1st round
completely honored
wants to make the league as quick as he can
lucky and blessed
almost every club probably called looking for his medical records…pretty cool feeling.
teams said if they could not get the MRI, they would not draft him
will be ready to go and throw in 5 weeks.

Gibson's such a class act
Getting to talk to him after games this year as a reporter was extremely, extremely enjoyable. Even though he’s with my #1 most disliked team in baseball, I’ll still be pulling for him. That’s a great system for him, too—they preach throwing strikes, and with Gibson’s stuff if he can do that…he’s going to be great.

Wow...all kids were invited to come to the draft...and ONE made the trip
Mike Trout from NJ made the trek…and was finally awarded as a pick by the LAAngels. Got a great hand by the folks in-house and was the ONLY player to shake the commish’s hand. Good for him to sit there through it and get the spotlight like he has right now.

So what's next for Gibson?
Does he sign as the #22 pick with the Twins?
Does he return to Mizzou and play his senior year?
Does he go to the Independent League like Aaron Crow?
Like The Boy, I think he should return for his senior year, but what is most likely? If he came back to Mizzou or went Independent League, where does he rank among likely draftees next year?
I'd give it a 98% chance he signs with the Twins
I don’t think returning for his senior year would accomplish a whole lot except adding an extra zero to his first contract. As much as I hate hate hate to say it, Gibson was drafted by a HELL of an organization. He’d be stupid to turn it down and be drafted higher by a franchise without the kind of track record of developing good pitching like the Twins. The best thing he can do is sign with the Twins and peak at AA in 2010 before making a move up to the majors in 2011, if everything goes smoothly for him.
I also get the feeling Gibson isn’t after the money in this case. If he fell to the second round, he’d have a legit reason to go play independent ball, but he still was taken in the first round and will get his money.
Plus, if he re-entered the draft next year, it’d be no guarantee that he’d be taken higher—just look at what happened to Tanner Scheppers this year.

I'd give it a 99.4% chance....
…he’s not coming back. But I can dream.

I'm keeping an eye on the draft tracker to see if anybody goes soon...
I’d expect Lollis to pop up at some point in the next few rounds. It’ll be interesting to see if Senne/Folgia/Coleman go anytime soon given that they’ll all probably return for their senior seasons, although some team could throw a lot of money at Folgia and try to change his mind.

looks like teams were not too scared off by his injury this season
I cannot imagine him coming back with that sort of selection level

Interesting...I'd have to think it'd be better for him to come back for a year, but...
If Seattle throws enough money at him, he could sign. If he can prove that he can hit next year, a switch-hitting catcher with great game-calling abilities should be a top-6 round pick.

while I agree with that...I have to think Seattle values him enough
in making this pick to put the right amount of money on the table to make that decision for him. Will see how it goes.

Kyle Gibson on The Closers today at 4:30
you can listen live at kfru.com
Any questions for him? How many frozen waffles did you eat to bulk up?
The sleeper has awoken. . .awakened. . .he woke up.
I'd be curious about signability and his desire to get going ASAP
…once his arm heals of course, but given his age and college polish, getting some good months of work in this year could really help him hit the league maybe by 2011

He's said he's taking the rest of the year off
which definitely is the smart decision.
Also, minor laff: the Angels just took Jake Locker in the 10th round.

since last night on MLB TV he said he had been planning to take about 6 weeks off as it was before the injury…but did not mention anything about the rest of the year

As far as I can tell...it's been a quiet day for the Tigers
They are in round 18 of 30 right now, and only Coleman back in round 9 is who I believe has gone to this point.

Big12 Hardball has a running list of all Big 12 players taken
I like this
Round 15
David Narodowski SS (456) – Kansas, Jr. – Arizona (First Jayhawk taken)
The sleeper has awoken. . .awakened. . .he woke up.
This just in
Round 27
Kyle Mach 3B (807) – Missouri, Sr. – San Fransico
The sleeper has awoken. . .awakened. . .he woke up.
I think teams must know something about Senne/Folgia...
as in, they’re coming back for their senior years. That’s the only reason I can think of that explains why they haven’t been picked yet.
Also, I don’t have a ton of reasoning for why Ryan Lollis hasn’t been picked yet. He hit pretty well this year and was a 19th rounder last year, so it’s hard to understand why we’re in the 30th round and he hasn’t been picked yet.

That's it for today. Hope some more tigers get the call tomorrow in rounds 31-50.

MU recruit Eric Anderson was picked in the 28th round...
but reports are that he reaffirmed his committment to TJ before the draft, so those in the know are not concerned about him not landing at Mizzou

Final Day of the draft brings a couple more picks from Mizzou
from Big12Hardball
Round 32 – Aaron Senne RF (972) – Missouri, Jr. – Minnesota
(nice to see him taken by his hometown team)
Round 37 – Ryan Lollis RF (1107) – Missouri, Sr. – San Fransico
Twins & Giants love them some Tigers.
The sleeper has awoken. . .awakened. . .he woke up.
Folgia went 38th (I think) to the Tribe
Hopefully Folgia won’t want to flee to the Cleve.
Chicago White Sox Examiner — Your what hurts?
I can't see that happening, but who knows

The only way Senne or Folgia end up signing...
…is if the Twins or Tribe fail to sign a few of the higher picks and need something to show for the draft. Never too likely.
