Sept. 19 Night Shift Open Thread
Know what would be fun? An open thread to discuss the night games tonight.
The big one is Texas Tech traveling to Austin to face Texas, but there are some other good ones going on, including Cincinnati vs. Oregon State, LSU vs. UL-Lafayette, BYU vs. Florida State and TCU taking on my mom's alma mater, Southwest Texas State University (or Texas State, if you hate tradition).
Discuss.

BYU better start that comeback if they want to be complaining about getting snubbed from the National Championship
There should be some awesome stuff happening in the polls after all this.

Is it just me...
…or is Colt McCoy really good at the tough throws, and inordinately bad at the easy ones?
Field goal for Texas makes it 10-3 Horns.

Colorado State 35, Nevada 20
Still worried about Friday night?
The sleeper has awoken. . .awakened. . .he woke up.
Modestly worried.
Only because it’s Gabbo’s first true road game. That said, as you guys said in the podcast, Mizzou is a considerably better team. If they play their game, they win, period.

Home Opener,
Chance to salvage some respect on national tv,
Friday night shenanigans,
we better be worried.

True...
…but as Bill or Seth said, these are all circumstantial things. On the field, between the lines, Missouri is significantly better than Nevada. This is, to me, more of a test of the team’s mental strength than physical.
"I love winning." - rockin_rangers, on May 16, 2009
USC is better than UW
But those “circumstantial things” can quickly close advantages.
The sleeper has awoken. . .awakened. . .he woke up.
by SleepyFloyd7 on Sep 19, 2009 8:24 PM CDT up reply actions
Not arguing that.
Just saying that if this game comes down to just what happens between the lines (which Pinkel will obviously emphasize), then Mizzou wins handily.
If they start letting the crowd or the cameras or the free-flowing beer get to them, Nevada’s got a real chance.
"I love winning." - rockin_rangers, on May 16, 2009
Especially if this guy

is on the sidelines protecting Pinkel.

If we didnt rank teams in the preseason – the top-25 would be completely different. The U may be number 1!
Drink Budweiser!
I want to compliment Bill C....
…because, as I just texted to RPT, with each passing game, his preseason predictions regarding Colt McCoy and Texas are looking more and more prescient.

This Tech - Horns game is a dogfight
Offenses just don’t seem to be clicking… “defensive battle” or so the announcers say. Looks to me like some poor passing and lack of run blocking. Sound familiar?

My "show-prep" notes on CSU/NEV
Colorado State 35-20 Nevada – the Rams picked off 2 Colin Kaepernick passes and recovered 3 fumbles (resulting in 28 points)
Vai Taua rushed for 95 yards (with 31 yd and 2 yd TD’s)
Brandon Wimberly had a 13-yard TD catch as time expired (7 catches for 104 yards).
Colin Kaepernick – 24 yds rushing, 251 passing – much of that late (2 INT & a fumble)
Nevada did not score until early in the 3rd quarter (first score of season – beaten at Notre Dame 35-0)
Despite an extra week to prepare, Nevada not good.
The sleeper has awoken. . .awakened. . .he woke up.
I can't figure out if you think Mizzou's going to win or lose.

I think they win
but they will have to be much more sharp on offense.
it will be a 3 1/2 quarter fight – a 7/8 fight.

I understand he's killing Marquez right now.
Please, please, please, please, please can we have Pacquiao-Mayweather? PLEEEEEASE?!?
"I love winning." - rockin_rangers, on May 16, 2009
I posted a link above
dunno what language it’s in, but it’s boxing, do you really need to hear them talk?
Mayweather looks to have the upper hand
at the end of the 9th…
It should be noted that I completely forgot about the fight and missed the first 6 rounds
Give Marquez a lot of credit; he's battling.
But Mayweather is simply the better fighter. He’s outclassing Marquez right now, which makes a possible matchup with Manny Pacquiao even more scintillating.
"I love winning." - rockin_rangers, on May 16, 2009
I noticed that
as soon as I turned the fight on…he’s not protecting himself though….Marquez could sneak something in on him
Marquez is throwing more punches...
…but Mayweather is landing more of them. He’s hitting his spots. And wow, he is so…damn…fast…
And Marquez…I mean, dude, you’re down. Big. You need a KO to win. Why are you continuing to eat jabs?
"I love winning." - rockin_rangers, on May 16, 2009
Mayweather had him against the ropes in the 10th
and got 4 or 5 quick, powerful jabs on Marquez before Marquez moved out of the way.
K-State and UCLA are about to KO me with suck.

Mayweather will win in a unanimous decision...
…if there’s any justice. He DOMINATED this fight from bell to bell.
"I love winning." - rockin_rangers, on May 16, 2009
Followed the punch-by-punch analysis from ESPN for the first rounds.
118-109, 120-107, 119-108 for Mayweather.
"I love winning." - rockin_rangers, on May 16, 2009
sounds about right
if the first 6 were like the last 6.
I retract what I said earlier about Pacquiao/Mayweather, I drool thinking about that fight.
You know...
…if it happens (or when?), Pacquiao will be a slight favorite.
But give me Mayweather. The dude is so calculating, so fast, and so devastating when he hits his spots that I don’t think anyone can beat him.
I honestly think he’s the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world right now. For realz. And that’s no disrespect to Manny Pac, who’s an INCREDIBLE fighter. But man…when Mayweather’s on (which is all the time), he’s untouchable.
"I love winning." - rockin_rangers, on May 16, 2009
I agree that Pac will be the favorite
But after watching all 1+ rounds of his fight vs. Ricky Hatton, I don’t think Mayweather would last 5 rounds let alone 12 against Pac.
Ricky Hatton's overrated and past his prime, in my humble opinion.
That said, Pacquiao is the king of the mountain right now. I just think Mayweather can — and would — beat him.
