Rock M Roll Call '09
It's back again. It's like the census, but annual and more awesome.
It's the Rock M Roll Call.
If you aren't familiar with the Rock M Roll Call, here's what I had to say about it last year:
This is something I've wanted to do for awhile, but with football season inching closer, I figured it's time to take the first official Rock M Roll Call.
At its core, the roll call is simply a way for everyone here on RMN to introduce themselves and establish some sense of who they are, where they're from, and their affiliation to the University of Missouri. For an idea of what we're shooting for, check out what Double T Nation did early in July.
Whether you joined Rock M from its first day last October or are brand spankin' new to the RMN community, join us in the comments and give us a little insight about who you are when it comes to Mizzou fandom.
In addition, to get this post to stick at the top of the FanPosts throughout the [early part of the] season, everyone please take the time to click the "Rec" button below the text to recommend this post. Hopefully, this will entice every RMN member to join in the Roll Call.
We encourage all who participated last year to do so again. Here's this year's list of starter questions so we can get to better know the community:
- Where are you from originally, and where do you currently reside?
- What is your connection to the University of Missouri? Alum? Student? Raised as a fan? Randomly adopted Mizzou? Degenerate gambler who made a killing on the '07 Tigers against the spread?
- For what other teams have you developed a rooting interest and why?
- What is the best Mizzou sporting event you've seen in person?
- God will grant Mizzou a national championship in either football or basketball and YOU have to decide which. What title are you taking?
FanPosts may be posted by any RMN member and may not reflect the views of the management staff of Rock M Nation or SB Nation.

1. I’m originally from the suburbs of Chicago…and that is where I live today.
2. I’m the what seems to be rare out of state Mizzou alum (2005) who didn’t go to MU for Journalism. I followed my sister’s footsteps to Mizzou after a failed attempt at getting into U of I…and also, wanting to go to school somewhere new and different. Couldn’t have picked a better place to spend four years of my life. I heard recently that Boulevard is going to start distributing in Chicago and I couldn’t be happier!
3. Naturally, a plethora of Chicago teams. The Bears will always be number one in my heart…with the Bulls and White Sox not far behind.
4. The 2003 victory over Nebraska…which also turned out to be my most memorable night of college. I still remember watching the replay of the game on TBS (I believe it was TBS) late that same night in my garage with my buddies on Pimlico Court.
5. Basketball. As great as the last two football seasons were with real thoughts of a national title, for me, this past basketball season cememented Mizzou bball for me. The day Mizzou gets to the Final Four, you bet your ass I’ll be there no matter the price!
read an article a few months back
about the difficulty new beers face trying to break into the chicago market, which has unique and insane barriers to entry. it was fascinating.
1. I grew up in Fayette, about 30 minutes outside of Columbia. My uncle is a grad assistant (or something…been there since 1971, I think) in the Agronomy department and my aunt has previously done work at the University as well. I left Mid-MO about 10 years ago for the Marines and I spent most of my enlistment in San Diego. After I got out, I lived in Columbia for a year and moved back to San Diego, where I live now.
2. My uncle has always had season tix for football and basketball, though I rarely go with him. I’m just a local that grew up a Mizzou fan.
3. Cards and Royals were right next to each other on AM radio and I remember going to bed listening to both teams on the radio. When I got into football at 4 or 5 years old, the Chiefs and Cardinals sucked, but the Bears were on every Sunday and I loved watching Sweetness, so I’m a Bears fan. I also support local teams here in San Diego like the Padres and Chargers. I also spend most Saturday mornings supporting Manchester United. I work my ass off every year to watch as many United games as possible.
4. Not a particular event, but a season. 1993-1994 men’s basketball rolled through the Big 8 at 14-0, lost in the Big 8 tournament, but got a #1 seed in the NCAA’s. As awesome as 2008-2009 was, it was all unexpected and had that “Cinderella” feeling to it. 93-94 seemed more like it was an expectation to do great things, rather than an alignment of the stars.
5. Basketball. As much as I love football, I’d like to see the basketball team win a title first. It will do little to ease the pain of Tyus Edney or the disappointment of the teams in the late 80’s, but the basketball team has been alot closer to bringing one home than the football team over the last 30 years or so, and I think the title should be theirs.
1.Originally from small town Washington (the state) just moved to Seattle 6 months ago
2. Mizzou was the only grad school that excepted me (screw off Michigan!!!) and spent 5 years doing the thesis, met my wife at Mizzou whom went to undergrad+ grad there as well. Sidenote; My wifes’ older sister went to Mizzou, mother, and grandmother….while her father got his grad degree from kU. Ah yes….good times.
3. I grew up watching Michigan football with my dad (he went there), then in the mid-80s we lived in Florida, so I have a soft spot for Florida, State, and Incarcerated U. Grew up a die hard Mariners fan since 2nd grade, and since they are a mirror likeness to the Royals, I have followed them both close since living in CoMo. (The cardinals red was too close to nebraska red, allergic….my dad hated nebs from being a Mich fan, so my hatred for nu was ingrained since birth, it’s beautiful.)
4. The ’03 nebraska game, was epic. I did not go to sleep that night, just rolled over to Waffle House after the Harpos goal post migration.
5. Basketball, just to keep those shoe wearing euphemism for terrorists in check.
NCAA Football; better than everything. That is an understatement.

Sleepy here. . .
1. Born in (the) Ohio, raised deep-ina-hearta Texas, done radio time in Baton Rouge, Portland (the Oregon one), and now here.
2. My wife (of 14 years, yipes) grew up in Fulton, grandparents are here, moved the family here 4 years ago. I dived into the Black & Gold pool immediately. Until the Tigers lost to Okie St. last year, I had never seen them lose a football game (17-0). I think I moved to town at the right time.
3. My dad was in the Band at tOSU, so I still love the Buckeyes. From my formative years in Texas, I love the Astros. Outside of those 2, I have had “sportsfan affairs” with the Rockets and Oilers (screw you Bud Adams), Portland Trailblazers, Rice Owls (I was a ballboy for the basketball & football teams in the early 80’s – Phi Slamma Jamma came in once a year), and the English Premiere League.
4. (listed in order of significance for me) 2007 KU at Arrowhead (I was on the field for the end of the game), 2009 KU basketball game at Mizzou Arena, 2008 Texas baseball game where the Tigers scored 30 on a VERY windy night at Taylor Stadium. (that night at Nebraska last year was pretty freaking fun as well.
The sleeper has awoken. . .awakened. . .he woke up.
oh and #5
Football would be mindshatteringly amazing, but Basketball HAS to be the answer.
The sleeper has awoken. . .awakened. . .he woke up.
1. While I was born in Atlanta and spent portions of my youth living in San Antonio and Detroit, St Louis was and always will be my hometown.
2. Currently a student (journalism, go figure), but a lot of my family either went to, goes to, or works for the university.
3. As a young, rootless lad, I did the easy thing and sat with my father as he watched Nebraska. He went there back in the days of Mike Rozier and Turner Gill, and admittedly it was pretty damn fun to watch Frazier run all over the Fun ‘n’ Gun at that one Orange Bowl. Recently, though, I’ve had to accept the fact that we’re hopelessly divided, and had to look on as my friend swiped my phone last year, called my dad and screamed “ORDER RESTORED!” following the stomping at Lincoln.
Oh yeah, the Cards and Blues, too.
4. The ‘07 Border War (I was sitting about 6 rows up from right where Reesing was sitting, plus it was my birthday) and last year’s KU basketball game (the way Randy Wright yelled “ZAIIIIIIIIIIRRRRREEEEEEE TAAAAYYYYYYLLLLLOOORRRR! TIGERS WIN! TIGERS WIN!” will stay with me for a long time) are big, but a baseball game I went to last year against Oklahoma State where Aaron Crow and Andy Oliver went into a great pitcher’s duel was also fun.
5. Basketball. Some of my earliest memories were with that team (staying up late to watch the Braggin’ Rights overtimes in ‘93, actually getting tickets to see the Corey Tate game, et cetera), and if they were to finally clear that last hurdle I’d probably break down and cry right then and there.
It's a funny name.
1. I’m from Independence, MO originally, and now reside where I can see Jesse Hall from my bedroom window.
2. My parents met at Mizzou, and raised me right. I was Jayhawk-bashing pretty much as soon as I could talk. And now I’m in grad school here.
3. No teams at the same level as the Tigers, but I also have some interest vested in the Royals and the Chiefs.
4. The Armageddon at Arrowhead, hands down. It was so good that, as soon as we got home, my dad and I watched the version we’d recorded on TV. My dad and I were discussing whether we wanted it to be a close game or a blowout, and we commented afterward that we’d gotten the best of both worlds – a blowout the first half, and a close game the second, and the Sod Reesing finish was the best thing ever.
5. My gut reaction is to say football, but that may be just because I’m so absurdly psyched up about the season starting in TWO DAYS! AHHHHH! cough I think football, though. Basketball already has one, right? So sayeth Mr. Atchison.
If there's one thing I've realized this year, it's that I really do hate Cole Aldrich.
1. I was born in NW Indiana, but spent most of the childhood in Muscatine, IA. After stints in Illinois and Minnesota I currently live in Fulton.
2. Started Grad School here in 2001, got Masters and PhD, now working as a Post-doc.
3. Like my Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, I’m a Cubs fan. Also Bears. Growing up in Iowa during the Fry and Dr. Tom years, I’m still an Iowa homer.
4. The 2003 Nebraska game. I wanted to rush the field, but two fellers in my group had pending DWI cases, so they thought getting caught would be bad. Ended up returning home and watched the complete replay of the game, as I was to tired to move.
5. I would say basketball, because it would do wonders for Norm.
I'm the guy that keeps Mr. Death in his pocket.
I love it.
1. I was born in Kansas City to a mother who sneered when she said “Kansas.” It wasn’t about the teams, just about her flaky friends who all did white flight while we stayed in the City. We moved to Dallas and I spent my formative years watching Dallas Cowboy football. Returned to KC for law school and am here for life unless I win the lottery.
2. My boyfriend before my husband was a Beaker and because of the aforementioned sneer of my mother, I could never really hop on board. I graduated from University of North Texas and UMKC and never latched onto their athletics. Then I met my husband who was raised as Mizzou fan although went to school at Cal. Our fourth date was a trip to St. Louis for the 2001 b-ball game with Illinois – his Christmas gift. I watched the Brad Smith coming out party and was hooked. The Quinn Snyder years were tough but what are you going to do.
3. Chiefs & Royals – fucking yikes. I gave up my Dallas Cowboy habit when I left Texas. I love Tiger, Serena and Venus and basically wait out five months of the year for what is going to happen in the next ten days – FOOTBALL!!
4. We traveled to Lubbock in ’06 to see the Tigers beat up the Red Raiders. It was crazy – like two interceptions in a row run back for a touchdown. We tailgated with some family of ours and what a bunch of cocky assholes – I RAN out to the car after the game so I could talk MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF TRASH.
5. I dream quite frequently that Kimmie English wills a Missouri team to the National Championship. I am almost positive it will happen.
These are my kids two years ago. They came to live with us in ’07 as our foster children and we got to adopt them in May of this year. They are Missouri STRONG!

Did they come with the chair?
That would have been awesome!

Andy--01 here
1. Originally from Troy, Missouri, currently reside in Olathe, kansas.
2. I am an Alum of Mizzou, B.S. Comp. Sci ‘01, member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. I lived in Columbia from ’95 – ’04, working for the University for 5 of those years. My mother’s 1st cousin was a Vice Chancellor of the University, so while my parents weren’t huge sports fans, we were always Mizzou fans.
3. Raised 1 hour from Busch Stadium, I am a big fan of the Cardinals and Blues, but I entered Mizzou before getting attached to the Rams, so I’m a bit more of a Chiefs fan. In college, I also root for Oregon track athletes, because of Steve Prefontaine/Bill Bowerman. I root for Pitt State when they’re not playing teams from Missouri.
4. 3-way tie between Mizzou v. Kansas when we beat them by like, 20 (2001?) 2003 Nebraska and 2008 Nebraska. If we had won in 1997 vs. Nebraska, that would be #1
5. That’s tough. Each have their benefits (i.e. NCAA B-Ball is more legit, sticks it more to KU) but I just enjoy being good at football more than being good at basketball.
Nomination for the "It Was Only A Matter Of Time..." Award: Carlos Zambrano was suspended for "Inappropriate and violent actions on the field and in the dugout."
Only guy crazier than Carlos Zambrano in baseball is Julian Tavarez
Ratherfantastic here
1. Born in Kansas City. Currently residing in Lee’s Summit.
2. Raised in a Big 12 family (All parents Grandparents Mizzou alum besides my paternal Grandpa, who went to K-State, and yes, there are kU fans also. It’s a fun family battle) I picked alliances for Mizzou, and also against kU, so I also root for the Wildcats with my gramps, who sounded years younger on the phone when K-State ended the Streak. Currently taking classes in Kansas City, more than likely moving out to K-State in a year or two, though Mizzou’s still an option.
3. Being a KC kid, I root for the Royals and Chiefs, no matter HOW bad they suck at the moment (The Chiefs were in the first Super Bowl, dammit!) My NBA alleigence varies. I root for Orlando because I like Dwight Howard, and I vow to watch JYD play in at least 1 Grizzlies game. Don’t watch hockey or tennis, will ocassionally watch big soccer games with my friends who play soccer, and always root for the underdog in golf. I also root for K-State, where I may very well be headed to (Mizzou will still be #1 though!), since I side with my Grandpa a lot, and I root against kU.
4. Armageddon, baby!
5. Basketball, and I’d like it if we were a 3 seed or lower.
If you watch Rambo backwards, it's Sylvester Stallone healing people with his magic bullet vacuum.
Oh, forgot the best basketball game I went to
was at the Oklahoma game last year. The atmosphere rocked, it was a big win for the team, and I got to see (and taunt) Blake Griffin.

Very Cool
We were offered the choice between K-State and Oklahoma tickets this year and we choose K-State. I was kinda scared to go to the Blake Griffin game. In retrospect, it was a fine choice but HOW FUN would it to have been at that game? By the looks of it on the teevee, it was rocking from the first possession.

I couldn't hear myself think for most of the first half
Every time JYD, Goose, Leo, or Mike Jr. did something awesome the place exploded. The second half was more ugly and less exciting than the first (Oklahoma pretty much looked beat 5 minutes into the second half) but we got the win, and Leo hit a 3 pointer! Oh, and kU got blasted by Texas Tech, so it was a good day.

I should answer myself:
1. I was born in Dallas, Texas and, at a young age, moved to a suburb of Dallas right next to DFW called Coppell (home of current Tiger commit Jared Parham). At the moment, I am in my third year of school and residing in Columbia pretty much year-round.
2. As has been hammered on many times, I have no family connection or geographical tie to Missouri whatsoever. I originally looked at Mizzou because of the J-School, and while the program was a big factor in why I looked at MU, the University really did sell itself. Even if I hadn’t have ended up in journalism, I really can’t think of a place I’d rather be, especially back home in Texas, where none of the universities felt right to me. As it stands though, I’m on pace to graduate BJ ’11.
3. My primary other sports vice is the Dallas Stars, whose move to Texas coincided perfectly with my childhood. I also got to grow up cheering on the incredible Cowboys teams of the early 90s, as well as laugh at the insane Cowboys teams ever since. I still consider myself a ‘Boys fan, although I really do find myself constantly laughing at so much of what they do. I claim light ownership of the Rangers (although I’m pulling for ‘em hard right now), and if I have to claim an NBA team, I claim the Mavericks, but I’ve been laughing at them ever since Devin Harris got traded. At the NCAA level, I’ll generally pull for Texas A&M and Alabama — two easily hatable programs, otherwise — because my brother and father attended those schools, respectively.
4. In football, it’s a tie between MU/NU in ‘07 and the Cotton Bowl, not because they were great games, but because I’d never been apart of anything like those atmospheres, where the entire game just degenerated into a celebration of all things Mizzou. I’ll never forget having a beaming smile on a beautiful day in Dallas on New Year’s Day in 2008 as I sat in front of three men who attended school in the early 1970s who were in tears witnessing the Tigers put the finishing touch on Arkansas.
In basketball, I was in OKC for the Big 12 championship last year, but still the greatest event I was a part of was MU/KU at Mizzou Arena last year. My chair on press row physically shook when Zaire’s shot finally fell.
5. If I was going strictly on the people, I give the title to basketball, as nothing would thrill me more than to see Mike Anderson, J.T. Tiller, Zaire Taylor, and especially Kim English get a championship. Having worked with them last season, they are some of the most sincere, genuine people I’ve ever met in athletics or in life.
However, it’s not a secret that I am truly a football man at heart. No amount of titles in another sport would compensate for what a BCS title would mean to me. Maybe that’s just the Texan in me.
1. I was born in the greatest town in the U.S.A.: Columbia, MO. But right now I reside in Independence, MO.
2. I’ve been a Mizzou fan for my 14 years of existence. My father has raised me well.
3. For some reason I’ve always liked West Virginia. I was so happy when Mizzou was #1 and WV was #2 with a week left.
4. No question, MU-ku 2007.
5. Football. We’ve got two in basketball. Share the love!
Wait
We’ve got two what in basketball? Unless I’m just waking up from a coma, we’ve never even made the final four.
Try not to take me too seriously
I will not talk about bacon
1. Oak Park, IL born and bred, current Columbia, MO resident.
2. Current Student, just happy to be here. Absolutely no family ties whatsoever, unless you count my Godmother enrolling for a single semester back in the 70s.
3. As it has been well documented, I am a fighting irish fanatic. My father attended Notre Dame in the 70s, possibly the best 4 years of sports history there. (Basketball team was good, ending UCLA’s 88 game streak, Football championships in ’73 and ’77) My brother is a recent graduate as well. And because of the damn Iowa State game I will be going to a ND game this year. (Last year I missed at least one game was 1996. Actually my first game was Ga Tech in ’97.) Sidenote: I saw Kansas get blown out in ’99. (The Jayhawks couldnt tackle Arnaz Battle, it was hilarious) It is the one team that I get completely irrational about. My nightmare would be for Missouri to play them. I would not be able to watch it. I dont even like pitting the two together in NCAA. In other sports I recently dropped the pirates (sorry THE BOY) for the White Sox. It just feels right. The Bulls are my favorite pro franchise and I kinda like the Bears. I am trying to get into soccer as well with West Ham being my choice. (In Fifa 09 I had a budget of 1.2 Billion dollars. Then my roommate moved out.)
4. Nebraska in ’07. What a great night. USC lost and ND actually won a game that day. But that all took a backseat to the unbelievable crowd and incredible atmosphere of Faurot that wonderful October night. I dont think it will ever get better than that. I have one of the “Wear Gold” banners so I can always remember that night.
5. Basketball. Its my favorite sport. (My ultimate goal in life is to dunk. Nothing would be better than that. Nothing comes close) Honestly I would rather see ND win a football championship than Missouri. Its not about the tradition or any of that shit, its about how much I love the Irish. (and its only football. well, maybe hockey. but Missouri doesnt have a hockey team.)
1. I’m originally from Carthage, IL. It’s in the middle of nowhere….that’s why you’ve never heard of it. Now I live in Port Orange, FL (Daytona Beach area).
2. I spent 9 years in Columbia. BS (Biology) ’00, MD ’05. I was raised a Tiger fan by my Dad, who went to law school at Mizzou. Partially because of that fact, I chose MU over Illinois (never did like the orange & blue, even though I grew up going to an Illini football game every year).
3. Life-long St. Louis Cardinals fan. Also KC Chiefs and StL Blues. I’ve actually become a NASCAR fan since moving to Daytona Beach…didn’t think that was possible. (Of course I’m a fan of Mizzou’s own Carl Edwards). I have recently developed a soft spot for Tx A&M…my brother (who went to Mizzou) is a grad student there. When I moved to Florida in 2005, I was basically forced to choose between Florida and Florida State….I chose the Gators, but I don’t actually care that much.
4. The 2003 Nebraska football game is high on the list, but so is the 1997 game. I certainly did not like the ending in 1997, but the atmosphere was like nothing I’d ever seen before. It’s also tough to beat the times MU beat kU in basketball during my first 2 years of college (’97, ’98).
5. As much as I love the basketball Tigers, I have to say football for one reason…I live in Florida and football is all that matters here (despite UF’s success in basketball a couple years back). A football championship would mean more among the people I encounter on a daily basis. Actually, either would be fantastic…since I’ve been in Florida, UF has won 2 football AND 2 basketball national championships…and I moved here in 2005. Ugh.
Yikes.
A refrain familiar in my house is, “Wouldn’t it be great to be a Florida fan?”

Uribe:
1. Oak Park, Ill. (same as boom) and Columbia, Mo. Other famous Oak Parkers: Ernest Hemingway, Ludacris, and Dan Castelanetta.
2. Junior at Mizzou. My first connections to the school were formed back in 2002 when Kareem Rush led Mizzou to the Elite 8. From that point on, I was a Mizzou fan—mainly in basketball. It wasn’t until I chose to come here that I started to become a Mizzou football fan.
3. The White Sox—even though my dad is a Cubs fan and grew up two blocks from Wrigely—because I went to a Cubs/Sox game in ‘99 that the Sox won and I realized the Cubs would never win a World Series. Six years later, I was a die-hard Sox fan when they won it all. I’m a Bulls fan because I grew up in Chicago during the Jordan era and a Bears fan because I grew up in Chicago. I only recently got into hockey, but the Blackhawks have rocketed up my favorite teams list in the last two years. I also claim loose allegiances (read: I like these teams, but not enough to be fans of them) of the Mariners and Brewers. I also have soft spots for the Tennessee Titans and Florida Marlins.
4. 2007 Mizzou 36, kU 28. Until I went to Mark Buehrle’s perfect game, that was the best sporting event I’ve ever attended.
5. Basketball, and I didn’t think about that one as much as I expected. I grew up watching college basketball—the CBS March Madness theme has been stuck in my head since about age 8—and never really followed college football until I got to Mizzou. While I love college football now, I can remember watching pretty much every college basketball title game dating back to Arizona/Kentucky in, what was that, ‘97? When Mike Bibby was still on the team and my dad said he wouldn’t have a good NBA career because he was too small. There’s nothing like the NCAA Tournament, and I’d do awful, awful things to see Mizzou cutting down the nets at the end of the year.

6. When you grow up, who’s hair do you want your hair to emulate?
Answer: this beautiful man I love in a strictly platonic sense

1. I was born and raised in Cedar Hill, Texas (awesome place), but I’m at Mizzou for school now. Dezmon Briscoe is our most famous alumnus for now…. Wish he wasn’t a freaking Jayhawk.
2. I am currently a sophomore in the J-school, hoping to be a sports journalist when I get out of here. Started following the Tigers a bit in my junior year of high school when I was thinking about coming here and then I really followed the ’07 football season which got me hooked.
3. I am a Rangers and Stars fan because they are located in Dallas, but I picked up being a Steelers fan in 2003 (they went 6-10 that year) when I wanted someone other than the Cowboys to cheer for. I’m also a Lakers fan because my dad was raised in LA and his favorite sport is basketball, so he got me into the Lake Show. As you can see, I am a pretty lucky sports fan right now, being a fan of 2 champions. Let’s see if the Rangers can make it three…. hahaha
4. There hasn’t been THAT many, but I would say the Oklahoma-Mizzou basketball game last year. I didnt get a ticket to the kU game, or else that would most definitely be it. The Oklahoma game was a ridiculous atmosphere and we lead from start to finish against BLAKE GRIFFIN! OMG!
5. I’m a much bigger football fan, so I would have to say football. That basketball run was really, really fun last year, but being the national champion in football would be bragging rights forever. Plus, football is more of a big deal in Texas than anywhere else, so I care about it the most.
"Elvis Andrus has just preformed a MIRACLE!"

Two words
William. Cole.
‘07 state title game was one of the greatest performances by an athlete I’ve ever seen in my life.
1. I am from a small town (village really) in southern Illinois and now reside in Jefferson City, MO, with my wife and two daughters who are 1 month old and three years old respectively.
2. My brother attended Mizzou from ’90 to ’94. I was at the 5th down game and also was able to watch Peeler and Smith on the hardwood during that timeframe. Those experiences made me a fan of a team that seemed to always do more with less.
3. I root for the Cardinals in baseball and find myself liking the underdogs in most other sporting matchups. I also like to see my childhood local college team, the Southern Illinois Salukis doing well in BB from time to time.
4. My memory of those Peeler and Smith basketball teams and the atmospsphere at Hearnes. I would love to make it to one of the better conference football games this year but I don’t think the 3 month old will allow for a family trip to a packed game.
5. Basketball – no question. The BCS, for me, ruins some of the luster in football. I have never been a fan of beauty contests and polls, in my opinion, make the selection process unbalanced. Plus, a basketball championship season would rub KU fans a little.
was here last year, didn't comment much, but loved the content and I'm back again
1. From St. Louis, currently in Boston (hell, as far as my sports allegiances are concerned) attending grad school.
2. 07 grad, A&S school. Though I studied abroad my last year so I technically haven’t been at Mizzou since 06.
3. Cardinals, of course. Lakers, I’m a shameless Kobe supporter. What can I say…he’s that freaking good. Don’t really have a pro NFL team that I root for, other than a detached quasi-interest in the Rams. As far as college, I’d say I’m equally defined by my love for Mizzou and hatred for certain other teams, with Oklahoma (read: Bob Stoops) right at the top.
4. Nebraska football upset, 2003 (my first year at Mizzou). That, and beer friz at reactor field before any home game.
5. A football championship seems like the bigger spectacle, but I’ve always been a basketball fan at heart. I lose it sometimes during football games, but I don’t think anything could compare to insanity I unleashed when that Marquette player stepped over the line on the inbound pass. I was jumping up in down in an airport bar screaming “Over the line. Over the line” before the ref even caught it. I thought homeland security was going to detain me. Clearly, basketball is my obsession and I would want a championship in that foremost.
1. From the NW suburbs of Chicago.
2. I’m a junior at Mizzou right now. Even though I grew up in IL, I’ve been raised a Big 12 fan my whole life, so I always wanted to head out this way for school. Visited Mizzou and found it perfect.
3. Proud Cubs fan. And of course all the other Chicago teams.
4. The 2007 kU football game was pretty damn awesome. Front row seats in the endzone where Reesing got sacked didn’t hurt. The OU bball game last year was the an unbelievable atmosphere as well; that may have actually been better because I didn’t have an overly intoxicated fan next to me trying to feel me up all game.
5. Definitely basketball. The playoff format makes the championship seem so much more legitimate. There is so much controversy regarding the BCS that someone will always be questioning a football championship.
ZouDave SAYS:
1. I am originally from Kansas City, MO, and currently reside in Pleasant Valley, MO, which is about a 15-minute drive from the house I grew up in.
2. My mother is a Mizzou alum (‘68), my sister is a Mizzou alum (’94), I attended Mizzou for a year (we didn’t get along very well in the student/university relationship). My dad, while a SMSU graduate, is a lifelong Mizzou fan and as such so am I.
3. Really, none. I root for whomever is playing against kansas, and anyone playing against Nebraska that isn’t kansas. I don’t hate Texas A&M, I have a soft-spot for Northwestern, Vanderbilt and TCU because of my experiences playing as those teams on various iterations of EA Sports college football games, but for the most part the only team I care about is Mizzou.
4. Why, the best Mizzou football game ever as voted by RockMNation.com! I was in attendance at the 2007 Mizzou vs kansas game, and it was glorious. I was also in attendance for the 2003, 2005 and 2007 victories over Nebraska. I was in attendance for the 1/1/08 Cotton Bowl victory over Arkansas. And I was conceived following the victory over Alabama in September, 1975.
5. Football, and it’s not even freaking close.
For the record, I have attended every win against Nebraska
in my lifetime except for the ’78 game.
I will NOT be at this year’s game, unless we can figure out a way to get it rescheduled for a time when my wife isn’t 39 weeks pregnant. Not saying we’re going to lose, but if we do, I expect a guaranteed ticket to EVERY MU-Nubs game for the rest of my life from the Rock M Crew.

1. Originally from Southeast Missouri. Personally got trucked by Jimmy Jackson on a sweep in 03’. Now reside in Columbia.
2. Student… Med School is coming soon.
3. Florida Gators have captivated me since they repeatedly ate Peyton Manning’s lunch. Tebow is a nice addition.
4. Watching Mizzou beat Nebraska, kansas, and Arkansas in one season is hard to beat, although a 2006 destruction of kansas at Faurot cemented my loyalty to the black and gold before the other victories.
5. God WILL grant Mizzou a national championship in football because it is the only game interesting enough for God to pay attention to.
I should amend part 3...
to include the 2007 Ole Miss game in Oxford as well. Sadly, I had to squelch UribeAuction in The Grove so people wouldn’t think that I was a Yankee too.
1. Originally from San Francisco Bay Area. Moved to New Jersey when I was 7 and Arizona when I was 11. Currently live in Atlanta.
2. Proud graduate of the J-school, Class of 2002. Really loved Columbia and the campus. Made awesome friends there.
3. MLB fan of the Oakland A’s. NFL fan of the 49ers. Root for ASU because of my time in Arizona and because I got my graduate degree there. Sorta root for Georgia Tech just because I don’t like Georgia fans.
4. I’d have to say it was the quadruple overtime game against #18 Iowa State in 2001. My friend and I didn’t have dinner before hand and went crazy looking for food after the second overtime. The only thing still open was one Kettle Corn Stand. The game was absolutely insane with Gilbert throwing up threes from everywhere. Good times
5. I’d have to say football honestly. I love basketball a lot but football really brings me in. Plus I feel like people respect a quality football team more than a quality basketball team for some reason.
hey there
Where are you from originally, and where do you currently reside?
born and raised in joplin, mo. i’ve lived in colorado for about 10 years, currently in centennial
What is your connection to the University of Missouri? Alum? Student? Raised as a fan? Randomly adopted Mizzou? Degenerate gambler who made a killing on the ‘07 Tigers against the spread?
i attended mizzou for most of the 90’s, acquiring a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s in recreation management
For what other teams have you developed a rooting interest and why?
my wife and i are big rockies fans (i still like the cardinals too). she went to ohio st, so we root for them and also my hometown mssu lions.
What is the best Mizzou sporting event you’ve seen in person?
1- vs ku bb in 97
2- vs nub fb in 07
3- vs nub fb in 03
God will grant Mizzou a national championship in either football or basketball and YOU have to decide which. What title are you taking?
football, no doubt
What's Shaking Rock M Nation
1) born, raised, and currently living in Jeff City, MO w/ a 4 year stint in Columbia for good measure
2) I am an Alum of the University of Missouri @ Columbia, majoring in Religious Studies (which I am not using in my life at all) minors in Film Studies, English, & History and one of the founders of the Underground Missouri Beerpong League
3) I root for the Cardinals in baseball, Manchester City in the English Premier League, and in college football for some reason I really like Navy, I’m a sucker for the option (therefore Georgia Tech is growing on me as well)
4) Mizzou upsetting Gonzaga in Columbia beating Turiaf, Morrison, and the rest was awesome. In addition I sold a bottle of Grey Goose Vodka to Quin Snyder a few days later (I worked in the liqour dep. of the Gerbes on Nifong)
5) Basketball the greatness of March Madness cannot be beat, Hopefully Gus Johnson or Kevin Harlen are doing the regionals to make it even sweeter

im baaccckkkk
hey im dan and ive been a lifelong supporter of mizzou athletics. i grew up in fulton, missouri just outside of columbia. Both my parents went to MU but im currently a PE major in my freshman year at the university of central missouri. I usually make it to every home mizzou game but unfortunately i only have plans to attend the nebraska and texas games this year. I’m staying in my uncles cabin at the lake of the ozarks this weekend so ill have to watch the arch rivalry game this afternoon at one of the bars. Good Luck to them. M-I-Z!
Me
1. Grew up in New Mexico. Currently live in California’s Central Valley.
2. I’m an alum, and before that a legacy (my dad, two uncles and an aunt). Also met my now-wife at Mizzou.
3. I’m oddly a huge Seattle Mariners fan, even though I’ve never been to Seattle. Big USA soccer fan. I’m a Cowboys fan in the NFL, but my allegiances are more to my fantasy team than anything these days.
4. I saw Armageddon from the press box two years after I graduated. There are some that come close, but honestly, what’s going to top that? It’s also the last Mizzou event I’ve seen in person :(
5. I’m gonna go with football — I’d love either one, obviously, but I think the coverage of football would do more for the university nationally. Plus, I think that if you win the football title, you’re usually pretty clearly the best (or at least one of the best) team. You can win March Madness in a crapshoot — not that that wouldn’t be awesome too.
Try not to take me too seriously
ROLL CALL!
1. I’m from Overland Park, Kansas. Currently, I’m a Junior at the University of Missouri.
2. I’m a fourth generation Mizzou fan. My great grandfather, grandfather, grandmother, dad, uncle and aunt all went to MU. My mom went to Stephens in Columbia.
3. Since I was raised in KC, my other teams are the Royals and the Chiefs. Who else?
4. I was at the 1997 Flea-Kicker. But since we lost, I’m not going to count it. It would have to say it’s Armageddon at this point but I’ve been to lots of other exciting games. The 2006 KU-MU basketball game where we came back from 10+ down with a minute left and Moody missed the free throws while T-Gardner dropped 40 points, that was hella exciting.
5. Baseball. J/K, I’ll take football. The ‘beakers can take Basketball, it’s a women’s sport.
Roll Call
1. From Springfield, currently reside in Kansas City, MO.
2. Raised as a fan—both parents went to Mizzou, my grandfather was a Geology professor there, multiple aunts and uncles went there, I spent a good chunk of my childhood in Columbia, I went to various camps at Mizzou, blah blah blah. I probably would have gone to school there as well, but I had a scholarship to Wash U that was pretty impossible to pass up. When I was in college, I was still in state, and Wash U was D-3, so I just kept right on rooting for Mizzou (and even convinced my roomie from NYC to adopt Mizzou as his D-1 college team when I took him to the Devin West KU game).
3. Rutgers, because I went to grad school there (although even then I didn’t follow them much until the Schiano era got rolling—but RU 2006 is probably my 3rd favorite football team ever, behind MU 97 and MU 2007). SMS because I grew up in Springfield in the Spoonhour days, and those really were fun teams to watch. Wash U in D-3 stuff. Central Mo in D-2 stuff because I teach there (and because it is pretty easy to root for Kim Anderson).
4. ‘07 MU-KU by a mile. There are others, but they’re not really close. Probably my most unique event witnessed is that, because I was living on the East Coast at the time, I was one of the few Tiger fans to be there in person for Quin’s first game (against Wisconsin at a tourney in Syracuse) and Quin’s first win (against Princeton at the same tourney).
5. Basketball, because it crowns an actual indisputable champion (although I suppose a football champion chosen by God would also be hard to dispute).
roll answer
1. From Manchester England & Toronto Canada, currently living in CoMO
2. Sort of a long story, but I’m doing a grad degree here now, and got married (a month ago!) to another Columbia Grad student who is originally form Pittsburgh
3. Manchester United (you don’t get an option when you are born there, it’s genetic), the Toronto Maple Leafs (!!), and my wife is from the Burgh, so I get to adopt the Steelers and Penguins now (though they’ll always be second to my Leafs). Other than that I’ll flirt with team based on passing geographic prejudices, an element of underdog-iness, and whether they play a fun style (was quite partial to the Phoenix Suns for some time). Main hates: New Jersey Devils, Liverpool, and now I guess ku.
4. In person? Ok getting thumped last year in basketball. It was awesome, I came home hoarse.
5. Oh that God, always trying to wind us up. She knows she’s really gonna give us both, right (ok, I really don’t care which, either would be teh ossum).

Been lurking a while... but here's a good spot for a first post.
1. Born in New Jersey, grew up in Chicago suburbs, moved to Wildwood, MO before high school.
2. Junior at Mizzou.
3. the New York (football) Giants! My dad’s favorite team, I was a fan from the moment I was born. I also like Da Bulls, the Cubbies, and I’m a huge soccer fan, particularly the US MNT.
4. Best game in person… beating ku in football in 07 was great, but nothing matched beating OU last year in basketball- Mizzou Arena was absolutely electric!
5. Basketball, no doubt. There is nothing like college basketball.
I haven't been around here since the end of baseball, but now is a good time to come back
1. I was born in Omaha, NE and now am currently living in Columbia
2. I was born into a family of Missouri fans and alums. Both my parents graduated from Mizzou and so have many others in my family. Now I am a senior at MU majoring in accounting
3. I am a big St. Louis Cardinals fan because that is how my dad raised me. I also cheer for the Chiefs because for awhile they were the only NFL team in Missouri. I also follow the Blues and I cheer for Creighton Bluejay basketball
4. It would have to be 07 vs kansas in football. The game was amazing and that week leading up to the game almost caused me to go crazy
5. I would have to say basketball because there is nothing like the NCAA tournament, but hey I’m not too picky, I’d be happy with either
I hope to comment more on here this season and just say some of the things that I observe during the season
thats why my user name is trueson87
i was born in columbia missouri. raised in auxvasse(for those of you who dont know where that is its 6 miles north of kingdom city off i-70)its about 30 mins away from columbia.lived in norman o.k. as as a toddler from my bedroom window i could see OUs staduim.the reason for my hate for OU is one night the football player of that time got drunk and stole my f!@#ing big wheel bastards. now im still in auxvasse
i was raised a fan thats what we did on saturdays i remmber the big8 just barely but i do.my dads was rasied a mu fan his dad and his dad.
now other sports obessions STL CARDS cause once again was rasied a fan never got into the cheifs or rams. as far as nfl goes i just watch for the players for the skill level.
the best mu game ive seen…………dont remmber the year NU was in town during the years of the smith era the beat us bad like they had so many times before we were in the rv tailgating area after the game the NU band marched right down the middle and played the fightsong from hell. so all of the tailgaters gave the band some rocks to make their own rock n so they dont move ours again.
ok the title i would want one in football if i had to pick. but our university has gonna to the point we dont have to get just one we now can have both.
AlaTiger
1. I was born and raised in St. Louis, and I currently live in Birmingham.
2. I just grew up liking Missouri. I’ll never forget listening to the 1978 NU game on my AM radio. Three of my siblings are Mizzou grads, but I wanted to go to a small liberal arts school.
3. I love the Cardinals. 1982 was awesome. Little did I know then that I’d have to wait 24 years for another championship. I gave up on the NFL after the football Cardinals left town. My Sundays are free. Living in the heart of the SEC, my rooting interest in most other college games is about who I dislike the least. That is typically Auburn, Georgia Tech, and Mississippi State.
4. I don’t get to see many Mizzou games in person, so I’ll go with the victory in Memphis in 1999.
5. Tough call. I would probably have answered this differently before I moved south, but I’ve got to go with football.
The Beef here
Born and raised just outside New York City in Norwalk, CT. Was there until 1995 when I moved to Como for school. Was there for the most part until 2003 and then back again for a couple of years before moving out to St. Charles in 2006. I currently reside in a house for about the last 2-3 days :-)
I am an alum, though not raised a fan. I was raised a Penn State fan due to some family, close friends, and TV contracts. I suppose that answers two questions really. I remain a strong Penn State fan to this day, while certainly keeping an eye on other programs.
I will say NU 2007 is the greatest event, but just not for the game itself. It was a perfect weather day. It was a perfect tailgating day. Friends all around us. It was a perfect post-game tailgate. For the true EVENT, there are few things I can think of which will surpass it.
I take it in football, but not by nearly as much as I would have used to. This past season in basketball narrowed the gap a bit, but football will always have the edge in my head.

As we used to play in the drumline (back when I was in school)...
badabadabadabadabadabada… “we’re still here!”
Where are you from originally, and where do you currently reside?
I went to high school in Salem, Missouri. I live and have resided most of my life in Saint Louis.
What is your connection to the University of Missouri? Alum? Student? Raised as a fan? Randomly adopted Mizzou? Degenerate gambler who made a killing on the ’07 Tigers against the spread?
Alum. Class of December ’02.
For what other teams have you developed a rooting interest and why?
None really. I follow North Carolina basketball (football randomly) since I lived in Charlotte, NC for three years and have a lot of alum friends, but I never really root for another university. If we aren’t talking college, I root for the Cardinals, Blues, Rams and Bobcats (all in their respective leagues). I’ve been a Cardinal fan since the longest (nearly birth).
What is the best Mizzou sporting event you’ve seen in person?
MU/KU basketball/football games (98-present), MU/ILLINI ’07, MU/TT ’07.
God will grant Mizzou a national championship in either football or basketball and YOU have to decide which. What title are you taking?
I would take the basketball title. This is tough, with the emergence of football the last 10 years, but Tiger basketball was my first love. As I get older, and get less time to watch sports, football has grown on me more and more (in fact, I think I love watching it more than college basketball at this point)…
Ok here's my real answer
1. I am from KC originally, and it is where I live today
2. I was raised an MU fan, both my parents are alums
3. For no real reason Toledo. And two of my cousins went to Alabama. Oh and I guess my Great Uncle played O-Line for Auburn. But I don’t root for Auburn really at all.
4. ’07 Border War for sure. One of the best moments of my life
"It's a BLT with a fried crab on it, Whaaaaaaaaa?"

OOPs…I failed already. enter works differently on Vivaelbirdos….
1. I’m from st. .louis, and i still live there.
2. every member of my family (including myself) went to MU.
3. the cardinals cause they are awesome. and the broncos…i started liking them before we had the rams, and haven’t given up the loyalty.
4. too many. maybe the sodd reising incident. i had a bunch of friends to watch the game in my basement. it was pretty cool.
5. ouch…football?

3. as you can tell by the name, i like soccer. huge fan of liverpool, as my mother is from near there (smack dab in between manchester and liverpool, actually). in fact, just returned from my dream trip on which i got to see all of england’s big 4 play in person. on the home front i love the cardinals other various stl teams to a lesser degree.
4. ooo close. my first mizzou sporting event in person was the fantastic 07 nebraska game, but last year’s buzzer beater against kansas probly takes the cake, as standing next to me in the arena were two of my friends from kansas.
5. basketball, barely
capital letters suck.
nycbirdo
1. Where are you from originally, and where do you currently reside?
Born at Boone County Hospital in Columbia, MO, while my parents were in grad school; we lived in University Village, off Providence Road, until they graduated and then moved to St. Louis when I was 1. Lived there until Mizzou, then moved up to New York, which is where you’ll find me now – hence the “nyc”. My sister graduated from Mizzou last year, and my brother is a student now – assuming he graduates with one degree, the five of us will have a combined nine MU degrees.
2. What is your connection to the University of Missouri? Alum? Student? Raised as a fan? Randomly adopted Mizzou? Degenerate gambler who made a killing on the ’07 Tigers against the spread?
Graduated in 2003 with degrees in journalism and political science. Was born a Tiger fan, as you’d guess from my first answer.
3. For what other teams have you developed a rooting interest and why?
Again, wouldn’t say “developed,” but I was basically born a Cardinal fan – hence the “birdo.” I’m an unabashed Team USA homer in a variety of sports, particularly soccer. I like Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor, Tiger Woods, and Andy Roddick. And because I wanted to be a fan of one New York sports team but couldn’t bring myself to support any of the mainstream ones, I consider myself a fan of the New York Red Bulls.
4. What is the best Mizzou sporting event you’ve seen in person?
Hm. Maybe the 2007 Cotton Bowl. Or the home basketball wins over KU while I was a student.
5. God will grant Mizzou a national championship in either football or basketball and YOU have to decide which. What title are you taking?
Football. This past spring made it a closer question than it might have been before. But much more than college basketball, college football remains an old-boys’ club – and I don’t like old-boys’ clubs.
It's been a while...
But I too shall crawl from the woodwork now.
1. Born and raised in Kansas City, MO. Fortunately, my first T-Shirt purchase that I can recall was a green T that said “I r a collig student at kU”… and I’ve never looked back. Currently residing in CoMo, scavenging tickets that anyone happens to drop on the ground.
2. Growing up in KC, you pick one or the other. I chose MU. Fortunately. I have never been able to suffer the company of a beaker. No official ties to the University at this time, although I may go back to school eventually to leave a legacy other than flunking out with a major in Beer and Vodka Studies. I do like to point out that I came to the wonderful frustration of being an MU fan of my own volition.
3. In order of strength of affinity: KC Chiefs! I suffered through the early ‘80s… and I take with me the knowledge that it can always be worse. Kansas City Wizards. In most instances, I suppose my fandom is driven by geography… but not always. US Men’s National Team — no explanation needed. Newcastle United FC — Mostly because (I’m not ashamed to admit!) they were, at the time, sponsored by Newcastle Brown Ale, which was my first favorite beer. Good enough for me. Heart of Midlothian FC… because it was the last Scottish club of my favorite Wizard of all time, Mo Johnston. New Zealand All-Blacks (Rugby) — The warrior chant/dance before every match was enough to capture my imagination. And Tana Umaga. That’s a name.
4. MU/kU Basketball Feb. 9, 2009. Not least for the emergence of Mr. Coffee, it was a fantastic game, the atmosphere was phenomenal, and it was everything I’d dreamed it would be in 33 years of wanting that ticket. I look forward to an equal experience when I go to my first MU football game, which may be against the mighty Furman Paladins.
5. It’s got to be basketball. Either would be fantastic… both preferable… but one or the other, I’m more emotionally vested over a longer period of time in Tiger Basketball. . . and it would stick in beaker craws FOREVER. That would be the tastiest part.

Sorry I missed this, but here goes.
1. Born in Sedalia, but lived most of my childhood in the tiny hamlet of Louisburg, kS (otherwise known as the LBC). Was the only Mizzou fan in the entire school and that galvanized my fandom at a young age.
2. I graduated from Central Missouri State (got a schollie and couldn’t pass up the free money) and went to grad school for a year at Mizzou but I have not yet completed my degree (nor will I probably). So does that make me an alum or not? Somebody smarter than me figure that out please.
Regardless, I’ve been a fervent Tiger fan from the time I can remember. My first real memory of Mizzou was watching the Tigers lose to Iowa in Stipo’s junior year I believe (might have been his senior year). I really fell in love with Mizzou in 1987 when Lee Coward killed the hawks twice and then we pee’d on ourselves against Xavier in the tourney. From then on, it’s been on.
3. I love the Royals and Chiefs and whoever is playing kU, but I’m a Mizzou fan No. 1 … by far. I like Ball State, but that’s just because of my old boss (and they are of no threat to Mizzou). I literally root for all the Big 12 to lose every game — and certain out of conference rivals as well like Iowa, Illinois, Arkansas, etc — because I don’t want another team’s success to affect Mizzou’s recruiting. I’m a hater I know. But I don’t really see how another team being good helps Mizzou in any way.
4. No contest here. It was the Arrowhead Armageddon. So much on the line. But it was one of the five best nights of my life.
5. Football. While I love basketball, I’d love to be able to shove a football national title into kU’s face. I’ve had to hear so many “how many Final Fours you been to?” over the years that I’d love to ram that down their collective throats. (If you haven’t figured out, I HATE kansas).

Gummy arriving late to the party
1. I hail from Laffy Saffy headquarters in Bloomington, Ill., and have spent 12 of the last 16 years of my life (including the last seven) in TigerTown.
2. I came to Mizzou in the fall of 1993 for the J-School, and worked as a student in what was then called Sports Information. I was on the sidelines for my first sporting event as a Tiger: A 31-3 win over Illinois. After the game, Tina Thomas (who is now Bobby Bowden’s SID) and Vahe Gregorian invited me to join them for dinner. That started me on a career path that’s kept me in college sports ever since. Two years later, The Beef graced the second floor of Wolpers with his presence, and none of us have been the same.
3. My parents both grew up in the Chicago suburbs, so it’s Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks (once I discovered the beauty of hockey about 10 years ago). And I’ve had a soft spot for Northwestern ever since my sister went there (a Medill grad, she and I have always had a healthy debate). The Alamo Bowl was about the best outcome possible for me: We got the win, and Northwestern showed they are in for the long haul as long as Fitz is around. It was also particularly enjoyable for the trash-texting my sister was giving me the entire first half. I distinctly remember sending a three-word reply with about a minute left in the half: “THAT. JUST. HAPPENED!”
4. I’ve had the fortune of working with nearly every sport at Mizzou, and there have been numerous special moments that wouldn’t rank anywhere near others’ top-fives. I was in Auburn Hills when Brian Smith and the wrestling team accepted Mizzou’s first NCAA team trophy in over 40 years. My first road trip with the football team was about to end in a loss. Then Ricky Ross somehow came down with a bomb from Corby in the final minute of regulation in Stillwater. The next month was the kicked ball. It was simply the most dramatic setting I had ever experienced in my young life. I was working official stats for ABC that night. Normally, a TV production truck is a beehive of activity; I don’t recall hearing anything but stunned silence over the headsets the final five minutes of that game. But Armageddon takes the cake. Starting the day off by watching Corso pull Truman’s head out of the bag from backstage, and finishing it in the locker room — a fogged-up lens on my video camera — with Bill Cocos holding the Big 12 North trophy in the lap of his wheelchair… unforgettable.
5. I’m spent. I’ll have to go with basketball.

Originally, I am from New York City. Currently, I reside in Henderson, NV (aka Hendertucky aka Southeast Las Vegas).
2. What is your connection to the University of Missouri? Alum? Student? Raised as a fan? Randomly adopted Mizzou? Degenerate gambler who made a killing on the ’07 Tigers against the spread?
I am a proud alum (with the tattoo to prove it) from the class of 2000. I was one of those students who came to Mizzou with dreams of being a journalist. I then saw the light and graduated with my BA in Communication.
Well, I was raised to love the sports teams in New York (although I am a Yankees/Giants/Knicks fan by default). I am a firm practicer of sports bigamy.
Due to the wife, I have been sucked into rooting for Ohio State football, and having worked for Penn State (and having almost hit JoePa with my car one day), I root for the Nittany Lions as well.
Unless they play Mizzou. Then screw ’em.
4. What is the best Mizzou sporting event you’ve seen in person?Tough call. I have so many good memories (even if we didn’t win all of them). I think I have to go with the “Flea-Kicker” against nebraska. 5. God will grant Mizzou a national championship in either football or basketball and YOU have to decide which. What title are you taking? I’ll let God grant us the basketball title.
I’ll make a deal with the Devil for the football title.

No BFD, just really late
1. Where are you from originally, and where do you currently reside?
Raised in St Louis. (People from KC may care to note that I am from St Louis county and not the city, however.) Currently reside in Austin, TX.
2. What is your connection to the University of Missouri? Alum? Student? Raised as a fan? Randomly adopted Mizzou? Degenerate gambler who made a killing on the ’07 Tigers against the spread?
BS ChE 2004, previously had developed fandom during high school
3. For what other teams have you developed a rooting interest and why?
I am mostly a college sports guy, LSU football having been my first love. I dig Texas football, and am a diehard Longhorn baseball guy, as I am in school here. I have a soft spot for Oregon football, because I’d love to live there one day. I also like whichever of the Florida big three football squads sucks the most in any current season. I would be remiss if I failed to mention that I (claim to) like VfB Stuttgart soccer.
4. What is the best Mizzou sporting event you’ve seen in person?
I guess Nebraska ’03.
5. God will grant Mizzou a national championship in either football or basketball and YOU have to decide which. What title are you taking?
Football. This, for me, is not even close.
Lurking for the year thus far...
might as well fill this out:
1. Where are you from originally, and where do you currently reside?
St Louis County (Chesterfield), now Cottleville, MO (40 mins outside StL)
2. What is your connection to the University of Missouri? Alum? Student? Raised as a fan? Randomly adopted Mizzou? Degenerate gambler who made a killing on the ’07 Tigers against the spread?
Alum – 97 – 2000
3. For what other teams have you developed a rooting interest and why? –
There are other games going on besides the Tigers? Not really, there are a few teams I dislike (right now The Ohio State of Overrated Football). Was a ND fan growing up. No longer.
4. What is the best Mizzou sporting event you’ve seen in person?
Football: Either the insight.com bowl in SD in 98 or the 98 KU game at home where we tore down the goal posts (still have my chunk around somewhere).
5. God will grant Mizzou a national championship in either football or basketball and YOU have to decide which. What title are you taking?
Football. Although I’d love to see both.
