Missouri Wrestling: #17 Tigers take on Northwestern (live'ish)
Am going to try to pull some double duty here while the basketball game is going on. Action is underway with the Tigers taking on the Wildcats of Northwestern. It appears action started at 133, with Nathan McCormick losing an 8-5 decision to Eric Meltzer. At 141, #20 Todd Schavrien shut out his opponent 5-0 to tie up the action at 3-3. At 149, the lone ranked wrestler for Northwestern was leading Brandon Wiest and pinned him to give NW a 9-3 lead. #17 Patrick Wright was next at 157, and in a somewhat back and forth affair, Wright pulled out the big win, a 8-4 win. Live stuff starting at 165.

before the 165 action
Final score of the 157 match ended up being 9-4…at least I think since the scoring kept changing. Tigers are down 9-6

1st period of 165
Marable vs. Kellogg
Two quick takesdowns for Marable, who if he can dominate like that early, needs to just crush this guy and get some bonus points back after the pin at 149

3rd period at 165
seems the action was a bit choked up from 157, so it is flying now
Marable gives up an escape, then is taken down, but reverses to get it back to 7-4. He then commits a penalty, so Kellogg shortens the lead to 7-5. That is where it ends. Tigers tie it up at 9-9

Period 3 of 174
henderson with the escape to make it 9-3, getting close to a major decision, another takedown and another escape makes it 11-4, Henderson gets another and the escape makes it 13-5 major decision…very solid outing for Henderson as Mizzou is now up 13-9

Askren vs. Aaron Jones at 184 - 1st period
Askren with the takedown to start out 2-0, appears to be maintaining control over the 5-6 junior from Northwestern. He completes the period likely wracking up some riding time
Askren up 2-0

2nd period - 184
Askren has the choice and will start on bottom…gets the reversal to make it 4-0 and continue the riding time…rolls him for the near fall 3 to make it 7-0….period ends
Askren up 7-0

3rd period
Askren starts on top and is cautioned…Jones gets on the scoreboard with an escape to make it 7-1 (likely 8-1 with riding time)…another takedown for Askren makes it 9-1 and a major decision seems likely…seems riding time was not there, but Askren wins 9-1. Major decision makes it 17-9 Mizzou

197 - Brent Haynes vs John Schoen
A win here can pretty much ice it for the Tigers
Action seems slow as Haynes is warned for stalling…Schoen gets a takedown and that’s the action
2-0 Schoen

2nd period - 197
Schoen defers the choice, Haynes takes bottom
Haynes stalling again, giving Schoen another point. Haynes would appear to be off his game, or I managed to apply the RMN jinx to him. That’s the period
3-0 Schoen

3rd period - 197
Schoen choose neutral and Haynes takes him down…great start to the period as I am not sure why Schoen did not choose bottom…haynes will either need to turn him or start trading takedowns for escapes since I believe he is down the riding time point…haynes stalling again..this time on top I guess, so it is now 4-2 (and likely 5-2)…Schoen now stalling, but can afford to…appears to have ended 4-2 loss, as haynes may have worked off the riding time advantage
Mizzou still up 17-12

the way the scoreboard looks...we may have traded forfeits at the top and bottom
and technically we may have won 23-18

I think this is what has happened
I think the it over…and I think the Tigers have won either 17-12 with two bouts not contested or 23-18 with bookend forfeits.

Final Score was 23-17 Tigers...
matching forfeits, and evidently the Wildcats lost a team point for unsportsmanlike conduct at the 197 match to explain the final score. The Tigers will face the LOSER of Cornell and Ohio State, who are wrestling now. That match will be at 5pm central. Bad news is, the Tigers are going to wrestle a VERY stout club either way. Good news is…we will be a little more rested.
