Missouri Wrestling: #17 Tigers take on #8 Cornell

So a great Ohio State team thumped a very good Cornell squad, so they are Mizzou's prize for beating Northwestern.  Their lineup is littered with seeded wrestlers, and they are very strong at the lighter weights where they will likely win this.  Action is underway, as the Tigers took another forfeit at 125.  Nathan McCormick lost a major decision to #12 Mike Grey, which was followed by Todd Schavrien losing a 6-1 decision to #6 Kyle Dake.  We pick up the action at 149, as Cody Farinella is taking on Hicks Manson...which is just a solid name

165 - Marable vs. #12 Kerber

Should be a solid match and will be interesting to see how Marable fairs here after the solid start against NW where he did have to hold on

2nd period

Marable will start on the bottom

locked hands on Kerber gives Marable a penalty point for 7-2 lead…Marable escapes for the 8-2 lead…and that is all the action of the period

Marable up 8-2

3rd period

Kerber will start on the bottom needing a lot of points

Kerber does get the escape to make it 8-3…would love to see Marable get aggressive and see about a major decision…Marable gets the takedown for 10-3…riding time is likely for Marable right now, so it might be 11-3…another penalty point makes it 11-3 and Marable does get the riding time for the 12-3 win and a solid major decision.

174 - Dorian Henderson vs. #1 Mack Lewnes

Lewnes had been at 165 and he and Marable had some great wars with him the past couple of years.

1st period

Lewnes in on the takedown early for the 2-0 lead…Lewnes seems to be riding hard here, as there has been no other scoring on the boards…Lewnes gets a roll and NF3 for a 5-0 lead. Henderson picks up a caution…ends the period 5-0

3rd period

Henderson starts on the bottom and gets on the board with an escape to make it 8-1…henderson hit for stalling…score is really 9-1, so it is at least a major decision for Lewnes right now…another takedown and almost 3 minutes of riding time gives Lewnes a 11-1 win

HWY - Bradley vs. Taylor Moore

Interesting to me we brought two guys at 149 and two HWY’s…but no one (possibly) at 125?

Anyway, Moore is a backup here for Cornell

Bradley with the takedown, but Moore earns the escape and Dom is up 2-1…another takedown for Bradley makes it 4-1…that ends the period

Bradley up 4-1

2nd period

Bradley starts on the bottom and earns the escape point for the 5-1lead…another takedown and Bradley is in control at 7-1…Moore gets back on the board with another escape to make it 7-2…Moore gets warned for stalling…Bradley ends the period on another takedown and makes it 9-2

3rd period

Moore starts on the bottom and gets the escape to make it 9-3…Bradley takes him right back down and is up 11-3 and you presume he has riding time as well…Moore gets his 4th escape to make it 11-4…Moore stalls again to give Bradley another point and the riding time finishes a 13-4 major decision.

Final score is Cornell 23 Mizzou 15

I am not familiar enough with the format of the Duals..

I THINK Mizzou is done, but I suppose I could see them wrestling someone else tomorrow in just matches for matches sake. Maybe Buffalo or something. Will have to see. In the end, with no one to wrestle at 125, the Tigers did about what you would expect. Some good efforts and Mizzou will still have a number of guys going to the NCAA’s when that time comes, and will likely have a few of them AA still. Lots of youth, and they have good talent in line to replace at least two of the three seniors they lose next year, when the team will still be pretty young.
