So Arkansas wasn't even a possibility for the Cotton?
That’s confusing.

yeah, it seems a little early for this announcement
figured they’d wait until after championship week to see if Nebraska was in play, could see Nebraska vs. LSU/Arkansas being a great draw.

Its weird that their twitter has it
and their website doesnt yet…

I think the working assumption from the Cotton Bowl
is that fans aren’t going to come back to the same stadium in 30(ish) days to see their team that just lost there play there again.
by jschooltiger on Nov 30, 2010 5:05 PM CST up reply actions
that makes sense
though I almost expected Nebraska to be an exception that rule, considering their fan base and it being the last year the Cotton Bowl have a shot at them.

its all because those geniuses at Texags.com hacked their poll and brought the site down yesterday.
clearly thats what we have to do to get good bowl bids.
You don't have to come and confess, we lookin' for you, we gon' find you, we gon' find you. So you can run and tell that, Homeboy.
seriously?
I saw it went down at some point, and Mizzou had made a significant push to even the poll.
If that’s true, I’m also going to assume an A&M booster hacked the Cotton Bowl’s twitter account as well.

cool.
good to see a three loss team get the nod over two two loss teams that both beat them. as well as a three loss team that actually won its division.

now here is my thought…
bowl complaints by fans must end. for once we the fans can determine the future of tiger bowl games. we must go to what ever bowl they get picked by and sell it out. destination does not matter.
put your money where your mouth is my fellow mizzou fans.
do you not see the potential and the perfect storm brewing in our team?
11-1 next year or better… we could pick our own bowl, we run the table an just beat the whole mother eFFin conference.
no championship game, no more wasting our money on 4 home game tickets for blood donor schools,
we eFFng play everyone from here on out. whoop ass and don’t look back. the sky is not even the limit.
the boyz from Mizzou say it the best… "ALL IN! SELL OUT! ~ ALL IN! SELL OUT! ~ ALL IN! SELL OUT!"

People complain about the biases in the BCS rankings
I don’t see why it should be any different for other bowls. People want to see teams play in better games because of merit, not program prestige or fan attendance or any other outside the lines metric. I think it’s a perfectly legitimate complaint, especially from a fan base that has seen it happen 4 consecutive years now. Not that I truly blame the Bowls themselves, they’re acting in their own interests to keep themselves afloat. But I think the time has come for some reform, where there’s an objective process to bowl selection. And if some Bowls aren’t able to be solvent with that process, then we shouldn’t have them. People complain about too many bowls to begin with, right? And making them more rare just encourages attendance in those that do stick around.

So you're saying
WE don’t get to play in a pretend National Championship game and pretend to be National Champs?
Well, frankly I am disappoint.

I wish it wasn't the case, but I can't argue with the decision
I’d like to complain as well, but this isn’t like the previous years, where Mizzou has been screwed out of a bowl without clear justification. Mizzou would make a good choice for the Cotton Bowl in most years, but I can certainly understand why A&M is the better fit.
The only thing that really matters for the bowls is the bottom line, and from that perspective, there just isn’t a good reason for the Cotton Bowl to select Mizzou over Texas A&M. A&M will surely sell more tickets (shorter travel distance, more dependable and rabid fanbase, and a more traditional matchup). I’m confident that the Tigers are a better team than the Aggies, but the gap between the two teams isn’t so vast that the Cotton Bowl can afford to overlook the financial advantages that come from inviting the Aggies.

I can't fault them either
It’s not like FBS college football is about merit.
That’s for AA and D-II and the others that have a playoff.
Dallas is the one losing out
Missouri would have sold out this game, I have no doubt about that. A&M fans are going to drive to this game and then drive home. Missouri fans would have come down for the weekend stayed in hotels and went out to bars and restaurants.
Dallas lost out...
… when the Cotton Bowl moved to Arlington.

Utter bullshit
One more loss, lost in the head to head matchup
What's being lost a bit in this discussion
is that San Diego is a freaking awesome city.
Also, the Big 12 bowl contracts are structured in such a way that bowls give the conference bigger payouts for the privilege to select teams, rather than having them automatically slotted. So in a lot of ways that’s good for Mizzou.
I actually know one of our o-linemen and he has no interest in visiting Texas again. So take that for what it’s worth.

agreed, there's tons to do in San Diego
and I could actually see that being a better travel destination for fans – don’t underestimate the allure of the west coast. Plus, it’s something different than Texas, and the variety in destinations might motivate fans to make the trip.

There is one HUGE problem with San Diego...
…distance.
The complaints that the Mizzou fanbase doesn’t travel well will only escalate with the Holiday Bowl. Someone with a modest amount of disposable income could justify tickets to the Cotton or Insight Bowl and drive. With San Diego you now are pretty much forced into buying plane tickets
The Cotton Bowl would have been a stretch for me financially right now but potentially doable. San Diego? Not a chance.
I can understand the economic realities here and can’t aruge with them (much) but the part of me that is a fan is rather hot that we have been snubbed once again.
I've hauled ass
and made it from Columbia to San Diego in 29 hours, if you take out the 4 hours I spent in Vegas and the overnight I spent in Denver. It’s a bitch of a drive, whether you take I-70 to the I-15 or if you take I-35 to I-40 to the I-15. Those are the only two routes I would suggest and in December, the first route is subject to the freeway even being open in Colorado

I-44 to I-40 to I-8
Is the quickest route by about 2 hours.
Annoying You Since 1986
This is true
I could maybe get to Texas, but as much as I would love and prefer a trip to San Diego, it’s not happening next month.

Time of year
I’m in sales as I’m sure many other people are, I can’t take off time at the end of the year, just can’t do it. I would love to go to San Diego but the date prevents me from doing so.
I'm sorry, but...
…if you didn’t see this coming, you’re a little naive. I still love you, though.

Especially because I definitively stated in 214 times in the live thread last weekend.
Annoying You Since 1986
I really didn't expect Mizzou to get the Cotton Bowl.
Yet I tend to see this as sealing the deal on the Holiday Bowl. I was, and still am, happy with the thought of the Insight Bowl (for reasons mentioned elsewhere) but with aTm getting the Cotton Bowl I am already prepared to see Mizzou have to settle for the Holiday Bowl, which when taken with our recent bowl history is a snub since it could have been someone else’s turn to take the hit.
Insight bowl!
Mizzousundevil wants a sweet Christmas present, IE tickets to a bowl game in his own backyard.
So why can't bowls go by actual standings?
Instead of just picking slots? Say Mizzou finishes 3rd, I want Mizzou to go to the bowl with the 3rd pick. Instead of us finishing third, but have to go up against a football-crazed alumni base of like, 300 billion, and instead go the the Beef O’ Brady Pinstripe Bowl.Com.
Back on the scene, crispy and clean.
see above
the bowls pay the Big 12 more money to be able to select themselves instead of having slotting.

Guys, it's bowl season...
How dare you suggest I read previous comments, or do some research, instead of blindly complaining on the internet? Shame on you.
Back on the scene, crispy and clean.
Because there would be much lower payouts.
When the insight bowl gurantees a team (I dont know what they do just guessing) 2 million, they want to know that they can pick a team that will make them the most money. The big 12 could force these schools to take the next best team, but they will give less money to the schools because they have to worry about the fact that a team might only sell half (like Missouri) of their tickets and then they might lose money .
Annoying You Since 1986
to be precise
the bowl guarantees the money to the conference, which distributes it among schools.

happy early Passover everybody
apparently this year it will be a 6 day event.
The only measure of true success in the NFL is the Vince Lombardi trophy. Anything less is a rationalization.
San Diego bound
I hope we get the Holiday Bowl…great city, great albeit small in number Mizzou fan base, better than Texas and Arizona and nice weather. Come on you pasty fans carpool and meet me and the fam at the tailgate with all the other fabulous Tiger faithful.
I'd much rather have the insight.
But mainly because I’m much more interested to play Iowa or MIchigan than Washington.

I would think if we get the holiday quite a few from my family would be going.
You don't have to come and confess, we lookin' for you, we gon' find you, we gon' find you. So you can run and tell that, Homeboy.
I completely understand the move by the Cotton Bowl.
Missouri obviously would never be able to sell out a bowl game in Dallas, a city with a tiny Mizzou alumni base and a town that most Mizzou fans would have a hard time getting to. Also, A&M has proven that they are better than Mizzou, as proven in the head-to-head matchup where their incredible “Wrecking Crew” defense held us to just 30 points, and even without their wide receiver throwing the ball they managed to score a single touchdown in the fourth quarter. Perhaps if MU fans traveled well enough to fill up Kansas’s side of Arrowhead Stadium, this would all be averted.
/sarcasm
In reality, the Insight or Holiday doesn’t sound that bad. I’d love to play some crappy team like Iowa, Penn State, or Michigan in the Insight. It would be a good matchup for television and we would kick their ass by four touchdowns and get credit for beating a good team. I’d also like to play in San Diego, but that opponent probably wouldn’t be that good.
The only thing that really sucks is the Holiday matchup
Sure, there are five teams in the Big 12 that deserve a real good bowl. But there is one team of those five that should OBVIOUSLY be slotted fifth (worst record, lost h2h to half the other four), and that team is going to the best non-bcs bowl there is. And the bitch of it all is that, for the fourth year in a row, Mizzou will (likely) get the worst end of the stick possible.
I get that the bowls can do whatever the hell they want. The conference sold those rights away a long time ago. But sweet merciful crap it gets old to see our Tigers not get rewarded to the fullest extent in early December. No 10 win team deserves the dogcrap matchup that awaits them in the Holiday bowl, but you can bet your last nickel that given the three 10 win teams that will be out there it will be ours that gets that honor.
Maybe the Orange Bowl will get crazy again (gotta do something with one half of your game being taken up by the ACC champ) and pick a lower ranked team (Missouri over Arky).
